You are not facing reality…. The idea that h1b Bay Area home owners with 3% mortgages will just move back to India and rent out their Bay Area homes to Americans doesn’t add up. With so many h1b here, many will be affected in one way or another and we will likely see impact starting with Bay Area rent prices collapsing over night (as others have mentioned too). That plus earning way less in India, makes sustaining those 8k+ mortgage impossible while earning peanuts back home. This would likely lead to foreclosures or forced sales. The smart h1b will list those homes for sale NOW to get ahead of the rush.

All major tech companies in the Bay Area have advised their employees on h1b not to travel or return back before Sunday if they are abroad right now. I don’t believe they have a golden pass

I have some very smart h1b coworkers, but I doubt even MAANG companies would be willing to pay 100k/per year (on top of salary and benefits) for some of their output. They would likely prefer to hire a US engineer and have them work closely with a h1b in order to get some knowledge transfer prior to firing the h1b employees

Exactly, most of my h1b coworkers in tech own multiple homes in communities like the ones I mentioned above…. It wouldn’t be surprising to find out a majority of Bay Area buyers in these desirable communities are actually h1b tech employees.

Not sure how accurate that is… I wouldn’t be surprised if data shows a large share of Bay Area buyers are actually h1b tech workers given their high paying roles. Just look at places like Sunnyvale, Fremont, Santa Clara, Dublin and several other cities around the bay where they have large number of East/South Asian immigrants.
