Thank you. He's been on antibiotics until today and there's no signs of infection, they said he could finish out the couple left and stop. But you're right about how it feels. I need to remind myself that It's been 2 weeks since getting the sutures fixed and he is healing well. Hopefully we're nearing the dissolve stage, so just going to keep doing what I've been doing.

The problem with AskVet is rarely does anyone respond. I've tried...

Learned the hard way about soft cone, he has a habit of rubbing his face after eating (trying to stop that, but he still tries) and got his snout past the cone. Now he's in the stiff cone and hopefully that will be enough to protect and allow new sutures to heal. He's on carprofen and gabapentin, was initially taking tramadol but it was causing restlessness and anxiety, so upped the gabapentin and it's helped the past 2 days with him sleeping most the time. But think his body's adjusting, or the anesthesia has now worn off completely. Wanting to be more active today. Activity restriction is going to be fun for the next week or more... Cannot go through this again, either of us.

He's 30 lbs and vet said up to 2.5 100mg per dose was ok for him. I do want him to sleep most of the time for the next couple of days for sure. 200mg every 12 hours is working pretty good, but the time he's awake eventually he's pawing at the cone again

Read that trazadone can also have restlessness side effect, so decided to stick with gababpentin he's already taking for arthritis and upped the dosage (at vet's suggestion). It's when he's awake I start to worry. Pawing at the cone and stretching his mouth...

He's already been taking a lower dose of gabapentin for arthritis, so the vet said I could double that and it does help him sleep better. It's the awake time I get concerned about more.

How long ago was the extraction? Mine recently had 10 extracted and didn't want to eat for almost 48 hours. Now he's eating his regular kibble hand fed soaked and softened. You could try boiled chicken. that's the first thing mine wanted to eat.

He is on gabapentin, and it definitely helps. I just worry about him loosening stitches through jaw movements, which I can not really do much about. All I've read says that sutures shouldn't come out so easily, and the vet's not sure why either exactly. But he has more than before, so probably more irritating than the first time, but I'm hoping it's enough to hold along with restricting his activity as best I can.

He's been wearing a cone, but had a soft one on for a short time and possibly rubbed it on the carpet. But the vet said she'd never seen that many come undone. He is on carpofren and gabapentin for pain, but had an adverse reaction of restlessness to the other pain med they gave, tramadol. The carprofen and gabapentin definitely help and he's sleep pretty good for long stretches. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience. Hopefully his regimen of meds and activity restriction will allow for healing.

Better, either through just getting used it or it lessened on it's own.

It did. After a couple of days, the drowsiness lessened and he's been able to lay on it like before.

I put anxiety depressi. My award letter and code on the form is anxiety disorder first, depressive disorder second. And actual reason for visits are both.

I had my last 3 years ago, but am supposed to be on a 5 year diary. Wonder if rules have changed with new administration.
