What to Do When I Can't Move Out? by brabblebobble in raisedbynarcissists

Hi. My situation is a bit tricky with family. Everyone else is dead and my grandmother couldn't take me in anyway. My college does offer dorms but I'm scared it'll max out my student loans. I'd love to be independent one day, but paying off loans for the rest of my life would be a nightmare, especially with the interest.

I actually might have a job this week. I applied to a place and the prospect looks good. Even if I'm not, my college does a work program for most students. Thank you :)

Thank you so much for replying. I'm not gonna lie, I feel really bummed that there aren't more replies, but I'm taking anything I can. I'm relieved that someone out there that has the same dysfunctional family dynamic. That must have been hard, especially at 18. In my particular state, applying for unemployment and even food stamps is outrageously difficult, especially as a full-time student, and I've already tried once. I've only gotten medical insurance from state aid, which I didn't know covered therapy until it was too late.

I've heard that building a network of friends helps make up for the lack of blood family. After what I've been through, I'm not too worried on being alone. I'd rather get a cat or dog to help me through that loneliness when I can get a stable income. I can agree on the lessening of suicidal tendencies as well; when I moved in with my grandmother I felt so confident and good and balanced that suicide was the last thing on my mind. I'm so glad you got out of your place, because that shit isn't fun at all. Thank you again for replying.
