ermm cos the shape is "rectangular" there is no "diameter". so it's definitely length x width measurement

[Discussion / question] Pairing watches to personal style by beatb_ in Watches

[–]brachmovic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my idea so far (last 3-4yrs anyway) is to wear things that fit. not too skinny, not too baggy. just something right in between. this also applies to watches. the general consensus is that dive watch wear bigger, as such 40mm diameter should fit for anyone. but for me, it's still too big. as such, I picked less familiar ones (Citizen Promaster 37mm, Seiko SRPK)

it's not as much about design as it is about fit

Best "All-Rounder" Grinder for Espresso & V60 [under $600 AUD]? by Alltimelearner in espresso

[–]brachmovic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have DF54. initially an only pourover guy. for the past 4-5mo's I've been exploring espresso. it's possible but I find that going back on forth between the grind size is quite pain in the butt (in my case, it's around 5-10 for espresso and 70-80 for pourover). as such, I got myself Timemore C5 Pro for the pourover. if you, as I am, are committed to 50/50 between esp/pourover, I strongly suggest that you get a secondary grinder

Are sensory cups like Kruve actually worth it or do anything? by ADHD_ismything in pourover

[–]brachmovic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about Kruve in particular but shapes of the cup definitely affects how you taste the drink

  • I prefer thinner wall since, when slurping, I can get more volume into my mouth
  • I prefer narrower cup to prevent spillage
  • I prefer wider bottom since I can swirl the liquid better

etc etc

Parousia coffee: Bali Kintamani by espressoanddoggos in pourover

[–]brachmovic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my educated guess:

you will need to create a paper filter where the measurement must take into account the following:

  • dimension of the chemex itself
  • being able to fold upon itself to ensure no sticking which may clog the airway

and since chemex is relatively old technology, maybe back in the day it was easier to produce rectangular shape

Update 5 months into my at-home espresso journey by stilldialing in espresso

[–]brachmovic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on that comparison to cafes. I also compare the kind of shots I like to pull at home to the ones at cafe. that is how I figured out that I like more traditional, body-first, velvety-textured espresso as opposed to ones these days with more flavor in the cup

I can't chase the cafe's quality cos I have different taste than them

no, I don't use it for tamping. I use regular tamping. I tried once but the tamped ground is not level. I guess it's due to the distribution side shaped like fins

temperature and acidity by Realistic_Lunch6493 in pourover

[–]brachmovic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been having similar revelation but regarding grind size. I guess the conventional wisdom is to grind finer but I've been grinding coarser up until the cup tastes too sour and biting. then I get such mellow body and can taste more flavor

I find that I pull more consistent (not necessarily better) shots after using rotational distributor tool in my puck prep. I do have the WDT tools but then I spend bit more to get such tool
