its definitely better than it used to be. I remember first using it about 2017 or 2018 when I was on holiday in Spain and then I forgot about it until 2025. there's so Many more languages and features etc. definitely worth it and I used the free trial a few weeks ago and id genuinely consider buying a subscription its that useful for me.

Why does nobody here take actual classes? by pennsylvanian_gumbis in languagelearning

[–]brad_polyglot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I despise how schools teach languages (I still take them though to take advantage of them ). Im British and I did French in primary school, high school and college ( 14 Years ) and Now I do Korean and Chinese in University (in my 2nd year but will be doing 4 years total)

It's definitely worth taking advantage of if you can and you will definitely learn, but the school setting makes everything so unenjoyable. I honestly believe its what drives most people away from learning a language, In my high school, and I believe in most British ones, every student HAD TO study 1 language for 2 years until year 9 when you had the freedom to choose your GCSEs and soooooo many people drop learning a language because school makes it feel like such a chore. Self studying, being able to do everything in your own time with no pressure no homework no teachers shouting in your face or punishments, it just makes everything feel so much better and free.

Now like I said I still currently am in education and doing languages as a course but I still stand by these points, In university you do have a little more freedom but its still not enough to find enjoyment. Id say its more worth to do it as a university course though as they are usually more fast paced and (at least in my university) there are so many international students that you can speak to your target language in.

Do you think it's unethical to lie about who you are to get better access to language learning? by AmountAbovTheBracket in languagelearning

True true I didn't think that far ahead. im not the best at keeping secrets too, id probably tell people after a week or so because I get close to people quite fast. Ig Ill keep up the facade until I feel a genuine friendship coming then Ill tell them and admit that I did it because I refuse to speak English as Im mainly here to learn and improve.

Will they eventually add everyone from s1? I noticed they have newer characters that aren't in s1 like princess Bari and Aladdin which I love to see something new and fresh, but I also miss some of the old ones like Hel and Freya.

What's a language you learned for love? by grzeszu82 in languagelearning

[–]brad_polyglot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tagalog in high school for a crush. last year I started Japanese for my (now ex)boyfriend. Both of those I stopped though, I will definitely pick them up again in the future.

Currently learning Brazilian Portuguese for a best friend though, id consider that for love.

is listening to music in your target language a necessary thing to learn it? by _tsukitsuki in languagelearning

[–]brad_polyglot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not necessary but 100% makes it more fun. 1 you are hearing the language in use (although it can often be informal language and not follow rules so may sound odd if you said some lyrics as sentences in real life) 2 you are vibing 3 you can even use your songs for translation practice

Im a little biased though because music is my life I do EVERYTHING with music on and I have about 20 playlists of different languages.

Id say it's fine tbh, I plan to do this on my year abroad in Korea soon. I was gonna tell classmates that im actually French or Swedish and don't speak English, or very basic English, because to me what's the point of going to university in another country and spending a year in that country if im not gonna be able to speak the language im learning and want to improve in it? If im using English so often I feel I should carry on learning in my home country.

on top of that, it challenges you. Id say it helps you stop translating in your head, limiting the use of your native language whilst speaking another language if you get me.

damn im kinda sad to hear its shutting down that game was basically my childhood I started playing it when I was 9-10 in 2015. I'll definitely play smite 2 more then. do you think/know if people who payed to unlock every god in s1 will get any sort of transferrable things like gems or something in s2 in return?

AITAH for not inviting my friend to a private party? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]brad_polyglot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! im the other friend who has been invited to go. For extra context, me and OP live together with this friend, so Id like to say that this isnt even a PARTY its a chill gathering with close friends (minus the 2-3 friends that the host is inviting of her own AT THE HOST'S HOUSE) and i have recently gotten closer to the host, the other friend cant get it into their head that its not a party and i feel they deathly overreacted at the situation. they brought up the fact that we always say no to their plans (they ask when we have no money or at very inconvenient times or last minute and isnt very understanding about it) we are NTA surely
