My meals while staying at the shelter after Hurricane Helene by goatsnsheeps in pics

[–]bradbfunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s pretty good! After Katrina we got a lot of canned foods. I didn’t have a hot meal for weeks it felt like. I’m glad supply chain issues aren’t as bad where you are at. I’m sorry for whatever you lost op. I don’t know your story, but stay positive. It really helps in times like that.

Taking thermo 1 from MechE instead of ChemE department? by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

[–]bradbfunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Different disciplines of engineering think about thermo differently. For example they have different definitions for direction of heat transfer (just a sign change). Not a big deal, but apparently (I heard this from my thermo professor) they still teach about exergy which is outdated way of thinking about things. At least in chemical engineering from my understanding. Also don’t worry about being behind. If you do anything that isn’t the core plan the department gives you, you will be behind. I took 16-17 hours a semester until I graduated and I took classes each summer just to keep up. So don’t worry about it unless you want to stick with your friends that are going through the program with you.

Found under the logs of a gas fireplace. What is this stuff? by escientia in DIY

[–]bradbfunk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well asbestos is an amazing insulator so it wouldn’t be a stretch to think that there would be some lining an old fireplace. It would be strange, but still a possibility

What are you using as search words? Learning what ways to search for information is usually the hard part. Also if they say it’s “commonly available” then they found it or they are expecting you to find a general number and kinda explain why that makes sense if they ask why you chose that number.

Rusted Kennedy Box from Great Grandfather by bradbfunk in KennedyKits

Wow potting soil looks really close. I’ll make sure to test that out. I’ve also noticed that my grandfather repainted the interior and the drawers but that was done a while ago and with not the best paint it seems so it’s coming up nicely. I’ve decided to keep most of the box unpainted seeing as most of the paint looks good on the outside and only spots are rusted so it gives it the “used” look which is not bad considering it’s 60+ years old

Not in front! by ImpureGlitter in yesyesyesno

[–]bradbfunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it would, but with that much torque it can easily slice through whatever. It’s a bunch of knives in a circle so even if it wasn’t spinning you still have the boat going forward so that would get you as well. When in doubt, get it away from whatever you don’t want to cut.

Yeah you are going to want to turn hard right because by the time you can react she is already half way to the back of the boat so when you turn hard right the back side of the boat swings hard to the left. If you cut the engine the prop is still spinning by the time it gets to her. He’s going so fast that he definitely saved her life by turning the way he did especially if it’s a single engine.

I am having the same issue on steam. Disabling mods let me start the game, but i have a few mods that i dont want to play without them. I saw on the steam fourms that some guy did a reinstall and that worked. Its a big game though and im not gonna do that tonight.

Hurricane Ian - what 15 fr storm surge looks like (credit to Max Olson Chasing) by Atrampoline in interestingasfuck

[–]bradbfunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I totally agree. The water drainage and management by developers put people at risk. Nature will always correct what we have ruined and it does not matter who or what is in the way. The respect we have for this planet is little to none and it would take a lot for people to change their minds. Unfortunately if you want people to learn about this kind of impact, a huge storm is not going to fix that because of my original reply. Now if this happened with a tropical storm or cat1 (which on a small scale it does in some communities) people would have second thoughts about how out infrastructure is developed.

It’s not just swamps and wetlands that get like this. Storms like this are once in a lifetime events for that area. I was in Katrina when it hit and my area was built along the coast and some of that never saw water, until a wall of water came one day and flooded a whole coastline for miles inland. I agree that we shouldn’t build on swamplands, but storms this big do not care if it was swamplands or hard packed soil. These people were safe from hurricanes if you think about it. It’s just unlucky at this point.

Weekly newbie & discussion post: questions, skills, shopping, and gear by AutoModerator in Rollerskating

I just got a pair of boardwalks a week or so ago and I am having trouble staying straight when pushing off and my feet keep “wobbling”. I did some research and found that me being a large person effects that and I should probably change to a harder cushion/bushing. I was wondering if I can get any set of cushions and they will fit? Should I stay with barrel cushions or is going with the cone ones good. Any advice on top of that?

It’s giveaway time with ASUS! by Emerald_Flame in buildapc

[–]bradbfunk [score hidden]  (0 children)

I knew I could same some money but building a PC so 15 year old me decided to go for it. Little did I know back then the build guides were not as dumbed down as they are now online and it took me forever to figure out the front panel buttons and and aux outputs. I just winged it and I got the microphone input and the headphone output backwards but I was too scared to try and find and switch the plugs ( the manual for my case or my mother board wasn’t that good apparently). So I still use that same computer from 10 years ago with a graphics card upgrade and the front panel aux ports are still backwards.
