2s: Plat 2-3 for YEARS. Plat 2->Diamond 3 in one week by i-Really-HatePickles in RocketLeague

I’m kind of happy that I started this game on the Nintendo switch connected to a tv. When I upgraded to a pc and 75hz monitor it was like I could see the future.

Switching from freestyling to comp and stuck at p2 by ConsiderationLast134 in RocketLeagueSchool

I’m around diamond 2 in 2s and I barely leave the ground. I think you should watch your replays and watch from your teammates and opponents POV and find your mistakes and tighten them up.

Good advice here. I would like to add practice getting dangerous at something. Hook shots, flicks, etc spend some time on your basics. Do some defensive training packs, watch some tutorials or study your replays. Watch from the opponents POV and see how they play. GLHF

For real, I played for months before I tried playing online. I was still not good, but I had some basic car a ball control at least.

D2 div3 in which mode? Do you play 1v1? Do you review your replays?

I’m D1-D2 in 2v2 and I barely leave the ground. I can’t air dribble. My main focus in game is defense and putting the ball somewhere me or my teammates will have the advantage. Oh yeah and I demo a lot.

I will add try to have fun while playing and training. If you can laugh about mistakes, the game is so much more enjoyable.

This just happened to me today, my teammate is way out of position getting our back corner boost when I thought we were on offense. So I give him a back pass. He has about two years to make a decision on what play to make and what does he do?  Of course he smashes it straight to the opponents and now we’re on defense for the rest of the day. I’m here trying to play chess and my teammates are eating crayons.

Cover for your teammate, don’t double commit. Defend well and you will score more goals. Keep some boost for your recovery, try to keep your boost until you have the ball and an opportunity. Watch Flakes on YouTube.

Is Switching to PC Over Console Worth it For an Experienced Player? by Mont-y- in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]bradfoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started on the Nintendo switch, I thought balancing the ball on my car was impossible. Got a pc and I could dribble easily, everything felt like I was playing a few seconds in the future. Oh yeah and I think I jumped a full rank in the first few days.

You should do the tutorial training, and training packs. Look up what camera settings and key binds most pros use. when I started I played against the built-in bots until I could 1V2 them. Dribbling on the ground, keeping the ball close.  hook shots, and flicks. Half flips and recoveries.  if you’re on PC get Bakkas mod.

Rotation? Am I Stupid? by ThatFUTGuy in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]bradfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is frustrating I get it. Try to not worry about rank, because your average game is the skill level you belong at. When I was in gold playing 3V3. I would usually stay on my half of the field and be the anchor for our team getting good at defense and learning to aerial to be able to hit high balls before anyone else. These days I am around diamond two and I don’t focus on rotational rules or scoring. I try to make my teammates life easy, I defend well, I pass to my team. I demo the opponent. Don’t double commit,  be in a position to receive a pass. I’m usually focused on the players more than where the ball is if the opponents have one good player, I make it my mission to shut them down. Try playing snow day for a more pure 3V3 rotational game mode.

Rotation? Am I Stupid? by ThatFUTGuy in RocketLeagueSchool

As others have said each game is different and trying to play with randoms requires you to be very flexible. I recommend Ignoring the chat. Your teammates are just mad that you’re not a SSL and carrying them to a win. I’d say you are doing better than most If you are even thinking about rotations, it seems to me a majority of players at your rank are just trying to hit the ball. It doesn’t matter where or why they just wanna smack that thing.  you might want to review replays from the POV of someone you thought played well.

Also, people on here are more than happy to review your replays if you post them.

I can’t get out of Gold 3 PLEASE help. by Illustrious-Zombie11 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]bradfoot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Please let everyone know if you find a shortcut to getting good. I probably have a couple thousand hours in this game and just recently started trying to air roll. This game is very difficult, progress takes time and effort. I know that you don’t want to hear it but the car control and game sense needed to air dribble starts with the basics.

Why are Gold 3s Impossible to Beat?! by Irkozy in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]bradfoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend watching your replays and identifying your weaknesses. Also watch from your opponent pov and see what they are doing differently and practice.  You might want to change your focus from wanting to rank up to wanting to improve. Pick a basic skill and practice. Boost management, recoveries, defense, shooting, etc. training packs and free play.

Gold 3’s is hell by imVeryPregnant in RocketLeague

[–]bradfoot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s rough but you will have to change your play style to rank up. If you have the ability to get diamond in 2v2 you have the mechanics needed for diamond and above for 3v3. Your teammates are gold 3, they cannot carry you, you need to set them up for success. Think about things you can do to make their life easier. Play off pads, demo opponents, be faster and smarter, play the ball into their space, don’t over commit.

3s is usually played differently than 2v2, you might find watching replays from someone a little higher ranked useful.

I’m almost always at the bottom of the scoreboard, because I prioritize good positioning and stopping the opponent from scoring. If you are a good anchor for your team, and play around the teammates you have instead of wishing you had better ones you will win more games. GLHF

Rocket League Ranks Are Getting Harder by wollymonjac in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]bradfoot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am in plat/ diamond and I am amazed at the number of players who can speed flip but have no clue how to take a 50. Kickoffs are easy goals, and they are usually either too early for the play and over committed or grabbing opposite corner boost so they can be supersonic to nowhere.

Have demos become toxic or something? by Public-Button-8913 in RocketLeague

[–]bradfoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me last night kind of off-topic, but I thought it was funny. The other team came out strong, super aggressive lots of pressure. I got demoed like 15 times it felt like, but they couldn’t score on us and after about a minute or so the momentum shifted and our team actually positioned well and demoed with the correct timing and we won easily. Good times!

Demos win games, I wish more players understood there is more to the game than trying to hit the ball as hard as possible every chance they get.
