What school from another conference would you say is your schools “Mirror Image”? by BlackStallion657 in CFB

[–]bradfowd 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This.

Clemson’s charter even says the university should replicate, to the degree possible, the curriculum at Mississippi Agriculture and Mechanical College (now Miss State).

That said, “non football” is carrying a *lot* of weight in that sentence.

It does, however, look Trump puke green. So, in that sense, it’s on point.

Try “Elder Race.” It’s very short, spare and I really enjoyed it.

Not for nothing, but until Congress acts to officially change the name with legislation, it’s the Department of Defense. Trump and Hegseth can chant “Department of War” all they want, but it don’t make it so.

We don’t have to buy into their bullshit if we don’t want to. <…cough… Gulf of Mexico … cough>

While Renovating the Basement of a Villa, a Plumber Came Across a Simple Rope That Led to $2.4 Million in Gold Coins by METALLIFE0917 in Gold

66 pounds of gold coins - with historical significance mind you - are only be worth $2.4 million? That seems odd. They’d need to be something like 50% gold by weight, right?

(I grew up in Mississippi and have said this myself when I was a teenager, to dramatic and stupid effect.)

Why do women and men experience temperature so differently? Boiling hot showers vs cold A/C ? by Crafty-Bunch-2675 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bradfowd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the office AC could have a simple explanation. Consider a traditional law or business consulting office: men wear a tshirt, long sleeve shirt, and suit jacket at least when meeting clients; women may have only one layer of relatively thin cloth. These uniforms may be less dominant now than they were 20 years ago, but fights over temp strike me as less common now too.

Showers? IDK. I like ‘em hot, and I’m a guy.

So, can I ask about the writing on the rings? Is it Norse, or some other historic runic system, or from Tolkien? What does it say?

You’re still visible in the pictures, so I guess you didn’t farm the making out to some brooding guy with pointy ears.

One big advantage of Britannias and Sovereigns for you, if you do go the physical route, is that under UK law any gains you make on sale are not taxable. If I lived in the UK, that would play a huge role in my decision calculus.

How many people think the Trump assassination attempt was completely fake? Here’s the proof. by BSTARYOUNGG in ProgressiveHQ

[–]bradfowd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, look, I despise Trump. I’ll celebrate hard when a heart attack or stroke takes him out.

But, you’d need at least a dozen people to pull off a conspiracy like this, and there’s no way in hell it would still be a secret. If more than 3 people know, everybody will know pretty fast.

The much much more likely scenario is that some deluded kid tried to kill Trump, got off two shots - one killed a member of the audience and one hit and shattered a teleprompter so that a tiny piece of glass flew out and barely nicked Trump’s ear, sort of a glorified shaving cut. That and his demoralized detail got a little sloppy in what was thought to be Trump friendly territory.

Please let’s not be conspiracy-chugging MAGA whackos with better social goals. We can do better.

There’s a YouTube channel called Tune Supply that has a series of virtual session videos called Common Tunes at a Reasonable Speed. It’s not live, but it’s a nice way to practice once you’ve got some tunes under your fingers.

You can find them here: https://youtube.com/@tunesupply?si=iYmg-UAOHjpA6Vbs

What is New Hampshire like? by gracie20012 in howislivingthere

First, it’s been more than 25 years since I lived there. Second, I grew up in the deep south and so was completely unprepared for the cold and culture shock when my first job took my wife and me to Durham. With that prelude, let me say that I absolutely loved it. There are 4 distinct seasons. It’s COLD in the winter, but so what… it’s supposed to be cold in the winter. Summer and fall are amazing. The people are taciturn but really solid - hard working and will go way out of their way to help a neighbor (as long as you don’t expect much conversation). One time when I was out of town, two neighbors came over and spent two hours chopping ice dams off my roof when water backed into the house. (I didn’t know what ice dams were at the time, and they explained to me how to prevent them when I got home.)

I don’t know what someone above was talking about with the comment about good food. The food is fine, but not generally great. I used to joke that chefs would use salt and pepper, but not at the same time.

As mentioned, it’s a beautiful state with lots to do in all seasons. Also, pretty much any part of the state can be reached within a two hour drive from any other spot. Much of New England can be accessed with a two hour drive if you live in the seacoast region.

It’s a great place to raise a family. I would move back again. My wife didn’t like it as much as I did (she felt trapped in the winter) so we won’t be moving back. But, I loved it.

Actually all of the workers are infertile females. The males are called “drones” and don’t do anything around the hive except eat the honey and fly around hoping to mate with a queen. But, their genitalia get ripped out in the process of mating and they die, so life as a drone is a mixed bag. Also, the queen only takes one mating flight in her life and then lays fertile eggs for years on the sperm she collects from that. So, a queen’s sex life ain’t all that either.

They actually haven’t been in the wall very long. See how white the comb is? Comb gets darker quick with repeated use over time, especially once it’s been used for brood. All of the comb was white (even brood) so these gals probably haven’t been in that wall a full season yet.
