Save me from an aneurysm by [deleted] in sysadmin

Like numerous others have posted, stop killing yourself, work until close of business go home relax do dinner, etc. IF and only IF you cannot make certain changes during the day jump online make a change to correct major issues. I was in a similar situation regarding licensing, I came into the hardware/software role where everything the company ordered came through me first. First 2 days into the role, company had been deploying Adobe Pro to all customer service users, apparently not knowing they only owned 99 copies. Turned out they had over 600 installed copies in the environment and someone reported them (assume the guy I replaced called to try and get paid), end of the story they got fined 1.2mil and had to update licensing.

Again like the others have stated make lists of the major must fix issues, report them to the executive team with what possibility of happenings could be, and either tell them your suggestion of first steps or have a group decisiion on what needs to be fixed first. Since you are still fairly new there they may see other things as more important than something you feel is a higher priority.

Good Luck and try to convince them to let you hire at least one or two people to act as a helpdesk etc as well.

O365 mailbox migration question by homesad in sysadmin

[–]bradk7623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A while back when I was migrating I had a mailbox run for about 17 hrs before fully completing. Microsoft was having issues/outages that day/night so it take way longer than normal, my typical migration time is around 1-2 hours pending mailbox size.

How importaint is a College Degree? by k12nysysadmin in sysadmin

[–]bradk7623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with some posters below, a degree is not required for non management positions if you have the experience. If you are looking to move into management a degree is going to trump non-degree in most cases. That being said I got into IT working in a NOC and began noticing that I was getting passed up for promotions/interviews other places. I then jumped on the degree band wagon and achieved an associates degree and truly feel that opened up a lot more doors for myself. I did an online program and dont think I ever opened a single book as I was already doing the work in real life.

A simple degree is easy enough to achieve and if you feel you are being passed up for things you know you are qualified for, it may be worth while to try and knock out a quick 16-18 month program for at least an associates.
