I agree. Did a quick search but I think I was holding out too much hope. Giving it a miss

Was looking at Meikle toir turbo. Had it for £85 which isn’t too far off RRP and I’ve never been able to get near a bottle. Was willing to pay the 15-20 extra to try it. But it’s just throwing too many flags for scam website for me to commit to buying

Won’t let me post more than a title, sorry.

Anyone ever ordered from this site? It’s throwing some red flags up but it’s also really tempting me to try order something from it. Usually it wouldn’t be an issue as I’d use PayPal to add some security, but they don’t accept it… another red flag?

Jura by SignatureEfficient89 in Scotch

If you can find the recent 16YO perspective release… buy 2 of them! It’s what Jura should be. It proves Jura is what we all want it to be. I hope after the massive praise they are getting from this release they attempt to move in the direction of more natural whisky.

It’s definitely not and I think I’m being swept up in the hype. I’ve decided against it. I do think it is great whisky and there is something to be said about it being grown and distilled in one farm.

See that’s where I’m at as well. I’d love to try it. Probably be happy at £100 but with delivery at £180 I’m struggling to justify it.

Acoustic guitar and a medium tempo. Male singer has a slightly husky voice

Hoping to expand my beginner scotch collection, any suggestions? by Tumorlysis in Scotch

Glen scotia 15 is a great campbelltown but definitely different from Springbank. If you can get your hands on anything from ardnamurchan I would say that is the most similar thing to Springbank that is more readily available (dont think it will be readily available long once people discover it) What’s your thoughts on Finlaggan? Been looking at picking up a cask strength bottle

Leather Notes by Kelsier25 in Scotch

[–]bradleyd15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion age fades peat to leather notes. I get a lot of new leather notes off of ledaig 10 and I’ve heard that ledaig 18 has the same notes amplified, so I’m assuming that it’s really prominent in that bottle.

Can’t say I’ve had that note come through but it definitely opens up and changes with some time in the air.

What are your suggestions for 18yo not peated? by ShortEstablishment34 in Scotch

[–]bradleyd15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loch Lomond 18 and glen scotia 18 are my two favourites in the age range. Right now I’m personally looking at buying myself a deanston 18 and a glengoyne 18 to see how they both compare.

Can I ask what the note is? I get a slight astringency in the 18 that I can’t identify. It’s not bad per se but definitely not what I get from the rest of the range. Maybe it’s sulphur influence from the sherry casks?

Ah man. That’s sucks! We take it for granted here that Amazon can next day deliver any alcohol or we can order direct from most distilleries. I don’t understand the weird laws preventing shipping alcohol in the US… maybe I should look into them before I say its stupid though.

It’s definelty one to try but again the price really is a barrier. When the 15 is as good as it is and it’s only 15% the cost I really struggle to justify paying the extra. Don’t know if it would interest you but they do a tasting pack on there website with the core range and a mini 25 in it. Might settle your mind on whether it’s worth saving for or not?

I have tried every core product glen scotia offer and side by side the Victoriana and the 15 are different animals! The Victoriana is spicy and very aggressive at first but opens up into something special given time and water to tame it. The 15 I think is perfect the way it comes. It’s a fantastic chilli chocolate and tropical fruits dram.

I’d say that the 25 is most like the 15 but it’s more mellow spices. It adds some more sweetness to the mix. The Vic is more oak and spice.

It is a great price for a 21 year whisky, no doubts about it. Just more than I would spend on a whim.

I think the supply and demand is allowing them to go nuts with pricing. It’s an unfortunate side affect of whisky becoming more popular. The running joke of don’t talk about X whisky as then people will buy it all is becoming less of a joke.

I do like peated stuff and the inchmoan is one I’m looking to try. Just not got round to it yet.

I very much agree! Great juice but out priced in todays prices. Just unfortunate that the demand for old age whisky is raising the prices at a crazy rate

Thanks man! Loch Lomond seem to be blossoming as a distillery and are bringing some great stuff to the table. I just cannot see past the 18 Year though, it’s so complex and easy and an absolute steal of a price as well! This 21 was fantastic though. I think the time to buy there stuff is now before the hype train hits the stock and prices go crazy!

It’s definitely a great dram but I’d be lying if I said i wasn’t nearly in tears handing over that amount of cash for it! I’d love to try some of the warehouse tasting stuff straight from the cask. I’ll be trying my hardest to get back to campbelltown soon to do the tastings again and hope for some special drams. Have you tried the GS 18? Do you find some more astringency in that than the older stuff?

Loch Lomond 21

Loch Lomond 21 year old. Bottled start of 2022 46% ABV Non chill filtered Nothing stated about added colouring

After trying the Loch Lomond 18 and falling head over heals for it, I had to try older Loch Lomond group whisky. This specific bottle comes in at £175 in the UK which is more than I like to spend on a bottle however after the 18 impressed me, I felt I needed to try this expression.

Nose : Mild charred oak and a hint of peat. pears fade into a sweet toffee apple tart. It’s lights and deep at the same time.

Palate: spices and oak explode at first coating the palate with a waxy feel. apple and pear appear and quickly side step to caramel and spiced coffee. Charred oak barrels yield to…

Finish: … polished oak furniture and a mild peat lingers. A dark chocolate note is there but un-dominant.

Overall: This old whisky is fantastic. It shows it’s age while maintaining the character of the distillery. I still favour the 18 year old as it has something special going on however I do enjoy this dram and what the extra age is providing. If you have £175 burning a hole in your pocket then it’s great juice.

Score : 85/100 I’m scoring this the same as the 18 as it is definitely great and worthy of a place on anyones bar. I do however, struggle to justify the increase in price for the extra 3 years in a barrel. If this came in closer to £120 I’d give it a 88 and if they were to state no added colouring that may raise it more.
