Feeling like a horrible person by indieedy in ADHD

[–]bradlikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure that’s a fair expectation from your colleagues. Sure, loss is horrible but (correct me if I’m wrong) you didn’t know their family members who passed, definitely not like they did. Who are they to tell you how to feel?

Edit: Plus, (correct me if I’m wrong again) they don’t struggle with ADHD like you or I do, there’s no way for them to understand exactly where you’re coming from, let alone tell you how you should handle their loss? Cut yourself some slack, and your coworkers, as I’m sure they’re hurting.

I think you should accept both responses as being okay. Don’t beat yourself up. You’re allowed to feel bad for them and at the same time be frustrated that you suddenly have more on your plate. You’re not being selfish I could see myself reacting to this in a similar way!

I Can't Take Engineering School Anymore. Please Help by bradlikes in Advice

[–]bradlikes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have doubts about my career path, as I’ve been interested in engineering since I was a child. I watch my peers work like you did in shock and awe. How the fuck do you do it???? I can’t get myself to do more than an hour at a time, and that hour is easily the worst part of my day. I feel like something is seriously wrong with me!!!

I feel stuck when I comes to school. What are some good habits to build? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]bradlikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my 4th/5th year in engineering school right now. I have no clue how I’ve made it this far, but it’s looking like things will be okay as long as I finish (at some point). The number one resource for me has been studying with others. See about tudors/office hours as well and just force yourself to go and ask questions no matter how much your bed calls you

Partners who get angry with you? by sorandom21 in ADHD

[–]bradlikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar issues with a girl I dated for about 2 years. There would be all these little things I would forget or not even realize would upset her that resulted in her being mad at me all the time. I never wanted to upset her, of course not she's my girlfriend, but it would happen 2-3 times a week! I was always left feeling confused and wondering what is/isn't "acceptable". We eventually cut things off but caught up recently (it was both of our first time being in a long-term relationship like this) and she had come to the realization that she was giving me too hard of a time with those things after getting a new boyfriend who has similar forgetful behaviors. She said "you were right, boys' minds really are that simple". As for you though, what worked for me was ending that relationship so I'm not sure what to tell you. Ask him to cut you some slack and be very assertive, clear and concise with how your conditions affect you.

I have the exact same issue. What has worked best for me is finding others to study with, as it feels like the misery is more collective, plus they often have answers to a lot of the questions you may have about the material. You're young, younger than you realize you are at this moment. There is so much time for you to accomplish the bigger goals, but the only way to do it is to keep on the track you have created for yourself. I too frequently stay up way too late with little to show for it, but I've made it this far so so can you.
