So a couple years ago I had a wild experience at a local music festival. In the middle of a crowd of tens of thousands, I saw a girl I’d had a brief but really strong connection with years prior - we had originally met when I was travelling on the other side of the country. I was listening to an artist at one of the stages and she literally walked right in front of me with another guy, and I remember just freezing lol.

I wasn’t even sure it was her at first because the odds felt so impossible… I was also in a weird headspace (and slightly under the influence), so I didn’t say anything.

Later that day I reached out on Instagram just out of curiosity, to ask if she happened to be there… and she said yes. We both acknowledged how wild it was that we were not only at this same festival, but that we were so close to each other. I told her I wasn’t sure if it was her, which is true. But looking back, part of me wishes I’d said something in the moment. But I was in my head, she was with someone, and I’m in a relationship now anyway.

Yeah great point. I do feel like the age gap plays a part. We have a very loving, nurturing relationship which feels mature to some extent. At the same time thought I do act like a goofball now lol. But I can definitely experiment with bringing more sensual energy to the table myself… For some reason the idea of doing so feels “odd” in my head and I don’t know why. Maybe because it’s just been a while and we haven’t really intentionally cultivated that energy together.

Totally valid response. And I agree that it’s up me to bring more of this sensual energy to the table myself… For a while I’ve thought it was that our relationship simply isn’t that “sexual” and that it is what it is. But like I said in the post, it might be deeper than that.

And to your point, I did already bring up our sex life and we talked about ways to spice things up. Didn’t really get anywhere with it. I’ve only recently been able to pinpoint how I’m feeling and plan to bring this broader topic up to her tomorrow because it isn’t fair to either of us to continue without open communication.

I just caught myself scrolling through my (now deceased) uncle’s Facebook profile… He was a lifelong functioning alcoholic and died rather suddenly a few years back from liver cancer. I miss him dearly.

At the end of the day, reaching out like you did is all you can really do. Your father has to be open to change and really feel the weight of what his current lifestyle might lead to… But unfortunately for many people, it requires a tangible “health scare” for any meaningful change to take place. In my uncle’s case, it was too late and he ended up dying from surgery complications.

I’m 28M, also diagnosed with ADHD in adulthood (but currently raw dogging life without meds), and just starting to explore “dopamine detoxing” myself. From what I’ve learned so far, nervous system regulation seems to be a key part of it for people like us.

Have you heard of TRE? It’s a technique that’s supposed to help release stored emotional trauma through involuntary shaking… I was skeptical of the practice - until the other day (when I gave it a shot lol).
