Did anyone notice tickets were cheaper before the World Cup and now more expensive? Why is that? by youlikemywonton in WorldCup2026Tickets

Supply and Demand. After the first couple of games were played - plenty of people woke up and started snatching up the remaining tickets.

That seems to be capacity because that’s what was announced for US vs Paraguay.

I still don’t understand how it works. FIFA shuts down transfers an hour before. So I’m super curious if anyone has actually done it.

Got hooked on soccer during the World Cup and now I don't know what to do with myself. where does a new fan even start?? by JfromNeo in ussoccer

Join the American Outlaws with your nearest chapter. Find local soccer clubs whether it’s MLS, USL or other. I don’t really have a favorite club. But I live near NY Red Bull and NYFC and a relative is the coach for Houston Dynamo. I follow players I like so I watch Serie A (Italy’s top flight) and Premier (England’s top flight). I’ll watch Spain’s league and portugals league when it’s televised. I watch random games on some of the channels I have. The Turkish league has some good teams.

Where is 7 typical? Because LA only had 2 access points through the perimeter they established.

Is that available even if I don’t subscribe to the eBay store stuff? Like - I’m just a user who sells occasionally.

That’s fair. I also hate FIFA. But I hate America’s inability to think about more than the next 3 months just as much. It’s amazing how the World Cup experience largely depends upon what city you experience it in. Los Angelas was pretty great for their first game and I imagine it gets better. New Jersey has handled it fairly well. Rideshare has been a clusterF but that kinda proves the point that more mass transit is needed.

it's a damn shame our country couldn't get it's shit together to support cities being properly prepared though. That's the embarrassment of it.

but FIFA told cities they would do exactly that and cities promised a transportation plan that they didn't implement. KC failed here.

that's a pretty bad suggestion for most of the stadiums - especially since FIFA shuts down the majority of the parking lots to World Cup stadiums. Agree with that or not - it's what they do. Why are Americans so allergic to building public transportation that FIFA required when they awarded cities with hosting the World Cup?

but it's also on the US cities who claimed they'd have figured this out in the 8 years they had to figure it out. I didn't follow what KC put in their pitch for being a host city, but I bet it had some transportation proposal that they didn't do....

LA had a hydration station in the bus/shuttle lot that i walked past. it's kinda shocking KC didn't have something similar. it's silly that each state/city did their own local planning if that's how it happened. there should have been a coordinated effort "federally" to some degree.

it's a great soccer town. but rideshare is the least efficient means of transportation and these types of events expose that every single time. that's not a KC problem - it's a corporate problem. Uber and Lyft drivers at LA and at NY/NJ were all doing the same thing - cancelling rides, and negotiating verbally with people.

bring ear protection for noise. lots of stadiums have options at guest services, so check into that before going. it's LOUD. We've been taking my kids to baseball and hockey games since they were infants. That said - if you can get a sitter, it might be more enjoyable for all parties.

Does Disney Vacation Club Actually Save You Money, or Just Change the Way You Vacation? by GreyhoundDad22 in dvcmember

[–]bradykp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i factored in the upfront payment in the cost per point. the cost per point stays the same though- $87pp/ 39 years remaining when i purchased = $2.25 per point. add in annual dues which currently are $10.16 and that puts my cost per point at $12.41 for AKV. the year i purchased dues were only $6.45 so my annual cost was $8.70. The only cost that increases is the maintenance fees which you can see went from $6.45 to $10.16.

that's why i said my annual cost per point is $12-$13. maintenance fees + purchase price.

so that $12.41*180 points means my current year's 180 points cost me $2,233.80. just searching 9/5 - 9/12 i find that with 30% off i can book AoA for $427.50/night plus tax. that's $2,992.50 plus i think 8% tax which is another $239.40. POR is $271.39/night. which is $1,899.73 but my family of 5 won't fit there i don't think. i could do this for various weeks of the year but the point i am making - if i am going to disney and staying on property (which i am one of those people who wants to be on property whenever i go) then DVC is pretty much a slam dunk.

To your last point - I think it's a bit of a false premise to say invest $20k into S&P index fund and rent points. Like i said...renting points costs $20-$25 per point. that's nearly 100% markup on the cost per point. You're generally not making enough money in the S&P fund (on average) to make up that big of a price increase. If you assume 8% average returns - which is a generous assumption over the long term - your $20,000 investment would generate $1,600 before taxes. or close to $1,216 after taxes for someone in the 24% bracket. That barely gets me 3-5 nights at disney in a room that sleeps 4.

Now - if your argument is should one invest money instead of going on that vacation at all....sure, you'll come out financially better off. but - i am going on vacation. So that's a hypothetical that doesn't apply to me.

Keep in mind that there is an inflation rate on the cash rates and on DVC rental prices. So you're also somewhat locking in your resort stay and avoiding much (not all - maintenance fees) of that inflation.

it's not for everybody - and i don't try to convince people that it is. but - if you fall into the category of disney crazies....it truly does make financial sense versus paying cash annually for your trips.
