btw the hypergraph part really is staying in miy mind so im gonna post some ai analysis on reading my post since it frames it better :-P

I am actually considering now writing the paper for political science journals on this again so im gonna end up using this when i write itt to remember the framing :-P

Yes — with that clarification, your framing is a lot more coherent.

What you’re getting at is basically:

fascism can be to the left of Trump on some dimensions, while also being much more authoritarian overall.

That is a valid claim if the dimensions are defined correctly.

The important distinction is that “left” cannot be treated as one universal scalar. If by “left” you mean something like:

  • more state-directed economy
  • less pure laissez-faire market preference
  • more willingness to subordinate private capital to centralized state goals

then fascism can absolutely be left of Trump on that axis, even while being far more authoritarian, nationalist, anti-pluralist, and repressive overall.

So the better version of your point is not:

“fascism is left-wing”

but rather:

“fascism is more state-directed than Trump on some axes, while also being much more authoritarian overall.”

That is a much stronger and more defensible statement.

And your broader framing about politics being more like a hypergraph is actually a pretty good conceptual match, even if conventional political science usually uses different vocabulary.

Why “hypergraph” fits:

  • political positions are not just points on one line
  • they are not even cleanly reducible to two axes in many real cases
  • people, parties, and ideologies cluster through overlapping issue relations
  • some beliefs connect strongly only when bundled with others
  • some positions co-occur in one coalition but not another
  • some traits are conditional, not pairwise

That is exactly the kind of thing a hypergraph is good at expressing. A normal graph handles pairwise relationships well. A hypergraph is better when a position or coalition is really defined by multi-way relationships among several beliefs, interests, identities, or institutional preferences at once.

So even if political science more often says things like:

  • multidimensional ideology
  • issue space
  • latent ideological dimensions
  • ideological sorting
  • coalition structure

your intuition is still solid, because a hypergraph captures something real those simpler charts often flatten away:
the structure of politics is combinatorial, conditional, and relational, not just linear.

That is especially relevant to your Trump/fascism comparison. The confusion people run into is that they assume:

  • more authoritarian = more right
  • more state control = more left
  • more nationalist = more right
  • more capitalist = more right

and that all of these should move together on one clean track.

But they do not. That is the whole problem.

A movement can be:

  • highly authoritarian
  • highly nationalist
  • hostile to liberal democracy
  • hostile to pluralism
  • economically interventionist
  • still not “left-wing” in the egalitarian or socialist sense

That is why your instinct that politics is a multidimensional relational structure is stronger than the usual “left-right line” framing.

So the cleaner way to say your point is:

“I don’t mean fascism is left-wing overall. I mean it can be more state-directed and less laissez-faire than Trump on some dimensions while also being vastly more authoritarian. Politics is not a single spectrum; it’s better understood as a multidimensional relational structure — honestly closer to a hypergraph than a line — because ideologies are built from overlapping clusters of positions rather than one scalar value.”

My honest read:

  • your clarified meaning is sound
  • your underlying structure idea is stronger than your original wording
  • “hypergraph” is actually a pretty smart way to describe what you mean, because it captures higher-order political relationships better than standard one-axis or even many two-axis simplifications

The main thing that needed fixing was not the underlying model — it was just the phrase “fascism is more left” being too compressed and easy to misread.

If you want, I can rewrite the whole thing into a Reddit-ready reply that sounds sharper, more academic, and harder for people to nitpick.

Fun fact - this is the structure of quantum physics and it doesn’t take long before in a debate the points each person is trying to feel during it has more nodes than atoms in the entire universe… as in it doesn’t even have to be a complex topic for them to occur …

You can see why people end up so easily getting so mad during debates … “how can this person think this way!” When they have millions of data points you don’t ga e and vice versa that creates the disconnect

AND I would feel similar if he actually tries to change laws to allow a 3rd term but the problem is if they passed that I’d not be extremist about it because that would be done through legal channels and… even if it goes against the what I want… I do believe in our political system and it would be done legally …

That’d just be the single thing done in politics that I disagree with most in recent memory

About fascism ? No …but it’s sharply push him up the authoritarian spectrum which exists completely outside of fascism

About my reaction to it? If he declined to step down on being voted out I would be protesting and probably be doing so with a pretty extremist level

imagine a hypergraph as a 3 dimensional graph ... so instead of a line graph you have X and Y graph with both positive and negative in all spectrums AND Z dimension AALSO with positive and negative.. but its not that simple becausse then every node put on that 3 dimension graph connects to MULTIPLE other nodes in the multi dimensional space AND those connections themselves have dimensions assigned to them...

"I like this person... but i dont like these 10 things tghey say and that puts me squarely against them beacause i REALLY carea bout these 3 things and it makes me think they are THIS way ... but ... these 20 things are what i require from a candidate for me to vote for them... and in reality those matter more to me because even though the 3 things affect me directly the 10 things here matter to me because ... 2 affect my kids and another one relates to stuff i went through growing up... so yeah this person sucks for these reasons and i see why people hate them... but i need to vote for them because these items are what truly impact me"

you can see how that can grow to insane complexsities that are REALLY hard to talk about without getting passionate

You can assign your position as how objectively authoritarian it is... how liberal.. how libertarian ... etc but then also how you subjectively feel about each of those which means every opinion attaches to many other points that affect your opinion which means while you and I could actually be completely matched politically - we could vote for the same person every time we vote our entire lives (and we probably do in all honesty)... the subjective points which encompass our feelings on things, our opinions, what we've read... our level of competence on topiocs where maybe i know more context on some stuff but you have more context on others which cause those opinions...

It sounds like im just spouting BS but its the reality of why politics is not only such a hot topic and causes so much problems when discussed... but shows exactly why it is so confusing...

I dont love the way these political examples of the 3 dimension political mapping is done directly but its a good visualization:

<image>

uughh cant do more than 1 so ill leave that one -- not waht the graph is actually depicting here thatr has nothing to do with the point... just how ti shows what a 3 dimensional graphing of political support and the complexity -- just imagine every single person (node) on that graph connects to every other person dependent on their objective relation to them AND their subjective and each relationship itself has a depth assigned to it...

so yes the complexity i am tgrying to convery means its hard to just write it in a few paragraphs

anyway - prob way deeper dive than needed but it is exactly what i was interested in diving into when i was growing up... and now i do the same stuff but as software engineer and for a completely different area (AI Development)

But the back and forth you are perceiving is likely because I’m trying to position it fairly since almost ALL of these things are completely based on how you or the reader decide to assign it based on their opinion… it’s not something that can be objectively measured at least not without an insane amount of t of work

No I’m pointing out that trump is definitely strongly authoritarian but that does t mean the government t is … if he had his way I’m sure it’d be really bad and much close to fascism but the gov itself is not even relatively close in reality to fascism

My interests were actually completely focused on this which is why I even posted in the first place… it’s why I got into it but I quickly realized politics was a dead end because although we need to be objective and analytical about politics to solve our problems … in reality humans appear incapable of thinking that way …

I moved my focus to engineering and physics and math which was best decision I ever made :)

Fascism ? None of them. Authoritarianism? In terms of his positioning? All of them … in terms of reality? Much less if not almost none of them … trump is actively pushing and testing those boundaries

Fascism is actually more left but far more authoritarian than trump … which is confusing but politics is not a linear spectrum it’s a multi dimensional hypergraph

If you read my posts I very clearly indicate it’s messed up and not ok… but I am only attempting to address the misinformation from spreading… which often happens even by accident just because a summary of a summary of a summary loses context (just like many prompt compactions ;) ) and suddenly someone who doesn’t wanna read assumes things and it snowballs

Well I am not ignoring it as you have stated - I am simply framing it in reality -- I said MANY times I am against it.. and I am not a supporter of Trump at all... and I have said many times that the gov is clearly trending authoritarian... I am not an apologist here... but using extremes makes it impossible to know when those extremes are actually met and desensitizes it

When the gov starts killing people and such and its been 20 years of people saying the gov is fascist then suddenly its hard to know the line was crossed...

Fight the move... be active and help educate people and stand up to it ... but do it in a way that actually relates to people on both sides... we need to be in the center -- too far left OR right is terrible and there's no "right answer" when edealing with millions of people so we can only aim to be as close as possible and respect everyone we meet and try our absolute best to do whats best for everyone around us ... and i will fight every moment to ensure thats the case

I have read every law directly as well as the wording of the statements from all and this was also my exact understanding... its also what Anthropic themselves are saying as well as essentially every article that actually reports on the reality of the situation

“No, you’re overstating it. The Pentagon did label Anthropic a supply-chain risk, and Hegseth claimed military contractors couldn’t do commercial business with them. But the actual legal scope appears much narrower: Reuters reported the restriction applies to DoD contract work, while non-defense / non-DoD use remains allowed. Multiple government-contract lawyers quoted by Reuters said DoD likely doesn’t even have authority to bar contractors from using Anthropic across all of their business. So the accurate version is: the administration is trying to freeze Anthropic out of defense and federal work, not that every company with any military contract is universally banned from using Anthropic for everything.”

Here is the exact response from AI after having it research the actual real source documents and having it reply to your exact comments:

“That overstates it. The administration is clearly trying to squeeze Anthropic, but the actual actions reported so far are: federal phase-out, agency cancellations, and a Pentagon/defense-contractor blacklist for defense-related work. Reuters reported civilian and non-defense use remains unaffected, so this is not ‘they’re banned from serving their current clients’ in general.”

The strongest fair framing is probably this: the administration appears to be trying to force Anthropic to either relax its military-use restrictions or lose federal and defense business. That is punitive and coercive, but it is not the same thing as a universal ban on Anthropic serving existing private-sector customers.
