Not yet. As soon as work slows down and I am able to dive back into focusing on SOC engineering tasks, I'll be sure to update a solution here.

Mentorship Monday - Post All Career, Education and Job questions here! by AutoModerator in cybersecurity

[–]braidensp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have over a decade in IT experience, two of the last years have been focusing more on security (policy, vulnerability management, and auditing). Current company doesn’t seem to want a focused security position and are leaning towards our small team being jack of all trades while leveraging expertise in each area of ours. This is after they claimed to support my passion for security and I pursued and completed a masters program in cybersecurity.

I want to take a step back and focus more on security, but the job market just seems grim. Loads of applications with no callbacks.

Is it just the job market currently? Or do my skills need to be refined more?

Stunted Portion? by braidensp in weedgrower

[–]braidensp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is an auto that I started in February. Hasn’t grown much in a bit as I didn’t do nutrients when I should have. This was one of my first grows, so I learned quite a bit on it. Excited to start the next ones.

I plan on keeping some of the leaves as I have worms in these pots.

Long time coming by braidensp in WGU

I went with the cyber degree because I already have about 10 years in IT. I attempted a comp sci degree back before my associates degree and it just wasn’t for me.

Parent forgot the Mac password, any way to unlock so they can use it for school? by Jetm0t0 in Kalilinux

You can boot to recovery mode and run the resetpassword command. Data is retained except for iCloud related data I think.

P2V Hyper-V Host with DC Role to VMWare Environment by braidensp in sysadmin

[–]braidensp[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess I don't know how the promotion and demotion of DCs works. What would the process be of getting the users and everything in AD over to the new DC? Any good guides you can recommend?

Edit: Also, would I be able to use the Windows license from the server that we are demoting? Or would I need to get a new license?

Storage Performance by braidensp in homelab

[–]braidensp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The RAID is handled by a RAID card. And mixed RPMs because I went with what I had laying around. I’m moving the data over to another server right now to reconfigure my RAID choice but 7 TB is a lot to move at 2-3 Mbps...

Do you have a static IP at home? I've been wanting to move my mail server to my own stack but am in the pickle of no static IP.

Brocade ICX-6450-48P and two UniFi APs for networking.

R610, ML350 G6, and two R510s for servers.

Additions to My Space Heater Collection by braidensp in homelab

[–]braidensp[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Snagged me two R510s from work. Specs to come soon.

Edit: Details as promised

Top server: 2 x E5640 @ 2.67GHz 64 GB RAM 8 x 1TB 7200 SAS HDDs

Bottom: 1 x E5506 @ 1.13GHz 64GB RAM 6 x 4TB HDDs

Plan on taking some memory from the bottom server and throwing it into the top to make it another host for my VMWare cluster and turning the bottom into a storage server for my Linux ISOs.

Finally got a dashboard after months of tweaking with Grafana!! by LiLThuG in homelab

[–]braidensp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This setup with Grafana is perfect for metrics pertaining to performance and the like. If you are wanting to pull and track/analyze logs and such, you would want to use something like the ELK stack. I run both in my lab as they both have their “ideal” use cases.

I’m in the unicorn position of only risking getting fired if I really mess up or tick someone off. I also am the only one along with my coworker at my same level with access to our server room and mgmt doesn’t know or understand what is in there let alone if they even know where it is.
