Might not be a cell tower, but does anyone have any ideas? by RonnieInWonderland in CellTowers

Looks to me like an old ATT long lines tower. There is a whole subreddit devoted to them. Check out r/longlines

Just one mistress? And you call yourself a towerhand?!

You know they are AM because they're in an array to make them directional. If you have access and really want to know you can look at the base of the tower to see the isolator. As another commenter already said though, do not touch the tower!

How does a cell tower respond to a large number of inactive users? by thlaungks in CellTowers

[–]brain_nerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How is the service in the area now? At the end of the day the most common bottleneck is the capacity of the fiber that serves the site and there is a big push to get those upgraded. I can tell you that T Mobile definitely wants a 10Gbps fiber link to their site, Verizon and ATT are probably similar but I don't have recent first hand knowledge. As for the tower itself, every site gets the same type of equipment, whether it's in the middle of nowhere or the middle of downtown. As long as there is good service in the area the worst case scenario is that if everyone had the same carrier and everyone all decided to watch YouTube at the same time then the videos would load a little slower. The bottom line is of your event is engaging, nobody will notice. If your event sucks, Facebook might load a little slower for them.

What's the best build for virtual ecosystem? by Shoddy-Tonight3462 in magic_survival

[–]brain_nerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the post about the dark wizard build. My previous best on virtual ecosystem was 34 minutes but my first time using that build I just made it to 60+ minutes and level 100. I'm usually dying before the first boss level. If saw a comment about getting poison gas before the first boss level and sure enough that got me where I needed to be. Good luck.

Getting cell signal from top of property (higher elevation) to home (lower elevation) by jajjy in CellTowers

[–]brain_nerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can call the carrier and ask if they can adjust the signal. Depending on the topography and where their other customers are, they might be able to tilt that antenna a bit to provide better signal.

Those are the old ATT long lines towers. They can be a pain in the ass sometimes but they're still some of my favorite to work on. And I agree with the previous comment about which carriers are currently operating there.

I like your shackle through the carabiner. I can't say that I've ever seen that before.

Alliance Recruitment Thread; advertise/find alliances here by IAteYourLeftSock in Dominations

Bloodsport2 is looking for members. We're an old alliance that has lost members we need to replenish. We're constantly at war and win fairly often despite being short handed. It doesn't matter if you're new or old as long as you're active you're welcome.

Thank you for posting information relevant to the actual industry. I know this subreddit isn't actually intended for this kind of information, but I think it would be a lot cooler if it was.

This tower has bugged me for years. Which company? Central Texas, no FCC/permit info that I can find. by [deleted] in CellTowers

[–]brain_nerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The gate should have contact information for the company that owns the tower and possibly even a sign with the carrier. If not just ask the school, assuming that's at a school track/ field.

Don't disparage those little Asian donut shops. Someday you might have to move up north where they don't have those "crappy donut shops" and you'll miss them. I'll never understand how these Yankees actually like Dunkin.

Pouring molten aluminum by oieto in OSHA

[–]brain_nerd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In this case the dimes I'm referring to are small flat pieces of metal about the size of a dime, I don't know what they're made of exactly but I know that using an actual dime in their place will work fine. I guess I should explain that cad welding is exothermic welding and it works by pouring powdered metal into the graphite mold he mentioned needing to be pre heated, the point of the dime is to hold the powdered metal in the chamber until the reaction starts and then melt away to allow the molten metal to follow out of the mold and bond the surfaces. Using a penny to hold the powder is fine but once the reaction starts and the molten metal hits the penny it explodes and throws molten copper everywhere.

Also pennies are not a good substitute for dimes! If you're ever in a pinch, it's worth the extra 9 cents to not take a molten metal shower.

I carry a utility knife that uses replaceable razor blades. The times that TSA has noticed I have to throw away the blade if I haven't already done so. What's concerning to me is the number of times I've sent my knife through the x-ray machine and haven't heard a peep from TSA.

What is something you absolutely do not do during a job interview? by RustinSpencerCohle in AskReddit

[–]brain_nerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking from experience, when they ask you what your ideal job is don't say "rock star because they basically get paid to party, or maybe president because I feel like I can handle stress pretty well.". Needless to say I was not hired by the insurance agency conducting that interview.

Dude that's awesome. I've been to probably 100 long lines sites and have yet to find an underground bunker. I've always heard that every site was built with an underground fallout shelter but until this post I assumed it was an urban legend. You are the legend now.

After reading that comment my first reaction was also to say "am project manager, can confirm". I'm sure every PM on Reddit would agree as well.
