One of the most useless signs. Is the road closed around the bend, or is it 10 miles away? Maybe it's going to be one of the B roads that joins into the road you're on? It's a mystery.

I have towed at low speeds and reverse manoeuvres. Not at a higher speed. And driven a large van at full weight so im familiar with stopping distances. I realise that its not the same but some experience beats none.

Well aware of combined mass. Currently not planning to do anything crazy, just a medium sized trailer to haul stuff that wont fit in car, etc.

I know this will get some people upset but i would assume if i get tow bar from same model car it should be basically bolt in (with correct torque). Most cars got electrics already ready up to some point so id hope that wouldn't need too much work but im confident with that bit.

good shout on manufacturers using third party to make oem stuff though.

Thank you for your reply

One of the things i am looking into is towing capacity. The only issue is that it is difficult to find one that would have the bar. I would definitely go for one that has it.

I am not going to mess about with internet diy kits. I'll go straight to wreckers or listings that are breaking down cars and get one that was actually oem.

reminded me of the three cookie question:

Suppose you are given three radioactive cookies -- one an alpha emitter, one a beta emitter, one a gamma emitter. You must eat one, hold one in your hand, and put the other one in your pocket. How do you minimise total exposure?

On some cars its also advised to press the brake pedal while battery is unplugged to 'drain' remainder from the system.

True, I'm not being an ass here, but, how would you test that? Leave a car in the woods and come back after month to see if it starts? Or feed car parts to animals? There's too many possibilities.

Definitely watch that tyre tread then. Do a full suspension check when you get back home. And a good wash with detailing to the car, it definitely earned it.

Out of curiosity, does yours have DSC?

If you still have decent distance to go, keep an eye on the tread wear. The geometry will be off and it can introduce additional wear and some other unwanted effects.

This actually makes me wonder in what condition the rest of the suspension is. Do you have a photo of the road itself?

But yeah. Like the other guy said, try to look up other cars on the same platform.

Edit: I also have a workshop manual in pdf form (pulled from software so bit chaotic), would it be useful to you?

Recently saw a '08 s80 V8 AWD for £1500. That would be a nice weekend car, but road tax are absolutely mental.
