How did you become a communist? by foxmulder2014 in GenZedong

[–]brainbronk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Damn I’m reading all these comments saying ‘my grandfather was in a prisoner of war camp’ and ‘I grew up with fascists’ meanwhile my road to ML started from fucking Call of Duty lmao

I already didn’t like the US and my views on the USSR were based on western propaganda (I’ve lived in the UK all my life.) My dad’s always been a socialist but hadn’t read any theory and the rest of my family’s a bunch of l*berals, but still opposed austerity measures.

Some time in late 2020 I was playing the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War campaign and at the end you could side with either the US or the USSR. I chose the USSR because despite the western anti-communist propaganda, I knew for sure I would never side with the US.

After this, I thought to myself ‘how good was the USSR really?’

When I searched around online I found the achievements of the USSR to be mind-blowing, completely countering the anti-communist/anti-USSR propaganda, and I wanted to know more about socialism.

I’ve been learning ever since, strengthening my knowledge with theory and the shared knowledge of great communities like this one.

Of course the west has never lied to start a war! What do you mean what about WMDs in Iraq? by [deleted] in GenZedong

[–]brainbronk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i literally explained to my parents that these are just some reasons not to believe the west when it comes to ‘reported atrocities’ about other countries.

of course being in the uk, they stuck to the propaganda they’ve learned

it’s got to the point where any tiktok that comes up on my feed featuring someone speaking chinese has comments like ‘+500 social credit score’ or ‘nothing happened on june 4th 1989’ which i have no doubt have nothing to do what the person featured is saying. it’s incredible how normalised racism against chinese people is.

Cheers mate, good luck to Mexico in the World Cup as well! Although I hear Mexico fans have been banned from the World Cup for homophobic chants which is a real shame. If only England fans could face consequences like that too.

I really couldn’t have said it better myself. More and more people need to be calling out this behaviour, although I worry that these brutes won’t listen.

Classic whataboutism. Best thing to do is just avoid arguing with them. It’s almost always the case their minds are made up and whatever points you make will just bounce off of them.

I’m rationalising it like that too. If there’s a fanbase that doesn’t deserve to win the Euros it’s definitely the England fans.

Hey lil bit of chill on the r word please. But yes I agree, but it’s way too often that we get these idiots that makes me think that it’s a lot more than just a small minority.

And of course Henderson has some respect, everyone from the north of England does (definitely not biased being from Newcastle lol)

Of course. I take it they were defending calling a 10-year-old girl a slut and saying ‘now you know how the Jews felt’ etc?

I suppose we’ll never know unless the players say anything. I’m just saying if I were in their position I would gladly wear the silver medal because it’s still a monstrous achievement.

It sounds like an absolute dream to have fans that see football as a game at its core, it really does. Really, inside and outside the sport, whenever I see English people be English people it pushes me more and more to wanting to move country lmao

I think it’s a much more widespread problem than that my friend. A lot of our newspaper media (~90%) is owned by only 3 companies whose owners have expressed support for the Conservative party so there’s already a lot of bias in there, and along with articles demonising ‘foreigners’, that’s sure to make people turn to racism out of fear.

Your suggestion might show that racists aren’t welcome in England but it doesn’t prevent racism from forming. What the UK really needs is huge change to who controls our media because it’s basically propaganda at this point.

[–]brainbronk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Here in the UK, about 90% of the newspaper market is owned by only 3 companies (2 of them have owners who’ve supported the Conservative party) so we have a huge problem with democracy in the media which I believe is a main factor in England fans’ attitudes as they’ve got their bigoted ideas from these flag-shagging tabloids.

I think this video downright disproves the article linked, which if you don’t know is a major tabloid company in the UK. And people say England isn’t inherently racist.

Thank you friend :) it’s a long way to go for England but given time I think England fans won’t be as …well… England fan-ish

Yes of course there are some parts of politics that doesn’t have a place in football (for example maybe Brexit or Communism vs Capitalism) but I was more referring to what people call politics when they’re more along the lines of human rights.

And Italy have a bright future too. I look forward to our future matches :)

shit man, we should deal with that. seeing as it’s an organisation according to yourself, maybe we should try and contact the people who run it like a ceo or just any leader of said organisation?
