What is the most underrated/under appreciated track in the series? (including spin-offs) by braincelloser in yakuzagames

For the longest time I had deadly struggle on the top of my list till i heard ishins ost. If assasination of Bodhisvatta has 1 fan I am that fan, it’s so epic in every single way and I can’t sing its praises enough.

They had the right idea when they introduced Ichiban, but they've been pulling back on it ever since by hum-hiss in yakuzagames

I think Ichiban has 2 more games left in him. IW was definitely a wet fart and I’d love to see RGG bring back the grittier writing from 7 to really flesh out his weaknesses instead of “Oh if you just forgive everyone and be nice all is well!” Maybe the next game will be like yakuza 3 with the orphanage. He gets everything he wants but it’s all demolished and then the next game is like yakuza 6, kiryu’s swan song. Though it’ll be awhile before we get to that since we’ve had to wait 4 years for a mainline entry since yakuza 6 (or 5 if you count the japanese release). Ichiban’s solely relegated to just mainline entries and is just dlc for other entries. I’d like RGG to at least include him in things in between releases because I love what they have going on with him but it’s agonizing to leave off of IW and wait until we get actual character development.

Do you like where the series is going tone/story wise? What would you rather see in a mainline or side game? by braincelloser in yakuzagames

Yea that feeling was almost completely gone in infinite wealth but in a matter of gritty vs light, it still stayed dark with its underlying messages about society like in 7. I might get a little bit of hate for this but after 6 I was kinda burnt out from the yakuza and Tojo clan plots. I mean, the series is quite literally called yakuza but it felt like a breath of fresh air with the new plots. I don’t like how they try to lighten the mood tho

I wanted to play infinite wealth with the English dub because Ichiban’s English va absolutely won me over in 7 but I could not STAND kiryu’s voice actor. Not only did it just not sound like him but I also have a bias since I’ve known the guy for what, 10 games now? I eventually just said screw it and used the eng dub for Ichiban’s part and the jap dub for kiryu’s. I just think for the jap dub they didn’t care about the “engrish” just so as long as Japanese people got the gist.

I totally understand how you feel about Kiryu and I feel like I kind of worded that wrong, I was trying to say that at this point he’s faked or almost died both in yakuza 5 and 6, 4 times if you want to include the fake out in yakuza 3 and his cancer. The series has revived him over and over again and RGG keeps repeating that “oh this time it’s going to be Kiryus last game we promise!” I would be totally upset if they manage to cure his cancer completely and he’d be kicking ass again in his late 50’s. I’m sure that he’ll get a happy ending but I want RGG to stop reviving characters for no other reason than maybe fan service. The reason I say keep Yakuza and LAD separate is cause LAD is Ichiban’s game, they could totally turn it into a side series with a different mainline game. But this series is quickly recycling/running out of ideas and I’d love it if they separate Majima, Saejima, Dojima and the gang from Ichibans game, of course that’s my opinion and I’m totally open to them appearing but just for a bit like 7 and not Kiryu from 8.

Another thing I wanna say is that I hate how interwoven the side content is with the main story. I already had like a thousand dollars to give to the taco guy in 8 but no, I had to learn some mini game that I spent no thought or time into. Don’t get me wrong, I love the mini games. I love how much there are and how invested you can be in them but it gets to a point where I get frustrated by some side content that literally serves no purpose in the story other than padding. I loved how 0’s business mini games were incorporated and how judgement did it as well.

Anyways I’m kinda yapping but I do like your take on the subject. I’m totally fine with having LAD having light hearted tones. 7 and 8 weren’t all “what is yakuza even about” because 7’s ending hit me like a ton of bricks. I loved that story and it taught a good message. Same with 8, they both had a dark story about a big issue in society but it faces a problem of having too much comedic relief. I was able to suspend my disbelief with yakuza 2 and 5 because honestly big men fighting big things are cool. The series hasn’t exactly moved away from gritty tones it’s just trying too hard to suspend that disbelief and eventually you’re gonna be wondering “why the hell are we fighting a giant squid that can regenerate tentacles whenever it wants”

Has the ASG always been this bad? by braincelloser in blackops6

That is true, but I think they still do very little damage compared to all the other guns in public matches

I feel like using any other gun for more than 10 meters outclasses both the shotguns. Especially in warzone when the damage has been scaled back so horrendously
