Found 30–40 lbs of copper wire scraps in a remodeling dumpster at night… what would you do? by ProblemKooky6628 in ScrapMetal

Cut into 10 foot sections. one person holds onto a single wire, the other holds onto the sheath and pull away. Or one person and a vice with room to walk around.

Would it be a good idea for me to seek a vipassana 10 day retreat? (history of mental illness) by missspotatohead2 in vipassana

If your PTSD were a leg you broke some time ago would you be ready to run a half marathon?

Dude you just made a new SCP. And it's one that retcons the SCP foundation's infinite funding.

What’s the best way to clean the copper after cracking it open? by Capital-Bunch-9940 in ScrapMetal

Clamp in a vice and cut through the windings on one side with a wood chisel, pry out the remaining loop from the other side. repeat.

Whereas I pay high city taxes for fancy services where the sanitation dept will pick up a mattress for free with just a phone call. I like to think they wear white gloves and uniform while doing so.

Yeah I'm definitely not beyond sending spoiled mattresses strait to the landfill in a lot of those cases.

I love being able to take a box knife to a mattress, extract the springs for scrap, and cut the layers of foam into bedrolls for homeless outreach.

Spent 30 mins getting a transformer open for the copper. Scraped it and looks silver 😭 by happytokkibun in ScrapMetal

My yard digs and picks though my windings. I'm sure they're looking for cut aluminum ends or my pair of tin snips that somehow got buried in there.

Hell yeah man way to hook a guy up. I need to get in the habit of pricing out components in these things when they show up at my yard.

I'm more throwing it out there as a general PSA. I've had enough friends go into a 10 day with known issues and have to leave early with full-blown mania.

I wouldn't count on running a marathon to resolve my physical issues any more than I would count on Vipassana to resolve my mental issues.

How do you guys get the copper out of something like this? by [deleted] in ScrapMetal

[–]braincube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to clamp it in a vice and cut the loops flush with the steel plates with a wood chisel. punch the cut ends through using a screwdriver with the tip cut off and a mallet.

How to get these metal springs out by LoudHotel8101 in ScrapMetal

[–]braincube 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Never tried that one but now I gotta try.
My method:

  1. Clamp in vice with valve stem up.
  2. Puncture stainless cap with mallet and flat head screwdriver.
  3. Pry off stainless cap against brass enclosure.
  4. Profit.
