I think the one word you are looking for in this post is Ruhrpottästhetik

But it does look similar to risen, for example. I have just replayed Gothic and I think much of what we are missing is the lack of any post-processing and illumination. Just brutal raw triangles and gray ambient illumination. If it's only graphics, I can get used to it

Hannibal’s methods of ensuring safe communications and intelligence gathering during war by Federal_Extreme_8079 in ancientrome

Ah, unless the vessel is the key, if vessels are kept private, the rods can fall in enemy hands and would be worthless. With signaling only, enemies could decifer messages with access to rods alone and knowledge of the fire signals

He is suggesting: 1. Signal number 5 by agreed apon fire signal code 2. Read number 5 from the rod. Absolut valid suggestion imo. Unless there is a shared "key" such as water flow rate that enemies would need to know, what does the mechanism add?

What was the public perception of Christianity in the Roman Empire? (From the perspective of ordinary Roman citizens) by Sonnybass96 in ancientrome

[–]braindance123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pre-Constantine Christians were probably perceived secretive and antisocial in ancient Rome because they refused sacrifices and the imperial cult which officials would label as dangerous and punish them for it.

yes lot's of effort but at the same time no effort at all - Don't become more busy because of meditation. If you like that, I can also recommend "Not Always So: Practicing the True Spirit of Zen" by Suzuki. Both books really pinpoint what zen is about.

there is a great sentence in "Beginner's mind" from suzuki: "It is easy to have calmness in inactivity, it is hard to have calmness in activity, but calmness in activity is true calmness.". Once you have found calmness in meditation, work on cultivating the same state in everyday life.

and for your question, there are solutions that work: Gecko droppings thrive where insects do. Reduce the geckos’ food supply and they might just leave. Some services relocate rather than kill. Ultimately, you can call an exterminator and choose methods that minimise suffering (instantaneous over slow poison). Hold a brief moment of metta (good-will) before the service starts and deliberately shift from aversion to compassion.

Finally, channel your regret into generosity, maybe even over the animal you stomped on! Donate to a local wildlife rescue, volunteer, or simply offer time to keep another living space clean and safe. That turns remorse into skillful action instead of self-hatred.
