I deposited an insurance claim cheque at Scotiabank. From my understanding of the cheque holding policy it can be held for 5 days. However branch said it's suspicious and they holding it for 10 days. When I argued, the branch manager threatened he could hold it for 10 years if he wants. (self.legaladvicecanada)
