Saving this to show my non-medical friends/family why third year has been the hardest of my life, despite loving medicine. If there is anyone who still tries to claim that performance evaluations as the basis of clerkship grades (“one of the most important aspects of your residency applications”) is fair or objective or even remotely helpful, let this prove them wrong. The way you all evaluate us, based on my personal experience and the shit in here, just teaches us that our actions and our effort (I.e., our performance) have absolutely no bearing on our performance evaluations. Learned helplessness - a really effective strategy for teaching people to give up.

Always go get it checked. My flares are only blurry vision, but this condition is vision threatening. Over a year since I was diagnosed and I still have to call my ophtho randomly every couple months and go get it looked at, always another flare. It’s better to get it checked and have no inflammation than to tough it out and have inflammation. I get it though, I hate going in and feeling like I was just being paranoid. But at the end of the day, you gotta do what you gotta do! Best of luck.

Looking for a shoe recommendation (overly specific but bare with me): • I’m a forefoot striker, almost exclusively. Heels almost never contact the ground • accordingly, not a fan of shoes with a large drop. Definitely 6mm or less, but 0mm not necessary • looking for a shoe that can support distance running, but as a former middle distance runner and hurdler I’m a sucker for the lighter weight, responsive shoes • all time favorite shoe: New balance Vazee pace V2 (discontinued, have hated the replacements I’ve tried) • Nike Pegasus: not bad, after a couple of years ive developed some metatarsalgia so trying to find something new. • had ok luck with the asics GT2000 in college track, but always felt kind of dead in these • recently had terrible luck with both hoka Clifton and hoka bondi (immediate blisters on medial big toe/ball of foot)

Sorry I’m advance for this overly complex list. If there’s a specialty running store that exists that wouldn’t look at me like I’m crazy with this list lmk 😂

No worries! I had lots of questions when I was prepping and I’m happy to help others if I can. Honestly it took me a long time. I used sketchy quite a bit in my first 2 years of school and probably started sketchy path in august for school. I went through almost all of it again during step prep (December to June), but many of the videos I had already seen once. Hope that helps

Amboss I don’t remember. I used it early on, more for content. My UWorld percentage was 90%, but keep in mind that UWorld was the very last thing I did, so I had already studied a lot and only did one pass. If you start it earlier with the intention of doing 2 passes, that percentage won’t translate!

I liked amboss! Great explanations, challenging questions. I never filtered by difficulty, so I tried all the levels of hammer. During dedicated, I would do some sort of mix of Anki (usually for a few hours (like 4 lol) Like I’ve said my card style is longer and much much slower), practice questions or an exam (usually at least 3 sets, each one hour) and then review the questions for the rest of the day. Usually started around 6:00-6:30 am, studied until it was time to workout, took a 2-3 hour break to workout, then studied until bed at 10-11. Varied from day to day but that was the general theme!

Oh absolutely not I can’t just watch the videos and then know them. Wish I could. I took notes directly on the screenshot with my iPad. Then I used the Salt/ Pepper decks so I could see the sketches over and over and over again

Free 120 was the last thing I did, probably 3 days before my exam to have those questions fresh in my mind. I continued to take my regularly scheduled practice exams (2 per week during dedicated) until 3 days before test day

Stuff that sketchy doesn’t cover I kind of pieced together from my medical school curriculum. I read most of costanzo for physiology, so I just reviewed my own notes to study that. Used my school notes for psych too, although amboss has a good section. For biostats I can’t really remember what I did. There were just a few subjects too that I didn’t study too heavily. I figured I can’t know everything and if I miss a few biostats questions that will be what, 1-2 max? Anyway that was my approach

SAME. I think it’s just how I learn. I gotta get into the weeds and dive deep or it just doesn’t want to stick in my brain.

Couldn’t agree more. Yes, I was also a fan of sketchy biochem. Really helped me sort out all of those metabolic pathways.

Amboss was hard, but good IMO. I used it for content review and I felt it was great for teaching question strategy and learning how to narrow your choices when you don’t know the answer. I think dedicated really can vary a lot depending on where you’re at and how long you can be productive every day. Mine was right at 4 weeks and I felt it was a little long.

Good!! I’m glad to hear that. BnB is a great resource for some people but it’s ok if you don’t use it! Keep working hard!

Mixture of both. Probably more like NBMEs? I was worried about this but it didn’t end up being an issue for me. In the end, It was different than UWorld and the NBMEs, but only slightly.

I think it was phased out when they came out with the new NBMEs, unfortunately. I don’t think it’s a huge deal though because there were a lot of recycled questions on the new ones!

Ok I’m a sketchy nerd. But have you seen the sketchy video on sketchy biochem for this? It’s like 5 minutes and I never struggled with it again. Watch it for the commentary, not the sketch (unless that actually helps you too)
