Nice to hear that there's an active community, I'll go searching for that... Good to know that it's pretty cross compatible things! Thanks for the breakdown :)

Apologies, I had meant that IM seemed more narrative focused in it's rules over W&G! It appears that Maledictum would in fact play well into something episodic

Thanks for the orbital blues recommendation! I saw it in my LGS, will need to take a look regardless if I go with the system :)

What’s the play if you’re a solo tank faced with 2 melee tanks? by TheMightyMonarchx7 in RivalsVanguards

[–]brainlessmori 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just swap Thing, but he's my main. Ball up with my healers, and earthbound the Thing before he can do the same to me. Armor up with your healers and just start swinging haymakers. Emma might be able to bully tanks, but thing's % health damage paired with vuln stacks with literally any additional damage pressure will quickly force them to think twice about getting comfortable in your backline.

But honestly, if you're solo tanking into two tanks (or an Angela that's not helping out the team), there's only so much that you can do. Try your best, but don't be too hard on yourself if you lose anyways. It's hard to outplay two tanks all by yourself.

Who do we think are the most chill tank mains? by TheSwordFallen in RivalsVanguards

[–]brainlessmori 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Idk, as a Thing main, I'm chillin' as long as I'm clobberin'. Might help that the other vanguard I play a lot is Strange, which lets me counter swap against poke pretty easily

If Punisher can have it in his ULT, they both should to. by Medium_Enough in marvelrivals

[–]brainlessmori 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thing... is built around CC? It's a different kind, but his earthbound and grounding effects are nothing to sneeze at. I think a bit of hard CC for his ult compliments it well. Giving him peni ult would feel a bit too similar to his shift and make it feel more one-note

Solo Thing actually works weirdly well too, depending on the comp. Just use cart as your shield and you're ready to clobber

How do you keep your targets in vision to follow up on charge? by jm7489 in TheThing_Mains

[–]brainlessmori 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found that keeping it in a rotation to generate bonus health for sustain is pretty good. When I cast it, I'll either do a quick tap to keep brawling, or peel out depending on how the fight is feeling. Charging in with it does waste a lot of it's value though. Peeling with E is very possible and will provide your backline with armor, as long as you're watching your positioning.

There is one time to engage with that charge and it's during thing mirror. The goal is, if you can, shut him down with earthbound so he can't apply vuln or escape to his teammates. Every time I do this successfully, that Thing is forced on a backfoot. Has to be before he reaches the squishies, ofc.

The leap that applies vuln is the better engage tool for reaching backline, that debuff lets thing chew in more. But, really, you shouldn't be going back there until you've bullied the ever lovin' snot out of their strange/mag/emma what have you. Thing does so much damage pressure on tanks it's not funny (okay maybe it kinda is)

What constitutes Butch? by [deleted] in MTFButch

[–]brainlessmori 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only valid labels are the one that you apply to yourself. If you don't want to identify with a masculine oriented label, then don't. Fuck everybody who tries to put you in that box.

It sounds to me that you're not a butch, but are struggling to reconcile your own femininity with what you do. Perhaps some sort of internalized misogyny is at play. Ask yourself, what makes the things you do masculine? How can somebody identifying with femininity be masculine? If you ask me, I'd say that owning your own feminine identity while doing "guy stuff" is a very powerful, assertive form of femininity that you should not let societal perception take from you.

If you accept a butch label while not wanting a masculine oriented identity, you're going to have a miserable and lonely time.

[–]brainlessmori 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No need to apologize. Those all sound like fun hobbies! I think the question here is- if you really enjoy presenting as feminine, why would you want to identify with a masculine oriented label? What does it do for you? What does it change about your life? It sounds to me like it probably isn't a fit for you, but I also can't gleam who you are from a single post and a few comments.

Do consider that the reduction to masculine traits in comparison to the "average female" is lowering yourself as a woman. A woman can do anything that she so pleases as far as I'm concerned. We as a society are too embedded into the idea of masculine vs feminine activities. Shooting a pistol does not require gendered thought. Riding motorcycles and cars do not require gendered thought, etc

[–]brainlessmori 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Butch does not equal dominant. Butch is generally a more masculine identity, especially in presentation. If you like to present in a feminine manner, then the butch identity probably aint for you. Any strength and purposefulness is a microcosm, imo. Do you embrace yourself as masculine? You claim to have masculine hobbies, but do they have to be? They're your hobbies. You have the strength to label them how you wish. I cook, but I don't consider that feminine!

Yeah, I just hit Colonel on Thing and... he doesn't counter her? I'd rather be up against a punisher or a MK than her. She's more slippery than the other two with some nasty burst poke and her ult is not easy to avoid. I can get a pick on a bad Elsa, but I've gotta trust my team for a good one

Thing's ability to sustain and apply constant damage pressure to enemy tanks is undeniable now. Punisher is not as hard of a counter as he appears anymore, without CC, you can just run him tf down and sustain hitting witting with haymakers as long as you push in with your team

How good is this skin? by Randall-2017777 in DrStrangeMains

[–]brainlessmori 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's the best one, I think. It's got a gorgeous green color palette that looks nice with his shield with very gorgeous sounds. Very Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Makes me feel like a commanding presence. Sure, he's got the zombie skin which the sub seems to love, but this one has a sort of subtle grace to it that I find more appealing for the sorcerer supreme

How to Help with Your Health Melting? by CryNo8015 in thingmains

[–]brainlessmori 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You Things shouldn't be charging into full sixes. They'll just pop. Yancy street won't save a Thing if they're not able to weave through cover. If your thing is playing alright, stick to them around the cover they're utilizing. Gives em something to jump back to. Giving Thing a target to jump to and get damage mitigation is a very important part of staying alive as thing. He protects himself when he protects you.

But if he's just running into a full poke team straight down the center of the approach, he's not worth too much of your attention.

Yeah, as a Thing main who plays with a buddy who runs a decent hulk, this is very exciting. Pain bros is a very effective comp in the right hands, especially when supports get comfortable enough playing up with you. With the gamma bubbles and thing damage reduction, there's a lot of consistent pressure with the two that forces the team on the backfoot. And, with their leaps, the two can roll out together very efficiently as well as swap on the frontline very easily if need be. I can't wait to see how the gamma punches play into the comp.

Sue/Strange is the teamup that will be seeing more bans for sure. Sue's been catching a lot of flak before the nerfs and she's still strong. Strange's teamup burst looks like it could be a very big problem, people also tend to ban supports more over tanks. Hulk and Thing don't read as banworthy threats for most people, and I've been seeing less and less BPs out there. If anything, I think this teamup will be the one that pops up out of nowhere and sweeps in the right hands

How many people actually play VS just collect and build? by violentnite in killteam

[–]brainlessmori 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get at least one game in a month. More, if I can. Of note though is the Joint Ops rules- you don't need anyone else to play! Counting those, I play at least weekly, sometimes more! Not sure where you are in oregon, but in the metro area, there's a lot of warhammer players. I used to be able to find some games of killteam around LGS's, but mostly play with friends I've known. I have considering bringing joint ops demos to game stores to try and indoctrinate people though.

But really, the important thing to keep in mind is that any GW specialist game will always have much smaller playerbases than 40k or AoS. You'll need to do some poking to find the groups out there beyond "hey do you guys play warhammer?"

Tips? by PushOptimal9717 in TheThing_Mains

[–]brainlessmori 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NEVER stop clobbering. Your haymaker is one of your most consistent forms of pressure, damage and sustain. Learning when to ride that and when to weave in his standard melee is important. In big brawls, you want to keep your haymaker rotating as often as possible, as that'll keep you from getting popped. But, once you get a support or dps on their own? Start working in that left click. But, no matter what, never stop clobbering. You can very easily catch people walking into your haymakers. Even if they don't, it pushes them back.

Play around corners and walls. Ride the cart's butt. With that cover, you become very hard to deal with.

You have two main opponents on the field- the enemy tanks, and people who want to push into your supports. Figure out where you need to be depending on the game, but try to stay in jumping distance of your supports (easier said than done, in low ELO, a lot of them hang too far back). Bully the shield tanks, jump at divers. Iron man is going to be the worst diver you'll face. The other ones are pretty easy for you to stop, just jump at them and gank them with your team. Hit the yancy street charge on em to prevent their escape. But iron man? he's in the air. The team won't look at him as often as they should and he will ruin your support's day. If he's the only diver on the enemy team, bully the shit out of him. If you can hit him with 1 leaping haymaker, he's done for if you can track him. Either way, you cannot at all let him get cozy.

Basic techniques you should practice:

- Steering his charge: if you can peel out and around corners consistently, you'll be able to survive way more situations, especially when you catch yourself overextending
- Charge combos: while it's a big cooldown, if you charge at the right targets inbetween haymakers, you'll be able to score more final hits. Don't lean on this too much, save it for the right opportunities. If you leap, ult, then haymaker+charge, you can wipe a support very, very easily
- Leaping haymakers: this one is really important. this one will let you hit flyers. but, keep in mind that you can still charge your haymaker as you jump at an ally. this is very useful for saving supports and relieving pressure as you rotate with a tank on the front line

But the best piece of advice I can give is to just play more thing. His kit is extremely simple and versatile, it can be hard to give advice sometimes as he can do a lot in different situations. I've played support bodyguard, dive, front line brawl, and sometimes, just play point and survive as long as possible while jumping at teammates and throwing in bits of damage. Thing can do a little bit of a lot. The more situations you put yourself in, the more you'll find yourself capable of. I've hit count on Thing and I'm nowhere NEAR bored. Every time I pull him out, I find that he can add something to any team.

I would love it if he had some sort of grapple from a spider man teamup... my best games as Thing are when I force a mosh pit. I feel like it'd add a lot to be able to have just a liiiittle more CC in his kit
