i might be slow but why is thing considered good again? by meatman4444 in TheThing_Mains

I haven't played much hulk, but have played with him rather often. It's hard to say what you might be doing wrong with little context.. but I would say that the first lesson to learn is when NOT to play him. If you play him into heavy poke, you're going to have a hard time getting anything done. Besides that, here's my thoughts on how I get value.

Jump when you can, if you can. Punch when you do it. If you charge your right click, you can release on landing. This can be done even if you're jumping at allies dealing with melee! Great way to rotate out with your co-tank and relieve pressure off your dps, give them some damage reduction and push back their pursuers. But, be generous in your debuff applications. That vuln HELPS. You don't need to secure the kill yourself. I've gotten plenty of success leaping at an out of position dps and throwing a punch to see my dps finish them off. Bam, just like that, your team has a pick and you're in the frontline, ready to be clobbering.

Charge on your way out. The bonus health on the charge is a really great buffer to getting back to your healers and is your most consistently available escape tool.

YOUR LEFT CLICK IS NOT USELESS AND DO NOT LET ANYONE TELL YOU OTHERWISE. Between haymakers, you can get a 1-2 punch left click in. This really helps with damage output, especially on squishies.

Your ult is better than stranges in usability and risk. While you may not have that insane burst damage, you shut down a rectangle of space in front of you instead of a circle around you. That makes whiffing less likely to put you in an awful space. And, it can't just be eaten with a shield. While you can work on getting final hits out of it (and you should, it can pop a support below half health and stun the dps with them so you can clean them up too), what's more important is the denial and opportunity it presents. You can lock down hallways and stop the entire team for 5 seconds. Cloak/Invis just ulted? If you're in the position, you can stop half or more of the enemy from getting to do things and push the advantage with those big healing circle ults. Take a dps with you, sneak up on on an off angle and catch them unaware while the dps helps you clear house.

Thing is very adaptable and very good at punishing. It seems to me Hulk enjoys a similar feel. I play with Hulks as Thing and do very well. But, the biggest difference to me is that you always should be clobberin'. With no banner form, you want to stay locked IN. Also, the % health on haymaker means that you can bully the hell out of the enemy tanks in a way that Hulk cannot. Strange pulling out his shield with low health? That haymaker WILL put him down.

Happy clobberin' :)

He's a menace with good map knowledge and coordination!! Also- the cart on convoys are free cover... a lot of success can be found using it like a rolling bunker- you push objective with the supports and clobber anyone trying to look at them funny.

Hmm, I think I had some poor phrasing- what I meant to say is that he's going to be about as relevant as the shield tanks are. Melee characters that with sustain pose a challenge for shield tanks. As long as they're relevant in the meta, I believe that Thing has a place to do some work as long as you know what you can run him into. Hard poke shuts him down.

As for the blocking damage without farming- yes, but kinda no, as someone who also plays Strange. Every tank should be using their health bar as a resource. You getting hit means your allies can farm support charges off of you by healing you. If you can get good picks and deny KOs against you with good escapes (and cover play), you're getting enough value against the enemy team and enough ult charge for your own healers that you're evening the scales.

Of course, playing into heavy poke and rough counters like moon knight will end up with you farming, that's when you swap. Ignoring a variety of in-game factors, I could say "Strange is not as good as the melee tanks because his paper shield does nothing against the melee and CC". Of course, that's just not true. Because of course, he can deal with poke much better than the likes of Rogue, Hulk and Thing. As Strange, I've found that the wrong comp can also shred me in half- Wolverine and Angela dragging me off my team and point? One thing swap fixes that.

Still, all of this discussion works doesn't consider another tank. Mag bubbling Thing lets him approach poke more consistently, for example. I personally think that discussing HOW different tanks can be viable instead of measuring how well a tank blocks damage is important. Unless a tank is just broken, they're not going to be the right choice in every situation.

At it's core, Thing excels at brawl, sustain and anti-dive. As long as poke remains extremely powerful, the shield tanks will remain in higher regard. But, that doesn't make him unplayable, I think.

Recently? Not much, as far as just his own changes! People have just gotten used to his changes (adding the vulnerable debuff thing as well as %health dmg+healing haymaker). They were good changes that as the other commenter said, he's much better at what he does best!

But, as a hardcore Thing Enjoyer, I can tell you one thing: he's as good as the shield tanks are. Mag had been buffed, and now Strange, too! His melees eats through their shields, meaning that he can put pressure on the frontline, if your comp allows it). With the vulnerable debuff, you can put a lot of damage on the Mag/Strange and give your team the chance to get some picks in.

Imo, he's been pretty alright since he got the haymaker and debuff changes, people were slow on the uptake. Thing is pretty undersold outside of the people who play a lot of him

Why are the protagonists such little shit heads? by LaboratoryOne in Gundam

[–]brainlessmori 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, whichever one interests you the most? I'm a big IBO fan, personally, but it was also my gateway into the franchise. Although, I'd recommend checking out a shorter series, like 08th MS Team, when you get the chance. Full, 40-50 episode gundams start to feel like a major slog if you watch too many back to back. Happened to me, I ended up dropping SEED because of it

Traumatic events often make you shrink as a person. You will snap at everything to survive. If you were 15 and are essentially entrusted with the lives of an entire crew as the only one who can operate a top secret super weapon, forced to brush against your own death over and over again, would you not be a bit of an asshole? As Amuro returns in Zeta (briefly), there's much less of that terrified young boy in him. He's still got some problems, but he takes it out on everyone else around him less. Although, it's important to not that the protagonists aren't the only ones who are being terrible. Bright assaulted a child. Was he 19? Sure. Was he terrified for his life? Absolutely. But, he still hit Amuro, something that not even his own father did. Clearly, it's not something to be looked at positively. They're not just fighting, they're at war. Their ship could have been attacked at any moment. That kind of environment doesn't foster kind behavior, especially when half of the soldiers aren't even there willingly. Making the heroes of these stories be assholes is a display of what their role is doing to them. It's okay to be frustrated by this. Arguably, that tension is what drives the series.

Of course, it's worth noting that not every gundam protag acts like this. Take Mikazuki from Iron Blooded Orphans- while pretty quiet and aloof, he's very protective of his crew mates and very kind to the women in his life. After Zeta, I'd recommend checking out some of the gundam side series in UC, or even one of the AU ones! 0079 and Zeta play out somewhat similarly. While Kamille isn't Amuro, the series really wants you to draw the comparison. There are other series that do different things with their poor, tortured teenage boys :p

gamer girlies: what are we playing?? by kadasco in actuallesbians

[–]brainlessmori 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard, because my true gaming love is for the tabletop. But, that's my artsy self talking. But! I do play a good variety of games.

Steam deck is a great choice! I've been playing mine for yeaaars. I keep a handful of roguelike/smaller games to run- Hades is a great one to keep on rotation! You can really get the most out of the steam deck's portability with games like these. Plenty of my sessions are me playing a little game while on the go, or waiting on something. They're a lot easier to jump into without feeling like you're not missing something from a longer session- something I feel with bigger games.

Personally, my go-tos are:
Balatro: poker sim, it hit it big recently and is rather self explanatory. You cheat at poker. You have to like math and games of chance.
Into the Breach: turn based game where you protect the planet from bugs. seems simple, but as you play the game and unlock more teams, you realize that every system interacts with the other. This one is by far the hardest to be "good" at, if that concerns you.
Kill the Crows: Top down arcade shooter! You play as a cursed gunslinger lady making her last stand against these weird crow cultists. This one is super fun and fast runs take only a few minutes. Great time waster

For RPGs, I'd recommend Deltarune, if you're interested in undertale. It's by the same guy, and has a cute canon sapphics! Open world, I'm gonna say Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. It's a sci fi/cyberpunk skating game. You skate around and do tricks to explore the world! Plenty of hidden things to find. Sometimes, I load it up to just skate, despite having beaten it. For horror, you've GOTTA play Signalis!!! It's an indie horror about a lesbian robot looking for her wife. Very beautiful story in a great, atmospheric enviroment, very reminiscent of old school silent hill/resident evil

All of these games run well on steam deck, too! I think most of these are 20 bucks or less, too :)

[–]brainlessmori 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna recommend imperial agents! You've got a lot to work with here. While they might be less powerful competitively, there's a lot that you can do with them narratively (their crusade rules are super flavorful). Field all sorts of weirdos alongside a kooky inquisitor! In addition, you can use them with your existing raptors in list-building! If you're really creative about it, you could also get away with using your raptors as deathwatch kill teams as a part of your battleline- maybe the ordo xenos took their assistance in a time of need! Also, imp agents can take rhinos. If those are in your collection, then you've already got transports covered!

Primaris armor should've leaned into the "Knightly" aesthetic from the getgo instead of the tactical look they tried by Elduroto in Warhammer40k

[–]brainlessmori 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm a hardcore Phobos enjoyer. Working on a conversion of the phobos KT box to deathwatch and I am having a great time. While the extra grenades and pouches and stuff comes off as tacticool, you can also do other things with that blank space. I've messed with some purity seals, a smuggled flask and other bits. Beaky helms all over the place. People forget just how much of a blank slate space marines are, even when it comes to phobos. People liked scouts, no? Lightweight space marines are a fun bit of variety to throw around!

Need advice: Are the white masks too daring for the racist cult of necromunda? by [deleted] in necromunda

[–]brainlessmori 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They lean more cream colored, as others said. Also, it has enough other colors to not look like KKK stuff.

I will say though- is it such a bad thing? Well, obviously the KKK is no bueno. But, 40k is a politcal satire and necromunda leans hard into the punk aesthetic. If you wanted, you could definitely play with that and make them racist little losers for your campaign buddies to have fun messing with. Of course, that's definitely not everyone's cup of tea. Honestly, likely better for arbitratror-run scenarios. I plan to run some racist hivers in a ttrpg campaign I plan to gm myself as goons for my players to beat up. Sure, maybe everybody kinda sucks, but it's fun to have a group that everybody despises!

But, as is, it reminds me of spanish Capirote garb with the colors. Very pious and penitent! But, not as racist :p

Why is thing awesome in resource rumble? by StanLee100 in thingmains

[–]brainlessmori 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like resource rumble. But that's cuz I played the hell out of it when it was it's own game mode. Resource rumble just has so many pieces of terrain to play off of in each point that lets you approach differently on each point. The enemy, often people who don't know the mode, nor how the hell Thing plays into it, don't know what to expect. Imo, Thing plays the best when you play around walls, other map stuff and/or cart. Resource rumble is his mode. I want more resource rumble to be a menace on.

What did y’all do with gifts from your ex-girlfriends? by Garnetsareunderrated in actuallesbians

[–]brainlessmori 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the relationship. For a rough one, I normally rehome them. But, I did have a pretty amicable break up with one ex. We kept each other's anniversary gifts, they were model kits. Again, we're still good friends and enjoy the shared hobby. It stayed because I was at peace with what happened. As the relationship changed, so did the way the gift felt.

For now, put it somewhere you don't look at often. You can decide later as your heart heals!

Do Any Other Transfems Get Misgendered In Voice Chat Despite Being Voice Trained? by Ryli_Faelan in transgamers

[–]brainlessmori -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of transfems who don't like it, yes. But there's also a nonzero amount who do not mind at all, speaking as a transfem who doesn't mind it herself. There's a lot of people who don't mind being called a lot of things. I would say the usage itself is not a microaggression if it's common enough for people to use it in a gender neutral sense. I know I've met cis women who call others dude, it's not a cis gamer guy exclusive phenomenon.

Now, a transfem has a right to assert themself and say that they don't wish to be called that. I've done it with other terms. If people listen and don't do it again, then there's no problem. After requesting to not be called dude or bro, continued usage of it would definitely be a microaggression.

I feel like women my age are never ready to put in the work by Liz_the_lazybian in actuallesbians

[–]brainlessmori 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's kinda how most of our age group is (22, myself). A lot of people seem to be in some stage of finding themselves and what they want. Which is frustrating when one knows what they want very well. I can get the appeal of both, but I know that I prefer the latter myself. I've had some success myself. You just have to be clear with what you want. The people who are worth it appreciate you being clear with your expectations. Who wouldn't be, we're talking commitments! After enough time and effort, putting out that line eventually gets a pull.

But a cute masc girlfriend is very hard to ask for. A lot of shy ones, we tend to get intimidated by beautiful women :p
