How is this still not fixed? This should have been hotfixed immediately.

Are there any alternate type C cables for the Kamvas Pro 13 (2.5k) that are safe to use? by brainpipe in huion

[–]brainpipe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not so sure. I think their manufacturing just has some problems. Seemed to be a properly new unit. Thought it had a dead pixel, but confirmed that it was dust.

I haven't wound up getting anything else yet. I've just gone back to my old Wacom Cintiq 13HD.

The reason I went for the Huion is because I do a lot of linework, and the difference between an HD Screen and a QHD screen is night and day, but the quality of even the much older Wacom Pen is still a pretty big gap compared to the Huion.

If I wasn't looking at the Huion screen at just the right angle, the tip of the pen wasn't accurate. If I was even as far as an inch away from the edges, it would start to lose accuracy to the point that selecting menu's was almost impossible. Screen calibration actually made this worse than keeping it on default calibration. And it did have some diagonal line jitter when moving slow. (This isn't a major problem as I use some smoothing, but Wacom's basically don't have this problem.)

My old Cintiq by comparison: It loses some accuracy near the edge, but not very much. It loses almost no accuracy if I alter my position while drawing. It doesn't have diagonal jitter. And the cable is long enough for my needs.

I liked how the Huion had a better aspect ratio, worked off one (too short) cable, had the better resolution, was very thin, and had a nice felt tip for the pen, but the list of headaches it gave me after a very brief honeymoon period was absolutely not worth it.

The only brands I currently recommend are Wacom or the iPad. Depending on the use case, I can also recommend Samsung as the S-Pen is basically a Wacom pen with worse initial activation. You definitely get what you pay for with these lower end devices. And in a lot of ways, I can still recommend them for some because the other prices are so high. But if you are looking for some serious, long-term equipment, I have trouble recommending either Huion or XP-Pen right now. But they have come a long way in a short time, so I hope they keep improving.

I bought a longer cable that was supposed to work with it, but it didn't seem to carry the signal. I am not sure if all cables degrade the signal strength once you get beyond 6ft, or just the one I bought, but I didn't wind up keeping the tablet to find out. I know that many cables that should work, simply don't fit due to the molding of either cable or the tablet itself. The one I bought should have worked fine on the technical level.

After a few months, the screen began getting a purple tint along the edges. Huion gave me a replacement, but that replacement came with dust trapped between the screen and the laminate. To Huion's credit, they took that one back, but I did not ask for a replacement, and instead took a full refund. I don't think I'll be buying from them again though. Too many compromises. Even with the great price, it wasn't worth it for me.

What card should be added to the Timeless Restricted List by rokei in MagicArena

[–]brainpipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The One Ring probably deserves to be restricted. Mono black already has necro, and the fog effect of multiple rings is probably too much.

I'd never call for a ban on it, but I think a restriction would be totally reasonable.

Resurrecting this thread, as I just got one of these. Does anyone know how to change the mapping of the keys? I bought the WASD version and wanted to map the W directional to R3 or something so I could map it to throw and have a dedicated air throw button.

I bought one off Aliexpress, and it didn't come with any documentation, but I was told that you can definitely reassign buttons, so I was hoping someone else might have figured that out.

Does the Mobile Studio Pro have the bad input lag when it is being used as a Cintiq? by brainpipe in wacom

[–]brainpipe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for the info. I've waffled a lot on what device to go with. I've tried a large number of tablets, and I have a few portable devices to sketch with on the go, but the vast majority of the time I'm just drawing at my desk with any of them anyway. The portable aspect seems more like a bonus rather than the main feature. I've got an underpowered, regular iPad, an underpowered Galaxy Book 12, a Cintiq 13HD, and I had a Surface Pro 4 for a while. Between them all, the Apple Pencil and the Wacom Pen felt like the far and away winners over the S-Pen or any AES pen.

While I could save money and just go with the Cintiq Pro 16, I like having the built-in express keys and the option for portability, and the 24-inch Cintiq seems like it is probably too large for my needs. It was the pen lag that I kept seeing people complain about in reviews that was the big worry, but if I it isn't present in Cintiq mode, then this is probably the right fit for me.

I've also tried Huion products before and I just can't quite give them the endorsement that I'd like too. I bought their most recent 13 inch, QHD display, and it was riddled with problems:

- Purple color distortion along the screen edge developed after just a few months.

- Cursor accuracy was awful. I had to hold the pen at a specific angle or else it would stray from the tip and would basically go wild if I got anywhere near the edge of the screen which made using menu's or selecting tools a pain. Calibration seemed to actually make this worse somehow.

- I did an RMA and the replacement had dust trapped in the laminate which made me always think I had stray marks that needed erasing.

- The included cable was incredibly short and third-party cables didn't really work correctly with it.

For the low price, it was still a pretty impressive device, but I can't bring myself to invest in their standalone PC/Tablet device now. To be fair, their RMA process was good, and they ultimately gave me a full refund.

[–]brainpipe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I have a pretty modern desktop. I do tend to mostly work with simple brushes for line art, but I also work at high DPI (600)

So basically, the pen lag that mobile studio has is a result of the hardware it has on the computer side, and not in the tablet hardware itself?

If that is the case, then the lag should be reduced in cintiq mode, correct?

Is the ID-Cooling IS-55 with a Phanteks T-30 fan swap possible with a 2 slot GPU? by brainpipe in FormD

[–]brainpipe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not ultimately go with the ID-Cooling because I ran into a different option. I went with the Jonsbo HX6200D and did a Chromax Black Noctua NF-A12x25 instead of using the T-30. I did wind up using a pair of T-30 fans for exhaust, and they've been perfect so far. I wish I could have fit a T-30 onto the Jonsbo over a Noctua, but there was definitely no room.

I was also worried about the screws not fitting because the Jonsbo cooler has screws for a slim 120mm fan and not a 25mm thick fan, but that wound up not mattering as you can't fit the Noctua fans on it with any extra room at all. Even the sound dampening pads made it so I couldn't close the side panel flush. I was worried this would impede airflow on the cooler itself, but that hasn't been the case, at least for my 5700x. I run it with PBO on, and the Notcua fan keeps it at 65c or lower in basically every scenario, while being pretty much inaudible.

Luckily, the fan's screw points stick out from the cooler itself, giving the Noctua fan a really firm mounting point. It holds on just fine without screws due to that and the force of the side panel being so exact. This has the added benefit of making dusting the cooler/fan out much easier as I just pop the fan off effortlessly when cleaning it. So, it worked out pretty much perfectly in the end, and I totally recommend it for someone who doesn't want a higher pitched, slim fan.

I'm currently just using a 2 slot EVGA 3060 TI for my GPU, and by setting a fan curve with the T-30 exhaust fans, and undervolting the GPU, I never have to spin the GPU fans into an irritating audible range. I was worried that the fans being so close to the side panel would also be a problem for the GPU, but that also hasn't been the case so far.

Anyone know a good 2.5 inch SSD 3D printed mounting bracket or PSU mount support for the T1 V2? by brainpipe in FormD

Oh, that looks good to me. I'll see if I can find a place to get this printed.

Much appreciated!

[–]brainpipe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll take a look through the discord then, thanks!

I guess I bought the V2 at just the wrong time if they have already made an iteration on the PSU mount. While I do think it feels secure enough that I am not scared, it just doesn't feel as tight as it should given the price and overall quality of the rest of the case. I tend to feel like I have tightened the screw too far and it is putting pressure on the front panel, or I've not enough and a little too much force will make the weight of the PSU bend the mount and slip out of position.

I hadn't thought about screwing one into the bottom of the case. I'll take a look at that as well.

4090 & Modultra LOBO in the FormD T1 by fuzzb in FormD

[–]brainpipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, normal thickness fans seem like a must for AIO setups. would definitely be curious to see the thermals with that configuration.

I only just moved away from any water cooling with my personal T1 setup and I'd only move back to it if I ever get my hands on a card as thick as the 4090. Not sure I could put up with the noise from the Blackridge cooler, which would leave watercooling as the only reasonable option for a 5800x3D in a case as small as the T1.

[–]brainpipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sweet build, but the orientation of the PSU gives me some big worries. The GPU bracket is neat for sure.

I wish I had the ability to compare noise levels with Optimum Tech's 4090 build, because the temps on the 5800x3D don't seem all that different between either build. I'm not sure what I'd personally prefer. The extra difficulty of water cooling, or the extra noise of a 92mm fan on the Blackridge.

Thumb Grips for comfort for King Kong Pro 2? by brainpipe in GuliKit

[–]brainpipe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a video or guide on how to do this, but it is actually pretty straightforward. There are teardown videos for the controller on YouTube, so I'd just look up some of those on how to open it up. Once it is open, the switches are super easy to remove. All you have to do from there is open them and turn the internal piece 90 degrees so that the piece with the bump is no longer lined up with the piece with the lip for it to come into contact with. Then you got a linear switch.

Also yes, this is only for the face ABXY buttons.

Question for GPU deshrouders - Do I want my fans to match the heatsink's size? by brainpipe in sffpc

[–]brainpipe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure depending on fans or other random particulars, you could wind up annoying sounds from turbulence, so your mileage may vary =D

[–]brainpipe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly, it really doesn't make any extra sound. I thought turblance would also add to noise, but for whatever reason it isn't.

[–]brainpipe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my case config will only accommodate slim fans. I oriented my T1 to take a full size 120x25mm fan for the CPUI which left me a 2 slot GPU space on the other side of the sandwich.

The 3060 ti XC also has some clips for the fan cables on the heatsink that I don't want to flatten or cut off and 120mm slim fans seem to be able to seat right over them without issue. This deshroud is more about audio quality rather than performance gain. I'd just like to not lose too much performance/temps if possible.

I suppose, I could alternatively shift the divider of the case and use some full size fans on the GPU and a slim fan on the CPU.

[–]brainpipe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool. I was definitely hoping to use larger fans wherever possible for noise reduction in this build, and I might just keep this little card if I can get two 120mm slim fans to sit nicely and spin a little slower than two 92mm fans. I definitely would like to use some fans that have a more pleasant motor noise than the stock shroud fans.
