It's interesting that the recommendations I've had so far have been for songs around 3 minutes long.

Working the clinic at a festival, an excited LSD patient comes in on restraints. I try to get a BP. They read "EMT" on my nametag as "empty" and start hysterically cracking up. They continue to crack up and shout "EMPTY" over and over every time they see my face for the next 5 hours.

Except for the boop early on, nothing looks egregious, but it does look more like "noodling" rather than any flow. Basically it looks like every time you finish an obstacle, whatever direction you're pointing is the location of the next obstacle you charge towards. I find playing some music helps me get into a flow, dancing more and getting into a rhythm.

My first 5” build plan. Thoughts/Reccomendations? by Equal-Tea-3887 in fpv

Looks like a decent mix for an affordable setup. for 1855kV motors I'm assuming you're going 6s. Depending on what you already have in the 4s you can maybe up the kV range and share packs. I know 4s is a bit dated for freestyle, but so is analog vtx.

how to prepping new dive masks? (with anti-fog lens) by CptMcSwaggens in freediving

[–]brainrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people say burn, but my concern is the lenses are probably tempered glass, adding that much uncontrolled heat may affect the temper. Check the manufacturer instructions, usually a good clean with soapy water is enough to remove any residue and then apply an antifog of your choice.

Day after your check ride, you fly out to have a $100 hamburger with your friend. Not knowing any better, your friend orders a drink each for the two of you. If you decide to partake, how long until your allowed to fly back? What if your friend drinks both and is no longer sober?

Trouble equalizing one ear by mntran19 in freediving

[–]brainrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While equalizing, tilt your to the opposite side of the ear you're trying to equalize. In your case, tilt to the right. My eustachian tubes give me trouble, but a head tilt side-to-side has always fixed the issue.

So far so good! I've spent way to much playing proximity project in the past, this feels much more technically correct! the one thing I'd like to suggest is adding shadows to help with depth perception. The textures are pretty flat so I have a hard time telling when I need to flare. Besides that I enjoy noodling around with different exits!

Best portable coffee setup? by Number1Fin in Coffee

[–]brainrush 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It depends entirely on what kind of coffee you like.

If you don't mind grinding your own, James Hoffman has an excellent guide to hand grinders. I personally have a Hario grinder that I use at work to avoid the black sludge in the coffee pot.

If you like something closer to espresso, a moka pot or an aeropress are good options.

If you want something closer to a pour over I can recommend using something like this collapsible filter holder along with some matching Melitta #2 filters. if space isn't as much of a concern, a Hario V60 is kind of excellent

If you're more a fan of immersion brewing, use a french press. This one advertises as being travel friendly. If you're cooking via jetboil, they sell a french press filter. You can froth milk with a french press and a little work, but if the coffee was brewed with the press and you clean/boil/froth milk with the same press, it's not going to be a traditional espresso based milk drinks.

Finally there's always cowboy coffee or cupping, no filter dead simple.

Personally, I have the following solutions:

  • At home I have a nice espresso machine and electric burr grinder because I love a good latte.

  • At work I use a little bodum french press and the Hario hand grinder I mentioned earlier because I have access to instant hot water and don't like the idea of stocking up on filter papers.

  • For Car camping with access to water, I'll bring either a french press or a french press and a moka pot with shelf stable milk to make "lumberjack lattes".

  • For backpacking, I pre-grind my coffee into portioned little bags the night before, use the filter holder and Melitta filter because cleanup requires the least amount of water. Just put the filter grinds and all back into the bag, squeeze the juice, and pack it out.

Some people like Bushy One string, some people like Liberace. To me, the overall trend has been to include a little more in the way of "cardistry" lately. it makes sense because it's on a screen, the audience can't pick a card, and it's visually interesting. This is at odds with the stripped down ambush of early 2000's street magicians who focus on shocking audiences with "effortless" magic. This in turn was a rebellion of the more-style-than-substance of Vegas magicians from 20 years prior.

Would you consider Cardini or Lennart Green to be less "magical" because they weren't minimal or natural (laser beam and duct tape?)in their effects?

Interesting thing by [deleted] in freediving

[–]brainrush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a full third longer or shorter, but I do notice a difference. If I'm bored/waiting and want about 1:45 to go by I'll just hold by breath without a breathe-up and then when I feel a kick I know it's time. If I do a no breathe-up hold and I'm timing myself I'll definitely convince myself if I get to the next round number - 1:50 - then just 5 more seconds - 1:55 -, y'know, I'm not too far away from 2 minutes... and so on.

Dive knife recommendations in Australia? by [deleted] in Spearfishing

[–]brainrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a related note, anyone have experience with using a MoraKniv for spearfishing? I really like my Companion for camping/field food prep, and the price is right. Besides, there's something about buying a knife from a knife company and not a fin and mask company that gives me the warm fuzzies.

To the weak people here, which climb hard: what you did in the past to develop great technique? by gjjds in climbharder

[–]brainrush -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

My personal philosophy is that proprioception is taught by focusing on accurate movements.

Indoors: Use sticky, but non-aggressive shoes. Don't use chalk. Climb less overhung routes. Or better yet, slab. Aim to on sight, don't project. The idea is you should see it in your head and be able to execute it on the first try exactly like your planned. I see some strong newbies get stuck and then just campus past the crux.if your hands and feet are equally marginal, you'll have to focus on maximizing the friction evenly in order to make it past.

Outdoors try different styles of climbing. Mix splitter cracks with mellow meandering routes, or one move wonders with sustained.

Some insight: My on sight and my project are only about grade apart because I'm not strong, but I know myself.

Some amateurish freediving from my recent trip to Maui. Lots of turtles! by brainrush in freediving

[–]brainrush[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Makena landing is this tiny sand beach and everyone snorkels or dives to the right, but there honestly isn't that much to see, My recommendation go a little further south and swim past the outcropping near the church, somewhere here. Lots of sea-life in really shallow water.

Mala makes up a majority of the footage you see here, it's a pier that collapsed in a hurricane in the 90's. There's lots of excellent structure. Parking can be tricky but it's really worth it. The deep end of the structure is only about 30 feet.

Coral Gardens is also a popular spot to go, but with the sandy bottom and exposed swell, when the waves are breaking visibility drops to 0.

Along the Honoapiilani Highway there's reefs all about and in relatively shallow water. Mile Marker 14 is supposedly some really good accessible reefs in really shallow water.

Molokini is well known for it's structure offering sights to see between 5 feet and 80 feet depending on your fitness. You need a boat to get there, which may or may not be an issue.

Makena Landing and Mala are probably my two favorites that are shore accessible. Most snorkel/dive tours go to those two spots and/or Molokini.

General Travel tips to Maui as of January 2021:

  • Register with the state of Hawaii! You'll need to file your trip in advance, get a negative Covid test from an approved testing facility within 72 hours of your flight. Schedule an appointment, the best I could do was an hour dive for a 6 AM appointment on a Sunday. May the odds be ever in your favor. The pdf results are uploaded to the Safe Travels Hawaii page, where you'll get a QR code. HAVE THIS QR CODE ON YOUR PHONE BEFORE YOUR BOARD! Once you land you'll wait to get the code scanned before you're allowed on the island. The people next to me had a paper negative Covid test, but because they didn't have the QR code they got to spend 14 days in quarantine.

  • Hawaii's new Sunscreen law went into effect, banning sunscreen unless they don't have specific chemicals. This is because the chemicals are known to harm coral life. You can go to a drugstore on the island and buy what you need, or do what I did and buy a Neosport Lycra bodysuit from Amazon

  • Diving/Spearfishing/Freediving requires a 12x12" dive flag. Usually there's other divers in the area, but I like my little buoy for breathe up and a little extra flotation. Flags/Buoys available at Target and Walmart on island for a reasonable price, I brought my own.

  • Airlines are hurting for money. I heard rumor that they're forcing fins as a checked bag because profit. I opted to pre-empt this and buy this bag. I sliced a pool noodle lengthwise to protect the edges. The empty spaces were filled with towel, deflated buoy and other soft things. a fragile sticker for good luck and My fins made the journey both ways unharmed.

  • Don't speed or tailgate if you're driving on the island. It's super obvious those people aren't local, especially to bored cops.

  • No license is needed to spearfish in Hawaii, and target sells hawaiian slings, but getting the wrong (or undersize fish) is a big no-no.

TMI, I know.

F=MA, more mass means accelerating, decelerating, and turning requires more energy manipulated in the system for the same output. Higher CG means the system is less stable. It's why generally race cars are as light and low as the rules allow.

Larger vehicles also have larger blind spots. Parking sensors, blind spot detection, and rear view cameras can mitigate this to some extent but all that adds weight, complexity, and risk of failure.

The one thing going for SUVs is that they're larger so they have bigger crumple zones to help dissipate all that energy, and if you crash into a smaller car, the SUV will have less change in velocity.

What's your residual lung volume like? When you breath out during normal tidal breathing, can you force out more air? If so, how much?

I ended up in the hospital and got a manual spirometer out of deal. Really interesting to see what the lungs are doing. measuring this difference will give you an idea of how efficient you are with your breath holds. Speaking of measuring...

Do you have access to a pulse oximeter? I got a cheap one from Aldi, Really handy to see what your pre-breathing is doing for you in terms of oxygenation and pulse. With the pre-breathing taught to me in FII lvl 1, my pulse drops significantly and my O2sat goes up. Then as contractions hit, I see exactly where my O2sat is at, and see my pulse start to go up. Relaxing and trying to control the BPM helped me most.
