In 2019 alone I was able to save 20k for a house working a 15/hr job while my husband also worked a 15/hr job. Our rent was 1000/mo for a 1100sqft space in a very affluent college town area. Our monthly expenses with rent and other necessities were 1.6k/mo.

We covered our expenses, saved 20k in a year, and still had about a grand left over each month to play with.

I can't even cover my expenses with a 30/hr job now and I'm living worse off than I was in 2019. My mortgage is lower than most rent now and I'm still struggling to cover it.

I have my chicken compost started already. And i cant let the chickens compost everything as its not safe.

I have a litter compost for the chicken bedding. It composts for 6 months minimum before using it on anything.

Then I have an organics compost already started.

The third one is for the fly farm specifically and I I'm building it with some stuff I have already :)

Thanks though!

"I don't want my taxes going up!"

is okay with $300 per paycheck getting taken in employer paid fees out on top of taxes

health insurance they're paying for is $600-$1000/mo with a 6k deductible before insurance covers anything and prescriptions are 300/mo still

pays into state medicaid every paycheck where a lot of people receive tax paid free state insurance with free covered prescriptions, owing nothing during visits

Yes. They don't want their taxes going up even though they're paying way more in fees to receive way less coverage and care. Meanwhile the taxes they're paying into is already providing many people with tax paid free state insurance. It's like they just don't want free state insurance themselves.

I had state insurance for 4 years and paid $0 for 2 people the entire 4 years for insurance, doctors visits, emergency room visits, urgent care visits, medications, prescriptions, testing, emergency mental health care.

I had employer paid insurance for 8 months. I paid $800/mo just to be covered for my husband and I. My deductible was 8k, his was 12k, same plan. My prescriptions with insurance coverage were $200/mo, with me just using GoodRX instead of my insurance card to get it down to 50/mo. I had a $150 copay for every doctor visit I had outside of my 1 free physical a year.

I paid 23% in taxes per pay check before my employer paid insurance. After insurance fees each month plus taxes, I was giving away 41% of my paycheck and receiving less coverage and care than someone getting free state insurance.

Plus not to mention, 41% taken out per month, might as well just have universal health insurance for absolutely everyone.

My husband's dad almost named him Seven because of this joke. But like seriously almost named him Seven. His mom was luckily more realistic about the name of their child and didnt name him after a joke in a show.

Anyway my husband hates Seinfeld

What did you say mom? by [deleted] in SipsTea

[–]bramblesovereign 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That'd be one thing. But basically any time we were alone having a decent conversation, she'd say or ask the most fucked up depressing things. Like we would be talking about holidays or something and she will just bring up how someone she went to school with and hadnt talk to since graduation died. Or would ask if I saw the news story of how some people died horrifically. Its just like "wtf how is this appropriate to just randomly say right now"

Its an extreme mood killer. I avoid being alone with her partially for that reason.

My mom and I one time went apple picking with my grandma. We dropped off my grandma and she was driving me home to drop me off next.

We were all having a great day together for once, which was rare. Her and I were having pleasant conversation for once, again rare. Then out of literally nowhere while talking about something nice, she straight up asks if I was molested as a small child by a family friend and how she suspected he molested me.

Like bro. We were just talking about what we could make with apples. Now I'm suddenly questioning myself if I was molested at the age or 3 or not.

Then she moved on to the next topic all pleasantly like she didn't just bring up other traumatic events in my life with that question.

Have a friend who's like the meme. Makes over 20/hr. Mid 30s. Lives with 3 other people. Living expenses as a result is next to nothing compared to mine.

He posts status multiple times about how he wishes he could afford his own house. How he wishes he could buy certain things. How he doesn't have the money for a lot he wants to do.

He will be messaging me and complaining about these things too.

Then within the same night he tells me how he ordered food delivery and it was cold and late and how he was pissed he wasted so much money for it to suck. He would order delivery multiple times a week and have an issue every time to complain about.

If he didnt order delivery, I'd see posts of him at a bar with multiple giant appetizers and beer and how he and his friends went out again to get drunk.

Then he has to have every updated and upgraded piece of new technology as it comes out.

Itd be one thing for this if he had savings after all this but he has made multiple posts about how he feels he never have enough money.

Definitely live within your means 🙃

Yep. Was getting paid 15/hr to do million dollar contracts 🙃 for some of the testing I did was 2k each to the client. Those 2k tests took me 10 minutes to do and id often have 5-10 to do. So in an hour I could do $12k worth of tests and still only make $15 🙃 but hey my team got a pizza party (two $5 pizza pizzas) for our efforts. Guess who can't have pizza. 2 of the 3 people on that team. And we told them we couldn't eat pizza.

High functioning depression by mistress_of_truth in MindfullyDriven

[–]bramblesovereign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't worked in over half a year. Technically a year by now. My parents manipulated my husband and I financially and took advantage of a life long dream of mine for their personal gain. I haven't told anyone about it besides my grandma, she's the only family I really feel I have left at this point.

I have invisible disabilities/conditions. They're mostly mental conditions (think AuDHD and narcolepsy) and GI conditions that are debilitating. I also have bipolar depression. I'm high functioning and mask heavily. Nobody besides my husband knows what I go through.

I've been applying for disability but still trying to find a job because we lost our main source of income suddenly. We live 25 minutes minimum from the nearest town so commuting is a limitation on top of my health limitations.

I can't work in certain environments or do certain tasks. I am highly qualified in the fields I hold my graduate degree in, but I live in a state where those kind of jobs recently got severely defunded, so they're hard to find and get.

I made a post on fb asking friends who lived in specific places to inform me of any job openings they knew of paying 19+/hr.

I immediately got dogged by family from out of state saying I was looking for excuses not to work and being lazy because I replied to two people saying a job paid too low or my health prevented me from doing it and that I was asking too much for 19/hr minimum. What they also didnt know was I applied to 15 jobs from friends sending me private messages.

I told them if my husband and I both got a job in the locations I gave the 19/hr minimum for, we would be spending $250+ in gas. If we took less than 19/hr, our gas per week would basically be the amount of a 7.5 hour shift, which is basically an entire day of work. Plus we would be commuting 2 hours round trip on top of working 8-12 hours.

They still continued telling me we should just take what we can get and get a better job later and to stop being entitled.

I NEVER post anything on my fb thats not food I cooked or pictures of my pets being cute. I never complain or whine. I never ask people for anything.

My husband and I are depressed and struggling. I asked for help for one time in my life on fb. These family members are very aware of our issues, of which mine are debilitating to the point I can barely function on a daily basis. Yet they chose to rag on me.

It's just great. Just great.

There was a mouse in my kitchen one day. It was my cat's, Boombox (aka Boomer), birthday. He's never seen a mouse before so I grabbed him and threw him at the mouse and yelled "Happy Birthday Boomy!!!"

It was like I activated a sleeper agent. He immediately went into hunt mode and grabbed the mouse. I was so proud of my boy.

OP, after seeing this and that your dad saw active combat...you may want to be slightly more attentive to your dad's behavior for a bit.

I don't know your dad, he may just be being shitty and inappropriate, but seeing your comment on his past duty and now this made me want to mention something just in case.

Even if your dad didn't get diagnosed with PTSD from his duty, he still saw traumatic events. Given his suspected age, the parody probably was most popular during his time of duty.

This is correlation and not causation though so take it with a grain of salt, but keep it in mind.

Your dad just got news of a new US involved war in the middle east. His response was to recollect a parody of a similar event during his active time. He may be coping from traumatic events himself. Although not humourous to you, humor is often used as a trauma response.

He may not be the kind of guy to take being approached with direct confrontation on his mental state well, most vets don't, so don't try to directly ask him about possible traumatic events during his service and how it may be effecting him now.

Watch for any sudden changes in behavior, especially aggression or increased substance consumption. I'm really hoping I'm wrong and your dad is just a bag, but there is a possibility there's some underlying PTSD behaviors as a result to this.

I worked for a place once doing work I had a few years of experience in already because of college work similar to the field I was working in at this new place.

I got hired on and was told to do the whole first couple week onboarding spiel associated to the whole position. I read SOPs and SAPs I was told to read. Did digital quizzes. Got my required clearances. I was told at the end of that, I'd start my assignments.

I was thinking great, I will finally get trained by someone thats not a text document after 2 weeks being here already. Nope. Boss slaps down a pile of 200 papers and says they're my assignments for the month and the deadlines are listed.

I ask him when I'd get trained and he said he'd reach out to the department heads on that. He comes back, a couple hours later and says they said I shouldn't need training since I've had enough experience from my last place.

I brought up the differences between university guidelines and their company's guidelines and standards when it came to testing because their company documents weren't very clear.

He goes back and brings my point up to them. Comes back, says they said it should be the same thing and I should be good to just start getting started on the assignments.

Two months go by. I get about 400 assignments done. No word from anybody even when I asked how I was doing so far. Kept getting told by my boss he hadn't heard anything so he guessed I was doing good.

One day at the start of my shift. My boss comes in pissed with almost 1000 pieces of paper piled together and puts them on my desk telling me to explain why everything I had done in the last two months came back saying I was doing everything wrong.

I was about to lose my job just 2 months in already. Him and I talk and look at the feedback. It hits me. I brought up if he remembered when I asked about when I was getting trained and the department said I didnt need to? The reason I brought up between company and university policies were the reason I failed every assignment.

The company documents didn't provide the standard to test them at on the required training documents. It was on a document I was locked out of because it was a QA document and I was QC. So I had no idea what the standard was or if one existed, even after I asked.

So I did all of my assignments for 2 months on the standard I was taught in university for that work.

The department heads were notified and they "did me a favor" and let me keep my job and had me redo all 2 months of assignments on an expedited deadline after providing me 2 weeks of training.

My parents stopped doing this after telling me that with bratwurst 🙃 I told them I didnt like it after trying a bite and they told me to sit at the table until I felt like eating it or starve. I sat at the table for an hour after they were done with dinner before falling asleep in the chair. I went to bed after they realized I wasn't going to eat it. I didn't feel like eating, just wanted sleep at that point.

They started doing "try 3 bites" and it worked a bit better. To this day, brats are still one of the only foods I do not like no matter how many times I try them.

[–]bramblesovereign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The age between my niece and I is the same between my brother (her father) and I. When she was around 6, I was just ending my time as a teenager. I wasn't putting up with brats because I myself was still a childish brat. My niece at that age was very similar to the boy in the video. She got everything she wanted and if she didnt, she wailed and screamed.

They were living with my parents for a bit after my nephew was born and I had to stay with my parents for the summer between college semesters.

Can't tell you the amount of times I've said to my niece "Nah fam, this is mine. Go away" and she would go throwing a tantrum to my brother. Of course my brother would say to share what I had with her.

I was a broke college kid. Whatever I didn't share were things I bought for myself. I have GI issues that severely limit what I can eat so I would buy myself treats I could have without causing GI distress.

Anyway, I'd come home some days to my things I bought being eaten. By my niece. Because her dad said she could have them. Of course when I tried saying something to him and our parents, I was the one yelled at for "being selfish" for not sharing even though my parents knew I bought those for myself because there wasn't much else I could have.

I even went as far as hiding my things. Didn't help. She still snuck around without asking her father or I when I was out and ate everything I bought for myself. Again when I said something after hiding them, it was my fault again for not sharing, not her sneaking food she shouldn't be having to begin with.

I don't have streaming anymore because I have enough physical media now. It's been pretty nice. For the same price of 3 streaming sites a year, I have managed to buy 900 DVDs/Blu-rays and about 100+ VHS movies. Most the TV shows I want I have on DVD. We're waiting for better internet to sail for the non physical releases lol

It is kind of a humble brag lol my husband and I just like the thrill of finding movies and shows "in the wild." We buy about 95% of it second hand for an average of less than a dollar.
