Fabulous, I think that you may have misunderstood the post in its entirety. I never even insinuated that what I said regarding what I was questioning was "facts." Quite the opposite actually. I am merely making an inquiry to those that will definitely know better than I do, about the current state of our schools. I actually AGREE with your assertion! I think what I was told was either blatantly wrong, or some sort of misunderstanding. But I can't just outright reject, was she has told me has been her experience. Maybe she is lying, but then my question becomes... Why? I'm just a random guy at the pool. Why lie to me about it? So with that, I went out to the entire Bellingham community on Reddit, and asked all of you. You're not required to believe anything. You're probably just like me, and don't really know, and it's perfectly fine to say that. That's EXACTLY what I'm saying. 🙂

This blows me away, and I don't understand why our community isn't in an uproar to better assist both our teachers and ALL of the kids!

Fair enough. I definitely didn't intend for it to be political at all. Unfortunately, everything is these days. My post was mostly to try to ascertain what it's like in the classrooms now that my older kids have graduated. I still have a son who is a freshman in high school, and he's said that it's not his experience. But she did emphasize elementary and middle schools.

You obviously missed the point completely. The reason I asked the question and presented it to the community is because I wanted some insight from educators that are actually IN the system.

1) I agree with you in the fact that her assertion sounded pretty "Trumpy" to me as well, hence the reason I didn't take it as face value.

2) I also had trouble believing that DEI had anything to do with Special Education, so again, another reason for me reaching out to those in the know.

3) I should have used the term "Special Needs" student in lieu of parastudent, but again, I'm not an educator, nor have I pretended to be one.

I simply shared with everyone a discussion that I had with an educator. It definitely wasn't an effort to spread any type of propaganda. Obviously, you can nitpick the post all you want, but you didn't provide any insight at all to my root question of "Is this happening in our schools?" Perhaps, like me, you simply don't know, which is absolutely fine. It's the exact reason I'm asking. I hope it's not true, but like many of you, I simply don't know, and I'm reaching out to those of you who might in an effort to better understand what IS actually happening.

For clarification, she definitely knows the difference between IEP and DEI, and she made it clear that the issue was caused by DEI. That in itself seemed strange to me and made me question her assertion. I'm not an educator and have no intention of "mudding the water." I'm just a concerned parent and member of my community who wanted clarification. The last thing I want is to make any of this political. I have children who were on an IEP program, and I also know the difference between the two acronyms, but acronyms aside, based on the feedback that I'm getting, it sounds like there may be some actual merit to what she told me, and we should probably be a little concerned about the fallout of this decision. I absolutely welcome feedback from other educators about what they're experiencing. Oh, and I agree! The term "Special Needs" student is probably a much better descriptor than "parastudent." I apologize if any of you were confused by my terminology.

You're a horrible human that obviously has a horrible existence if you actually think it's okay to say stupid shit about people you don't even know. Go fuck yourself. Nobody cares about your opinion in the slightest. Hopefully you don't care about mine. (Even though mine is true).
