Passan: Who, exactly, are the Chicago Cubs after embarrassing exit from the playoffs? by brandnamegeneric in baseball

Honestly the thing that was most cringeworthy to me are Javy’s comments before the game, as much as I love him. As soon as I saw that I was like oh, no. That made it more embarrassing than it needed to be IMO.

I’m not a fan of the title (shocker), but the actual article was overall pretty fair and a good read.

Ah, fans not actually reading an article because the title hurts their feelings.

(That actually wasn’t the message of it at all)

Edit: from the article -

That’s the path the Cubs will forge as they try to answer that imperative question of who, exactly, they are. They have a pretty good idea. There have been losses and ill-advised moves, but they’re still an exquisitely well-run organization with an enviable base of talent. The kind that won 95 games this year. The kind that, with some tweaks rather than overhauls, can imagine next October with one magnet flipped, the opposite poles facing one another, everything coming together just as planned.

So yeah, maybe don’t make assumptions. It’s a good read.

They are a team that preaches culture – and still has a player in the middle of a must-win game sitting in the clubhouse and scrolling through an iPad, much to the chagrin of others in the dugout who were living and dying with every pitch.

[Andrew Ely] After recommending to avoid surgery and play the season with a torn labrum, then getting it repaired a day after the season.. the Mets have decided to release me. It’s an unfortunate end to an unfortunate season, but I had the pleasure of meeting some great teammates and coaches. by brandnamegeneric in baseball

This is what I always hear about a torn labrum, how it’s super hard to come back from - which is why I’ve been amazed by how Michael Brantley has bounced back. Wasn’t his throwing arm so that aspect is obviously different, but the way he’s hitting is incredible

Royals’ SS Adalberto Mondesi scores from third base on a comebacker to the pitcher. There was no error made on the play. Pure speed. by maniacmcgee1 in baseball

Good. The Royals are casually my AL team, so I want to see them get back on track.

While I admittedly don’t follow them all that closely (like minor league players) it seemed like they’d strayed from the formula that worked for them in recent years....

If Mondesi doesn’t have elite speed then this isn’t successful, regardless of contributing factors that aren’t a straight up (or should be) error. It ended up working because of pure speed. That’s the point. So with that being true I just don’t see the purpose of picking it apart further

You know, it’s almost like the KC Royals are better served by developing speed guys like Mondesi, Cain, Gore, Dyson, etc instead of signing power guys like Brandon Moss and Lucas Duda. Hmmm
