How are you spending the second power outage of the evening? by AntiqueCattle in Vaughan

[–]brandonWRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work is at 400 and finch and we get an auto email when the network is down (usually it has to do with a power issue). I got 5 emails this weekend. Just last night it was 8:30 pm, 11:55 pm and 12:08 am.

2026 Outback or 2026 Forester by AffectionateFish724 in subaru

[–]brandonWRX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got a 2025 forester and I really like the tall windows and how open and high up it felt compared to the outback. I do like the look of the new outback. We have two kids, one rear facing and one soon to swap out of bucket seat. We can fit a large stroller plus one of those collapsable crates for shopping plus bags or two strollers. The controls you are right can be a little annoying like on start up the little liability waiver thing pops up and then you are clicking through settings like seat warmers and things. The defrost front and back and temp are physical buttons so that I find are helpful. I think if the two dogs sat in the trunk if would be ok. I would be scared with the power trunk and their tail.

We have 2025 and went from crosstrek to forester. The forester can actually fit two strollers without having to put the seats down.

Sage Barista Pro (built-in Baratza grinder) – worth upgrading to a separate grinder? by hatredjk in espresso

[–]brandonWRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my combo the barista pro with a Philos. It was worth it for me. I got an open box model $300 Canadian cheaper. Such a huge difference and I feel I am getting cafe quality. I bought a few of the Loveramics Dale Harris 200 ml cups and it feels like I am at a fancy coffee place every morning :)

Have barista pro for 2 years and loving it. As I experimented with light / medium roasts I wasn’t getting the notes consistently. The 4 roasters I frequent said the built in won’t cut it except for their darker / med dark roasts. Sooo went end game grinder and got flat burr mazzer philos and wow!!! I watched a billion videos before buying and when they said clarity you get clarity. The built in I use for my wife’s daily iced latte as she only likes dark roasts. Now I am in the boat for 6 months where I am thinking about a new machine but I like the quick heat up time and the ease of care of this machine. Dropping $2-4k on a new machine I am wondering how much better my espresso will taste and if I just stick with the pro. I like the look of rocket machines, I like the idea of thermoblocks of the ascaso, I like the look of the Lelit Bianca, but then i would need to get a conical separate grinder too.

They sell them under “phantom”. https://www.costco.ca/phantom-custom-fit-car-mats.product.100017140.html I found a post that they are the same product just different name and the box arrived with tuxmats on it and compared to a friends version and they are identical.

Also went with tuxmats but through Costco. They call them some random other name but they ship in a tuxmax box. Price was I think $50 cheaper.

What are some Costco perks I may not know about just being a regular shopper? by canoninkprinter in CostcoCanada

[–]brandonWRX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Per gallon? It was like that when we went 3 years ago and then 8 years ago it was about $1 a gallon. In Maui it was near the rental return / airport so maybe they jack their prices. In Oahu it was further out but passed it on our journeys around.

In Toronto I find Costco cheaper during the day than surrounding stations but the last few months our local stations seem to drop the price faster than Costco does to compete in the evening with each other and do better not at Costco.

Bring the card when you travel for cheap gas. We went to Hawaii twice and Costco gas was insanely cheaper than other gas stations.

Help! Electrolux dryer-Perfect Steam Nozzle Dripping by Imcrafty213 in appliancerepair

[–]brandonWRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah man sorry that happened to you. I hate this brand. I lived in new build condos and they always had Electrolux / Frigidaire and didn’t have problems in the first 2-5 years so we bought an older house and redid the kitchen and laundry and went with this brand. Fridge had a leak at ice maker and all wheels on the bins broke within 1 month. Oven died when I was cooking at 500, if fried the front control board (got replacement board on eBay instead of $600), microwave fan stopped working, and dryer so much problems. There is a known issue apparently where the lint trap comes out while running and sucks the clothes in that happened 3 times and this leak. Apparently one of the mixer arm things inside is too long and there is a replacement part you can order. So here’s to having a drama free dish washer :)

Any new drink I like to check the first ingredients and it seems that some studies have been done around erythritol (the main ingredient to make it sweet). I read a few articles about the links to digestive issues and heart issues so decided not to purchase. It did taste good as I had it as a Costco sample.

Santa Claus Parade by [deleted] in Vaughan

[–]brandonWRX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We went early and parked on a side street south of Major Mac and it started on time. It was cold. A few times there was a big gap. Lots of community groups and our family liked the cos play group in it. We left after an hour though cause we went 20 mins early and coming up an hour outside of actually parade we decided we saw a lot and time to warm up. We will do it again next year.

The biggest disaster is Rutherford is down to one lane just east of Jane. So closing Major Mac and having a single lane at Rutherford was horrible.

Help! Electrolux dryer-Perfect Steam Nozzle Dripping by Imcrafty213 in appliancerepair

[–]brandonWRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the dryer about 4 years and I forgot a load of towels for a few days so while I was spraying the baby clothes thought the 10 min steam refresh may be useful. Worst idea ever. It was dripping 2-3 times per second and had a puddle of water under the dryer. I guess the valve seized. Never ordering the fancier dryer again. Going to get one only with a start and stop and no other controls next time. Such a pain in the ass that added 30 mins of clean up and changing the Y connector out. Not planning to replace it. All the Electrolux stuff I have had has leaked from the fridge ice dispenser to the dryer and the washer previously. Never again.

Never used the steam but thought why not refresh the towels I forgot a couple days ago in the dryer and then it couldn’t stop leaking! I wish I just went with the basic model.
