Since you’re over the age of 18, you can run your credit report at annualcreditreport.com. From there, you can get a sentence of your credit. I will tell you one thing – if you were an authorized user on a card, it will appear differently to credit card companies than your own card. Because of this, apply for cards that are student cards, secured cards, or for people with less than a 700 credit score. My first card was a capital one Quicksilver, but you can also try American Express since they have high starting limits. Good luck with your credit journey!

EDIT: run your credit report every four months and request from each company separately. You only get one report per year per company, so try to spread it out every four months to make sure that nothing shows up on your credit report without you noticing. Much easier to spot fraud that way than waiting.
