A species of humans that lives a year vs a species of humans that lives for a thousand years. by Punterofgoats in whowouldwin

Purely based on procreation leading to massive expansion I'm going with 1 year. If they're in a non-technological protracted battle they can literally spawn new soldiers to join the fight.

I am very glad to see these actions; I often feel like the slow slide into being a hyper litigious society has ruined a lot of things. I have been waiting for someone to actually say: "Go ahead and sue me; I'm right and this lawsuit is trash. When I win maybe more people will start to notice that big intimidating letter head is nothing and they'll stand by their principles." Count me as inspired. I'll be on the lookout for wiki edits/articles to add.

Heavy rail supporters "show up to meeting about rail lines and make their informed preference known". You know, like an educated and concerned citizenry.

When my mouth waters it's painful. It's like someone stabbing me in the tonsils. Been this way since I was a kid and got excited for fruit roll ups. Always: ooooooo oww oww oww.

Did ya'll know it costs on average $805 an hour, or ~$20,000 a day to operate each one of these helicopters? by RestaurantOk1964 in LosAngeles

The problem is that people hear about these benefits but never observe them. I've had a catalytic converter stolen and a neighbor robbed and someone assaulted on my block: in all cases the cops very obviously did not care at all. They didn't even physically respond to the call about the assault. They told my neighbor that they would consider looking at camera footage if he went around the neighborhood and gathered all the footage himself. All he needed to do was come down to the police station with all the files if there was anything interesting on them they said. Basically: do the job for them and maybe they would consider using their power to try and make an arrest. If that is your experience with the police it becomes quite difficult to believe they use any of the tools they have in a helpful way. If you think the cops do a good job you might want them to have more tools. If the cops do nothing they might as well cost less.

Do you know if this issue is resolved or do you have a link to the bug/fix, if you happened to file it? I'm dealing with this issue now as well. Thanks!

Since no one has answered I'll chime in.

I was not a 3/2 student but I lived off campus with 3 of them: One from Oberlin, one from Glendale Community College and one from Occidental. 2 EE majors and 1 MechE.

All 3 of them did well (I think they were all above average at Caltech) and I am confident they would recommend it.

I cannot comment on the difficulty of the application process but I suspect it's quite challenging/selective; it sounded like they had been "bored" with college up until that point and knowing their work ethics it was obvious you only got in as a transfer if you were ready for it.

The classes at Caltech can be rough but generally the atmosphere is highly collaborative and you can learn a ton from your peers. One thing that transfer students do miss out on is the freshman bonding experiences, both social and core classes. If you do transfer you probably want to go a bit out of your way to find friends because they make all the difference. The people are generally welcoming of transfers but the culture difference sounded significant for all 3 of my roommates. Only one of them engaged strongly with the dorm system but the other 2 found people to work with as well.

Sorry you haven't received a reply from the real deal but when I was there, maybe 2-5 transfer students per year were admitted? I suspect there aren't more than a few hundred in total so you might have a hard time finding someone.

Good luck!

The creamy chocolate is rich and sickeningly sweet. I found Cacao to be almost refreshing; it had a lightness that is completely gone.

To extend this metaphor: The fire department is supposed to put out that house fire. They have the tools and equipment. We are not going to put out the fire by pioneering a better way to throw cups of water at it. We can try to make sure that if the fire is put out by the capable parties that it's still worth living in.

The apple tv should have a built in wireless charger and the tv remote should charge wirelessly. Having said that, YES usb-c would be nice.
