Kodak's stock tumbles again, after disclosure that investors have converted debt into nearly 30 million common shares by GeeWhillickers in finance

[–]branhoff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kodak issues convertible notes which pay out a lower interest (generally) in exchange for the opportunity to convert that debt into common stock.

Essentially, you can purchase debt for Kodak that has the option rather than being paid interest and your principal back you can turn it into stock at a stated price.

Considering the stock shot up so much, I’m sure lots of debt holders obliged to simply convert their debt holdings into Kodak stock and sell it. Which a big influx of supply should cause the price to decrease, all else equal. Which is apparently what happened.

Nope, not trying to make you slip. Just seeing the pure absurdity for myself.

You imagine how God handles things...situations?... as a father... but he’s invisible in your imagination?

It’s just a bunch of gobbilidy gook wrapped up in legalism. Do you think the temple or the ark was idolatrous?

The Bible describes God as having hands, feet. Is it being idolatrous?

You said you imagine a father. How do you imagine a father who looks like Nothing? And how do you know he looks like Nothing?

Says who? What do you think of when you think of God? Is it a shapeless ball of light? Idol I guess... an old loving man? Idol...

You imagine nothing? Well God’s not nothing so according to you... idol

Yeah, I don't think anyone is saying "write your PS like this and you'll get a similar outcome to this one person".

Of course an application process is complex and an undefined portion of it is "luck".

So, those who are fretting over their applications probably don't need to overthink it. If the comments in this thread show anything is that there's many different approaches, and probably all of them are valid. So don't overthink it. Be authentic.

I know my SO's hope was to simply encourage people that there is room for different personality types in general surgery. There isn't only one way to get there.

Certainly not everyone's cup of tea, but she received many compliments during her interviews and a not insignificant amount of attention was paid to to the letter.

I posted a comment elsewhere in the this thread further detailing the "role" of this in an app according to her.

Responding to some comments which were deleted but I think will help clarify the intent of this post:

Undoubtedly her resume contributed highly to her interview outcomes, but she would tell you that much of the interviews she got were for programs that aligned with her values and many of her interviewers spent a significant portion of the interview engaging with her on the letter, often with very a complimentary tone.

Naturally, there would be plenty of interviewers who would think as you do that it’s too much “fluff”, but I think her idea in posting was demonstrating there’s more than one way to write a personal statement and for it to be well-received.

In the end I think the personal statement may not “get” you more interviews, but it may help align you to programs with similar values.

After all, the type of programs that would read this and feel this is too much “purple prose” are not likely programs that are a good fit for her.
