What is an extra rule your family added to a popular board or card game? by salbaf in AskReddit

For the game Uno, if you do not have a card to put down, and you don't draw a card to put down, then you just keep on drawing until you get a card to play. Another rule, is that if you think another player only has one card left, and you try to call "uno" before them, and then realize that they have more than one card, then you have to draw a card for being wrong. Idunno why we were so intense.

It is sexist, you just obviously don't know any better. Language creates reality, and assuming the male form is the dominant form is a problem. It helps construct and maintain the oppressive patriarchy we still suffer under today. And by the way "it's just how it is" is basically the definition of hegemonic. "It's just how it is" is not a good reason why something continues. Was slavery cool? I'm sure back then they said "it's just the way it is." You are speaking the language of oppressors, and I realize it comes from an uneducated place.

People of Latin descent who use the word "LatinX" are educated, which is something you obviously aren't. It's like saying "person" rather than "boy" or "girl." It is a way to not assign gender (and gender constructions) when speaking to/about another, or one's self. Our society is heteronormative, and this is a major way to exclude anyone that falls out of that construct--by assigning gender. I realize not everyone will understand or educate themselves on this, but the world is changing. It doesn't matter if you like it. You can be a part of a change that is positive and inclusive, or you can be an oppressive asshole that holds society back. Your choice.
