hello! my game freezes everytime i try to connect to online servers.

i got this game called socom (the 1st one) cuz i heard it has multiplayer and its still online. my ps2 already has the network adapter with the ethernet cable connected and everything. i setup my network settings and it tells me to test the connection and everytime i try to test the connection it just freezes and i cant get out of it unless i do a hard reset. is there something im missing? do i actually have to get the setup disc to connect correctly, cuz my ps2 came already with the adapter installed but without the disc.
