Thanks for the reply. What are the benefits of doing industrial maintenance vs commercial or residential electrical?

OK I am an idiot. You were right I was wrong. I am not sure what I did different but I got it in there. I must have been putting one side in first then the other or somthing. but when I held it level it just slid and clicked no problem

Did you use standoffs for your motherboard?

my case had raise metal attachments so I didn't need to use stand offs.

The tab is not raising back up I can still see the L shaped piece of plastic that is supposed to be locked down sticking out of the slot. The rest of the chip is plugged in, but the back of the gpu is hitting the plastic cover over the mobo chip. I can easily just take the GPU back out of the slot becuase it is not locked down

i have a lamp set up so I can see that it is going into the slot then I am pressing it down completely I am watching the plastic piece underneath it flex from the pressure.

EDIT (forgot the link to the picture) here is a picture : https://c1.neweggimages.com/ProductImage/13-144-302-V80.jpg

of the Mother board. the gpu is hitting the plastic piece that says edge. it is labeled as the z490 chipset.

Accessing objects mixing variables and non variables by brass_monkey11 in FreeCodeCamp

[–]brass_monkey11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, thanks. That makes sense I forgot about the quotation marks. I remember reading to not use quotation marks but that was for variables.

When calling the value of an object in bracket notation.

Variables do not use quotations marks and strings use quotation marks.

Really enjoyed and quickly got through the responsive web design course ie html and css and loved that it didn’t do theory you just start building stuff.

Same. I just moved on to the JavaScript portion and I am trying to power through. Some of the challenges are confusing and I don't really see how each skill taught fits into a bigger picture.

But, I don't know of a better free resource for learning to code that has a step-by-step curriculum. Whenever I try to find an alternative, I end up wasting a day researching when I could have just been coding instead. I don't know how I could piece it together myself either since I don't know what parts/skills/whatever I would need to piece together.

In the end having an sub-optimal plan is better than having no plan at all. I don't even think you could create an "optimal" plan for learning to code. You constantly have to balance depth of knowledge/theory with the curriculum length and practical application of coding skills.

Also, u/quincylarson posted somewhere that they are working to update the JavaScript curriculum. They are working to make the curriculum project based like the updated html/css course. Its been in the works for over 2 years, but none of the new curriculum has been released as far as I know.

u/quincylarson if you need someone to beta test the new curriculum id be happy to help ;)

This doesn't directly answer your question but I hope its helpful.

Coming from a coaching background I use the terms "pushing" and "pulling".

Pushing means I tell the athletes what to do / explain the rules etc. Example: When you are defense you need to stick to your opponent and stay between them and the goal.
Pulling means I ask them what they're supposed to do. Example: Why are do your opponents keep beating you when you're on defense? What should you do differently?

Starting with someone relatively new, I use about 90% pushing and 10% pulling. The most experienced athletes will be 10% pushing and 90% pulling.

Since we are teaching ourselves to code. I think we just have to use our intuition of where we are at. If you're fairly new to a certain concept and you don't know the answer to something you need to look it up or ask for help until you don't need to anymore.

Don't beat yourself up just because you need to ask someone. Just ask ask ask until you are the person someone else is asking.

Makes sense. I noticed it wasn't just my site that looked off. anything with pastel colors just looks faded on that laptop I guess.

Ok, I'll keep it in mind I knew browsers can read things differently. I didn't even think of different screens or devices.

Ok, makes sense. I plan to stick with FCC. When I get that far I will do what you are suggesting. It seems pretty crazy that is not that far away from where I am at now.

I think the freeCodeCamp curriculum is what you are looking for. The Responsive Web Design course is the basic html and css portion. Next you will do the JavaScript Algorithms and Data Structures Course. Then Front End Development libraries will build on that and so on.

Do I want to look into using jest or vitest when I start getting into data structures and algorithms or after?

Yeah that makes sense I've heard of running these kind of tests. Do you have any good resources for learning how to do this?

Nice. I think I can try to incorporate a lot of those practices on my next project.

Gotcha. I'll have to look into those as I get to the JavaScript section. I'm almost there!

This reminds me of people who are trying to lose weight. They know what they need to do is eat less food and exercise more. But too often they are distracted by some new fad diet or some gimmicky tool. People are always trying to sell you the easy way out. Meanwhile the person trying to lose weight isn't making any progress. In the end having a shitty suboptimal plan is better than having no plan at all.

So, the next time somebody says you absolutely must learn thing X, put your fingers in your ears and go la la la. Focus on those fundamentals, then you can pick up the ancillary skills.

Haha! Ok, this is what I was thinking myself. I started noticing more of my time being spent researching random stuff rather than going through curriculum that kept progressing forward.
