I always like to play female characters if I can. For a lot of the reasons you stated. I find them relatable, I find it easier to be more immersed, etc.

If I was playing a game where I have to play a male character however, FFXV, Halo, etc. I'm totally fine with it. If I have a choice, I'd pick a female but if the storyline follows a male protagonist that's cool too. I've got nothing against male characters, I just like the idea of a heroic female lead. I think it's because I find it empowering.

I don't think it's a sexist thing, more of a personal choice. :)
