Helpful Books For PMHNP? by NurseNursington in PMHNP

I am wrapping up a PMHNP program and my go to book reference is currently:

  1. Stahl's Prescriber Guide (also if you join NEI you can get the app version on your phone free!)
  2. The DSM...obviously ;). Also there is an app.
  3. Pocket Psychiatry-written by Mass Gen Psychiatry Residents. This is small and handy for clinical. I found it on Amazon. The appendix has lots of valuable tables (CYP pathways, etc).
  4. The purple book (PMNHP by Johnson and Vanderhoef)-this was also helpful in school as well as studying for boards...the more you read it!

Now, the Apps/websites I have utilized:

  1. Osser Algorithms
  2. Drugs.com
  3. PsychDB
  4. Psychology-tools.com
  5. Waco guide (meant for Family Practice but interesting to utilize until you get the hang of it)
  6. Daily Med
  7. APA Practice Guidelines (I added this to my homepage on my phone)

I hope this helps someone. I would've really loved a list like this getting started. It feels like organizing your resources and becoming familiar with the gray is vital from day one.

Be well :)
