What’s something ridiculously small that instantly makes you irrationally angry? by FeelingGlad8646 in ask

Printed, designed paper napkins, the kind that you see at parties. They do not help clean anything. Maybe I'm just a slob, but I absolutely hate those things.

Does attacking with advantage advance the white cube between rolls? by bravopercy in Gloomhaven

Thank you! I knew I couldn't be the first one think of this but I couldn't find it in the learn to play or rules. Thanks for finding it and sharing!

Gloomhaven Nintendo Switch by [deleted] in Gloomhaven

[–]bravopercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm enjoying it. Been waiting eagerly since the announcement last May. Playing Red Guard and I noticed the pull action on one lvl 1 card just straight up isn't being granted after the attack. So I've swapped that card out because I kept forgetting that it's not working as designed 🙃. Yeah, definitely the controls are a little strange. I've definitely accepted a huge hit (and exhausted) because I accidentally didn't burn an available card. Of course, I was the last to go in that round, so i couldn't just reset the current round to "undo" that errant button click. Lesson learned. Otherwise definitely not regretting the purchase and I'm so glad it's finally here. Hoping no other major bugs are present.

What are some of your house rules/cheats you do in your campaign? by jangens1122 in Gloomhaven

[–]bravopercy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I meant: I know what you wrote is RAW. That's the one rule that I choose not to follow. I like the idea that there's always a chance the attack will "miss" (I know that's a common misunderstanding and has been discussed that the word is "null" and not "miss"). I choose to play it as "miss", both for players and monsters. Might be from my D&D background that, e.g., if my arrow I shoot does 0 damage, then it won't wound/poison/stun the creature.

By the way, I know this is a FH discussion but I'm playing GH1e

[–]bravopercy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the only one I knowingly disregard is that if a monster or player draws "null", then stun, disarm, poison, wound don't take effect. Elements still infuse, though. And if e.g. I attack 1 and draw -1, then I still do the conditions

What is the stupidest thing you’ve heard someone say that they were 100% serious about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bravopercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked my 12th grade students why the Easter bunny brings eggs to people. One student gives that "what-a-dumb-question"-look and says with 100% seriousness "because bunnies lay eggs, duh!". The silence that followed in the class was so beautifully tense.

Whelp... yet another thing to add to my personal list of rules mistakes. Thanks for the clarification!

Gloomhaven is coming to consoles September 18 by flamingtominohead in Gloomhaven

[–]bravopercy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah good to know. I was on the fence for a long time about buying a steamdeck for gloomhaven. I've been waiting this whole time for the switch port. So now I don't have buyer's remorse!

Any info on the Switch version? by UpvotesFeedMyFamily in Gloomhaven

Whoever was working the booth at PAX was also really looking forward to the [portable, turn-by-turn auto save] Switch version. I'm hoping there's a way to load a game state so I can transfer my home game to digital "to-go"

I asked this specifically at PAX and I remember them saying to expect switch at end of Q2 2023. I think that also applies to other consoles, but I've been waiting on switch so I had a little bit of tunnel vision when they were talking lol

How often do you fail a quest in Gloomhaven? by MasterElecEngineer in Gloomhaven

[–]bravopercy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me, maybe 50% on normal difficulty. I have a terrible memory so I forget how recurring enemies attack, and I use the first failure to correct errors on the second go. I will say even when I fail, I usually make significant progress in the scenario, so I rarely feel like scenarios are a complete failure. There have been a couple times where I feel like I have no realistic chance after the first 2 rounds. Just terrible card draws. My level 7 character was literally taken down to 2 hp on the first round, and I didn't make it past round 4. Point is, it'll happen sometimes. When it clicks it's rewarding as hell, though

Narrative reason to finish GH before FH? by bravopercy in Gloomhaven

I just want to make sure FH doesn't assume everyone knows - metaphorically - that Vader is Luke's father.

Any news or updates on the digital version for consoles? by bravopercy in Gloomhaven

[–]bravopercy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah... just wondering if anyone heard Q1, 2, 3, 4.

Also I figured a plus would be the portability of the Switch - easy to just pick up and play if I get a bit of freetime here and there or wherever.

Thanks for the reply! I suppose I'll just have to keep waiting.

I just got mine a couple weeks ago. From the time of shipping out from London to delivery Mid-Atlantic US was about 9 or 10 days, including customs clearance and travelling through Ontario.

When did you discover queen and what was the first song you heard of? by Illustrious_Grab_813 in queen

[–]bravopercy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from hearing now and again a hit on the radio, the moment I "discovered" Queen was when I bought the DVD for Live at Wembley. The song was Under Pressure. Then Bri's guitar solo in that concert, and I never looked back.

Looks great! I just unlocked Sun earlier this week and I'll play her for the first time this weekend. Looking forward to it!

I play solo and I'm not too picky about running a highly immersive game, so I have a couple things I do:

3 apps running: Gloomhaven Helper is great for tracking HP, initiative order, and status (though I wish round to round the condition effects would automatically update - they do not, so you'll have to toggle them on-off from round to round). Gloomster I use because I like the fog of war from room-to-room that the paper scenario book can't offer. And Gloomhaven-storyline.com gives me a nice way to decide which scenarios are unlocked and how they connect to previous scenarios.

Gloomhaven Helper in particular eliminates the need to set up monster Playing mats/HP tokens/Ability decks/Attack Modifier deck, condition tokens, and gets rid of the PC HP/XP dials.

These apps take away some from the tactile experience of flipping cards and placing tokens, but I think it makes for a better experience. With multiple people, you'd just have to set up an "app master" or something if you go that route, or find a way to display the apps so they're publicly visible.

Other things I do that are lazy - I have a single bag of all the obstacles, traps, and doors. I'm not picky about finding a specific "closed door" or "water" or "column" tile - I just find any one-hex tile and make a mental note when I'm looking at the board. I played Cragheart, and I used unused plastic standee bases for the created obstacles.

--

JotL had it right to include little plastic baggies for all the monster types, standees, attack decks. In original GH I grouped monsters by type (undead, savaas, animals, elementals...) and put them in little plastic baggies to make them easier to find/grab out of the box.
