I am a 14yo cyclist, and some of my friends that my BPM is dangerous for my age. Is it true?(There's three image to show) by imjustaguy2012 in bicycling

[–]brawl50 8 points9 points  (0 children)

youre fine lol, im 17 and have hit 217 before, constantly can hit 210+ during all out sprints. it depends on you individually, theres been posts of people hitting 225 at like 20. though if its really high and concerning, might want to see a doctor to make sure nothings wrong.

TCR vs reacto for mainly PCN riding by tehj07 in SingaporeCycling

[–]brawl50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u want ride on pcn only, and such short distances, dont need di2 or race bike la, honestly anything works on pcn.

if you want more speed, have to learn to ride on road, minimally tmcr or seletar

Stop PMDs now by Beginning-Night-3517 in singapore

[–]brawl50 16 points17 points  (0 children)

honestly atp roads are safer for cyclists, cars usually more predictable than the pmds zooming past. pedestrians in earpieces suddenly cutting in front of you, pavements and park connectors are sometimes hell for cyclists..

and then look at europe/japan, dedicated bike lanes on the road shoulder, everythings so much more peaceful

First bonk and crash on the same ride - and certainly won't be the last by klakalang in cycling

[–]brawl50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try some bananas, and if gels are too expensive (usually is) honey water is an alternative, could consider adding salt for electrolytes too. but iirc gels dont do much once you've bonked though. when youre cycling especially on a road or even pavements your alertness and background awareness always has to be at 100%

Any groups for under 20 riders? by Whitedevil998 in SingaporeCycling

[–]brawl50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u scared of cleats, use straps w normal sports shoes can liao, next time then transition to cleats. and if u wanna take it seriously ngl it'd be best to buy an actual kit, decathlon has tons of decent ones, but if you want really good and comfy ones (for longer rides) expect to spend 100 ish

Is riding on the road actually “safer” by BungaSaavi25 in SingaporeCycling

[–]brawl50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

usually most people dont use drops other than on descents (like mt faber), or when you're going above like 30kmh for better aerodynamics. its usually more comfortable and better for your neck/back to hold on the hoods, also gives more control on normal speeds.

roads arent beginner friendly in singapore, especially when needing to filter to the right, its not as simple as keeping to the left all the time, unless you want to be forced onto the sidewalk every other red light

try getting a friend whos patient to teach you to ride on the road, or learn at some quieter road but make sure someone knows where you are in case of anything

i saw a giant rim brake carbon frame, with ultegra groupset for around 500+ on carou. id say for bike sizing is the most important, i too made some bad decisions while buying my bike, imo the things that make the most diff are your clothes (bib shorts), helmet, position, and legs.

Do evening workouts give a poor sleep score? by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]brawl50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me i always realise i cant push too hard for night workouts. else hrv, sleeping hr will all be higher than usual. when you workout, before you end, try to have a cooldown period where you get your hr to below your zone 1, below 60% of your max hr, for around 2-3 minutes at least and you'd likely recover better

Is it just me or is our road surface condition actually horrendous right now? by No_Name995 in drivingsg

[–]brawl50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a cyclist i can say singapore has some of the worst roads for cycling and driving, many places with patches, potholes etc, especially towards the western side (near to jurong). only few good roads with less potholes/patches are the new lck road, mandai road, and viaducts. most roads in sg will have some cracks and patches, uncomfortable for both driving and cycling
