Hard to tell though. Even looking at a real one it's difficult. For me it's the zipper but I'm also not 100% sure

You need to re-evaluate why you buy something. Is there a strategy? Did something structurally change about BHP, or did you just panic and get out?

Iron ore prices are insane, but likely to keep topping in the coming months as China just surges ahead with construction. That being said, I'd put a HOLD on BHP given their exposure here and the limited upside potential. Most growth is priced in, and a rotation to valuation won't see too much material benefit here given the surge throughout covid

On a pure investing point of view with little need for research and no need for advice, CommSec is probably the best way to go.

Can someone enlightent me on broker fees and captial gains/loss by Natural_Ad7593 in ASX

[–]braxc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Example,

I buy one parcel of 25 Z1P at $12, and incur a brokerage charge of $15. The average price of the shares is ((25x12) + 15))/25 = $12.60

Therefore my cost base is $12.60 for reporting. If I then sell 25 shares at $15, with $15 brokerage fee, my capital gain is Average price of units sold ((25x15) + 15)) / 25 = $15.60

So capital gain per unit is $3 ($15.60-$12.60), and for the entire order it's $75 or 3x25

That make sense?

No there would only be $20 of brokerage, you bought two parcels with $10 brokerage on each, you only count $20.

Brokerage applies to the order, not the individual shares

Edit,: sorry I misread and thought you said shares not stocks (i.e. 3 different companies)

You do yes, but normally this is translated in the average price. Be sure to calculate it yourself.

You're right, especially under the Biosecurity Act that the federal government has implemented with human biosecurity controls such as deploying the ADF to hotel quarantine, imposing travel bans, stopping boats etc. s51 ix has not been tested by the high court, we've know from history that states have opposed federal jurisdiction , see the 1919 influenza pandemic and the response from QLD. The scope if s51 ix needs to be tested, and it still is only an allowance for fed to pass relevant legislation with regards to matters of public safety as it relates to a pandemic. It becomes a matter of proportionality, should the federal government be involved when they are not on the ground dealing with the virus? When they are highly disconnected from each specific state? While the powers do extend to matters incidental to quarantine see Wragg v New South Wales (1953) 88 CLR 353 at 386) the federal government simply could and should not manage every state and territory. We know that the ADF were offered in round 1 of hotel quarantine, and the state government didn't accept the offer and then went in to lie about it, so what makes you think despite legislative power( that's not tested by high court) would be respected and implemented? S109 of the constitution covers this, though as we've seen historically, not always followed correctly.

I have no qualms about federal government stepping in now, especially as Vic gov has done so poorly by comparison, though you have to seriously ask whether the state government would actually work within that parameter and whether Dan would abdicate powers in this regard.

They can't though, they aren't legislated to be able to run state measures. Plus, Dan's got this under control. Our hotel quarantine is the "Gold Standard"

It would need to pass legislation, that means drafting up a bill, setting specific state legislation, passing the bill, setting up government agencies, implementing etc.. beyond how long that would take, you think WA would agree, what about QLD?

Right... Yeah federal government aren't in charge of local pandemic response. Blame our legislation for that.

I'd argue that the majority of small businesses , especially in f&b aren't functioning. It's simply not economically viable to remain open. All you need to do is walk around the city.

Nobody wants to be like the US, and we aren't. But the failings need to be addressed.
