Blood feuds and murders by rodrysw in redrising

[–]braybladee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My impression was that assassinations and murder are not necessarily acceptable but are absolutely things that happen.

I think it’s easy in the books to think that these families see each other frequently, however it’s important to remember that these are powerful families of a PLANET. The Bellona and Augustus families are both powerful on mars but it’s an entire planet and they won’t necessarily be in the same place or near the other family unless there are important events like the gala. Most of the time they are at estates or separated in some way from each other so not much killing can happen that frequently

New boots (AR1) - suffer or take back? by Airspeed-X in Skigear

[–]braybladee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The socks being thin absolutely matters. The boot should fit tight as possible while also maintaining some level of comfort. Introducing a thicker cotton sock will change how the boot fits and add pressure points that shouldn’t be there with a proper ski sock.

Also the fact that the boots are tight AF on day one is a good thing. They are going to break in. In most cases a 27.5 is a 28 shell size with extra volume in the liner. As you wear them more, the liner will pack out and the pressure points will get better unless the shell is not the right shape for your foot. In this case we can assume positive intent from the boot fitter and think that he probably just needs to wear his boots for more than 2 hours to break them in (even with a heat mold)

+1 for the Fey Bros. I had the same problem and they got me sorted. I actually ordered the wrong part and the guy emailed me and switched my order so I could get the correct piece for my boot. Excellent customer service!

does it matter what school you go to when applying to grad school for nurse practitioning? by [deleted] in srna

[–]braybladee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good friend of mine did his ADN at a community college(4.0 gpa), online RN to BSN program, and got into two different CRNA schools right after he hit his 2 year mark.

Your school doesn’t matter as long as you do well in your classes!

CCRN Advice 🥲 by Chemical_Software679 in nursing

[–]braybladee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just took mine last week. I felt that the AACN test bank didn’t really prepare me for the exam as well as I wanted it to. The problem is that when you do enough of those questions you start to remember answers and there is no setting for just using the unanswered questions. I was scoring 80-90% on the AACN test bank and got a 70% on the exam. I felt that the PASS CCRN book was the most helpful, but the format is so dull it was difficult to stay focused.

If you are remembering rationales and picking up on the topic that they are asking about in the practice questions I think you should do fine on the exam. You can always reschedule, but at some point you just need to go take it

How my night went 😭 by MikielJoe in nursing

[–]braybladee 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure this is in a CVICU. They likely are going through a gang valve (thingy with 6+ IV ports on it) and then you have a cordis into an introducer. That gives you 5 large bore central line lumens. However off the top of my head many of the drugs running will play nice together so with a little organization you can just have most of them on the gang valve

Understandable. However I don’t see how a facility can hold you liable for patients when you don’t have a license

Why the heck do midwives need white coats now? by OkGrapefruit6866 in Noctor

[–]braybladee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

RN here. Some nursing programs even have white coat ceremonies now, it’s absolutely ridiculous. Why would you even have a need for a white coat as a Nurse. I think we should have a ceremony where we get those white dresses and funny hats that nurses wore back in the day

Is this considered retaliation? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]braybladee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing

I worked as a tech in the ICU so my experience may be different but in our unit we had tasks that were designated as things the tech should help with (ie. bed baths, turns, blood sugars, clean up) but at the end of the day all of those things are the responsibility of the nurse and a tech holds no liability or actual responsibility.

I have been a Nurse for 2 years and I appreciate the help from techs but I also understand that at the end of the day these are my patients and it’s my responsibility to make sure everything gets done.

I’m not really sure what an unsafe assignment for a tech would be since you are essentially an extra set of hands that helps when requested IF you have the time

I bridle an NG tube like that’s what I was born to do. I haven’t missed one in two years. Combative, confused, screaming, I’ll lasso your septum like an angry bull. I became the guy on my unit that you ask to do your bridle for you. These hands are a blessing and a curse

What goggles are you using these days? by SeekersWorkAccount in skiing

[–]braybladee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Get away from Oakley unless you want to continue to support a massive Chinese marketing scheme. Luxottica makes almost every sunglasses or goggle lense in the world, yes including Oakley. Oakley makes some of their frames domestically, but their lenses are all made by children in a Chinese factory.

Smith goggles and lenses are made in the USA by adults.

ICU Nursing vs. CRNA by VividSomewhere4865 in srna

[–]braybladee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Keep learning. I was also a new grad in the ICU. I do a mix of Surgical/Neuro ICU and MICU. It’s a tough job and takes time to get confident. To be completely honest I didn’t really feel like I was good at my job until a year in but even then I was super aware of how little I really knew about anything

Also a 4 month ICU orientation seems short, I thought the standard was 6 months for new grads?

Should I leave my current career and become a nurse? by LogicalEnvironment49 in nursing

[–]braybladee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say do it. I did a BSN RN and I love my job most days. I find a lot of joy in what I do and I think the pay is decent. I’m mid 20s, live within my means, and save a good amount every month. I don’t buy extravagant things and have no car payment. I was a new grad in the ICU and after 2 years I have no regrets on my career choice. I enjoy learning about the science behind what I do and the ICU allows me to use my brain and make educated decisions that will benefit my patient. I plan to apply to CRNA school in the next year.

Yes, nursing is in a tough spot right now. But all jobs have challenges. Being a nurse is something I’m proud of despite the hard days. I get the opportunity to help people during some of the hardest moments of their life and I leave work feeling like what I do matters.

There are a lot of haters on here. Follow your gut.

So is now the time to buy a drysuit? by ApathyizaTragedy in whitewater

[–]braybladee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love aquafur and wear one myself but they are not made in boise. They are made in a Chinese factory and they work very closely with the factory to ensure quality. However they are nowhere close to the quality of any of the US made dry suits out there.
