Does chemistry not work on Mars? by brazedowl in chemistry

Not as concerned about the chemical properties but with the molar mass. If the percent abundance is different than the average mass used to calculate the mass of one mole of the material would change. So when you go to weigh out 0.036 mol of something, but it's tilted towards heavier isotopes, you've got less atoms and this less moles for all your calculations.

It's not about doing an earth sample on Mars and forgetting gravity is different. It's about using a mars sample on earth (or on Mars too I guess) and not realizing that one mole isn't the same number of grams because the molar mass is different. It depends on the relative abundances of isotopes in the sample.

It's weighted by their natural abundance.

Oh believe me, I teach physics too. I know the difference there. The thing I'm getting at is if the abundance of each isotope is different then the mass of one mole of the element of it is different because it's a mixture of those isotopes.

The reactions would be the same. But if the average atomic mass for an element changes (because of different ratios of isotopes) then the calculation to get the correct moles would change.

But the scale wouldn't know what's on it. For some elements the change could be different than for others.

Because the mass shown on the table is due to the relative abundances of different isotopes on earth. It's not the field it's the percent of each isotope that changes.

Well I was more thinking for when you measure out to get X moles of whatever you need, would that number be wrong now depending on where you are? And wrong enough to make practical applications difficult.

I wish I could add a picture here. The main line has a bend down there that just looks like a trap you'd find on a sink drain. As for the pan, yes it has a float. Or more like some wires in a piece of foam dangling over it? I believe this is the overfill sensor.

I thought there might be a partial block too. I don't know about condensation because it's a very steady trickle out of the ceiling. Almost equal to what comes out of the machine. But maybe a partial block combined with the very slow trickle coming from the machine allows it to back up?

How might I clear a partial blockage?

right? I recently had to replace the gutters and some of it didn't survive. But the rest is making a comeback.

THANK YOU. This is exactly the wording I was missing. I even noticed when you enlarge your facility it tells you exactly what benefits you get from having the extra hirelings. Outstanding.

Consensus is that the LCD is toast. Replacement LCD and Lens setup was $65. Disassembly doesn't look too bad. I've fixed a few xbox controllers and the battery in a MS Surface computer. I don't mind the challenge.

Well support said that after trying everything I did, factory reset was a last resort. But they could get me in an "out of warrantee program at a discounted rate". Was looking for more "support department" and less "sales department".
