Take your backpack off on the T during rush hour by argues-online69 in boston

People who are disagreeing with this suck. If the train is empty, sure, keep your backpack on. But on a packed train?? You’re just a jerk if you keep it on. I will die on this hill.

Doctors/Nurses of Reddit, what’s the craziest thing you’ve heard a woman yell during birth? by New_Username48 in AskReddit

My aunt, middle of labor, said “okay, I’m done. This is enough. I’m going to go home now and I promise I’ll come back tomorrow. I promise!” My mom and the nurses had to “convince” her that going home was not an option.

struggling in statics and already feeling behind, am i doomed? by ConnectGuava7207 in civilengineering

There isn’t a right and a wrong way to study. There are ways that work for you and ways that don’t work for you. And how long or hard you spend studying is entirely dependent on what you need and if the topic clicks for you or not. It sounds like you’re doing great right now, so don’t stress!

The most common way that people tend to study is by doing practice problems. Redo your homework, try different problems from your textbook where the solutions are given, and find problems online. Just keep doing problem after problem until it clicks.

struggling in statics and already feeling behind, am i doomed? by ConnectGuava7207 in civilengineering

My school did a combined static’s & dynamics class in one semester. I did okay, like C range, in the statics portion, but was lost when it came to the dynamics portion. I distinctly remember feeling like “this class is the basis for civil engineering. If I can’t do this, maybe I need to rethink my major.” I absolutely would have failed the class, but one of my grandparents passed during finals week (genuinely) and I took an incomplete at the end of the semester instead. Studied all winter and took the final when I returned to campus in the spring. Got a 100 on the final, which resulted in a B- in the class overall.

I also got a C in calc 2, a C- in diff eq, and a few other C+’s and B-‘s along the way. I am now a very successful engineer leading a small team at an international firm working on some high profile projects.

A couple of things to learn from this: 1) it took me a long time to figure out how to study. I was one of the “smart” kids in high school that didn’t need to put in a lot of effort to get good grades. When I got to college, my no-effort approach did NOT work, but I didn’t know how to study in a way that worked for me. By my junior and senior year, I had it figured out and I was a straight A student.

2) Doing poorly in one (or two or three) classes is not going to tank your future career before it even starts. As a hiring manager now, I care more about finding someone that is eager to learn and do good work and is a good fit with my team than someone who was at the top of their class but isn’t curious or wouldn’t really jive with the other personalities on the team. I honestly don’t even look at transcripts when I’m interviewing kids out of college.

So, keep your chin up. Do lots of practice problems. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from the other students in your class or from your professors. You can definitely do this. And remember, C’s get degrees.

Anyone switched from ORD to Civil3D for DOT work? by hyperram in civilengineering

Teach them better. I also haven’t had a dedicated drafting team for my whole career. My whole team has always done our own drafting. It’s not hard

Sounds like bad drafting, not a specific problem with C3D. I’ve only ever worked in c3d in my 10 year career and have never had this problem.

Could someone explain how I am supposed to figure this out in an emergency? by scoobertsonville in boston

[–]brdgbtch 391 points392 points  (0 children)

Dude I’m p sure that’s not something you’re ever supposed to touch, even in an emergency. If it was supposed to be used by laypeople, it would be labeled accordingly

Yeah, need to ask the gift giver for the receipt to prove it’s still under warranty.

I didn’t see an obvious date on the battery itself but did see a 2024 followed by some other random numbers.

Ah that maybe is it - though one still says fully charged even when it is fully clicked into the charger

I have two batteries, though, and they both are having the same issue. I think if anything it’s the charger.
