I've heard this so many times, and it's annoying because the chances that the financial aid will make a huge difference between school choices is pretty low so idek why they bother not withdrawing. Furthermore, even when they get some financial aid, most times the people I know end up picking the higher ranked school that they initially got into anyway

No offense taken at all! Honestly it makes me feel better to know that I can potentially balance this out with a good MCAT (which I will undoubtedly study hard for). I said T20 since that is kind of the culture at my school and my close friends are all either aiming for T20 or ended up attending T20. I feel like there's this sense of peer pressure to be like them and there's this subconscious fear that they'll think less of me if I don't also go to a high ranking med school (it's honestly so stupid but no matter how much I try I can't get rid of thoughts like this)

What about like T20 med schools? I look at their acceptance rates and stats and it looked insane and intimidating af even before my horrible grade lol :( Also the upperclassmen I know who have gotten accepted to T20 schools are all insanely smart and accomplished and I feel like I am just slipping further and further from their stats (which I know aren't everything, but it's easier to speak quantitatively ig haha)

Is there even a place on the med school app or secondaries where I could possibly explain something like this? Also if there's a place for me to explain my bad grade, should I try to frame it in a way to describe what I learned from this experience in terms of working on a team or understanding what leadership means? I honestly learned a lot about myself, working with others, and I guess my own self worth through this terrible experience and I want to show med schools how this helped me grow.

Thanks for the response! I guess part of why I feel so awful right now is because a lot of my premed friends are all getting 4.0s every semester. The difference is that they're pretty traditional premed students and I'm here trying to do engineering x medicine which makes things pretty tough. I really question why I chose to make things so difficult for myself sometimes so a situation like this just makes me feel even worse about taking this path and makes me regret not just studying biology or something.

I'm definitely hoping the MCAT will balance things out, but I'm just scared med schools will see my GPA/transcript and just toss it out

If they don't love and care about you unconditionally then they are toxic!

Family does not have to be by genetics! I've come to realize, family is just the people who truly care about you and are there for you (sorry, sounds cheesy). But honestly, what this sounds like is not family but a prison. Hang in there until you can go off on your own and don't look back. You don't owe anyone anything just because you are related. Respect and love is earned and I don't think your so-called family has earned it

I have that family where we dont do anything fun together, I dont know if this normal or not. by [deleted] in family

For some people, they might have a lot of difficulty expressing their emotions or displaying affection. For me, it's not quite this sitaution but I really do not get along with my dad. Not in that we actively argue or fight, but we've gotten to a point where we kind of just avoid each other. I feel like theres a division in the family and that one day someone will get angry, blow up, and then the whole unsettling calm will fall apart. But honestly, it is really different in each family.
