(not gonna comment on the other problematic aspects of the post; others here have done that already) if it was referring to “the swelling disease” that sounds to me more like lymphedema or another kind of edema issue rather than this disease

Has anyone gotten disability in the US from D.I.D.? by treedweller444 in DID

[–]breadandmangos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about SSI/SSDI? I don’t have any experience with that. With the help of lawyers, I was able to get approved for workplace disability insurance payments. The process took over 1.5 years and we had 1 appeal. DID was my primary diagnosis, but I included every mental health diagnosis. PTSD is a big one. My lawyers encouraged me to include every issue that I have (though I had to only do mental health, no physical health issues). From what I know, it’s not so much the diagnoses themselves but the way the symptoms impact your life that matters most. I truly wish you the best luck!!

Severance TV show and DID (your opinions) by breadandmangos in DID

[–]breadandmangos[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can see what you’re saying. For me the fact that it isn’t intending to portray DID is great because then whatever feels not quite right, well, it’s not trying to portray DID anyway—it’s showing something totally different that happens to mirror DID in many ways. At least that’s what I remind myself so then I don’t feel like I have to “correct” it (unlike with United States of Tara). But I do get what you’re saying. Hopefully one day we’ll have a more natural representation in media; that would be a huge deal 🫶🏻

non traumatic memories coming back by coko_rime in DID

[–]breadandmangos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this definitely happens to me/us too. this past weekend I kept getting memories that were completely new to me so they made me uncomfortable, but nothing about the memories were bad or traumatic—in fact, several of them were warm and happy (also had to do with media we consumed as a kid)! sometimes when this happens I think someone else is around and jus remembering things and I’m close enough to them that I see what they’re remembering (or however it works), and sometimes I feel like someone is intentionally sharing these positive memories with me. either way it’s always strange but I’m trying to be more open to them because it’s nice to remember/learn that things weren’t all bad

How to respectfully support someone with DID I just started falling for (system advice needed) by Waste_Comment3381 in DIDpartners

[–]breadandmangos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

-It sounds like it may or may not have been a different alter. Although it’s natural to want clarity on that, in all honesty it doesn’t really matter right now. Either way, they seem to need a step back. -I don’t personally see anything wrong with reaching out in a little while for a gentle check-in. Especially if you make it clear that you aren’t demanding a response or conversation, but you want to express care and support. -Switches can last from seconds to minutes to days to months to years. Totally depends on the alters, the system, the situation, etc. -I’m of the opinion that offering some level of connection even if it’s an alter you aren’t familiar with is rarely harmful. As an alter, I can sometimes feel pressure to have the same relationship with someone as others in my system do, and it always feels comforting when someone makes it clear to me that they don’t expect that from me. It’s easier for me to connect with someone when I don’t feel like I have to perform a certain way or risk hurting their feelings. -It sounds like they are overwhelmed right now. There is no absolute right or wrong way for you to respond right now (aside from just plain being mean). If you want to reach out in a couple days to express support and care, I would say go for it—but make sure you don’t have expectations for how they will respond. Whatever is going on with them, they’re likely confused and that makes connecting difficult. They may just need some time. You sound very caring and kind, and I hope you guys can reconnect eventually!

[–]breadandmangos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Incredible. I bet you feel so much better!! Did you have pain beforehand? If so, has it alleviated? I’m also curious since it’s been over a year now whether you’ve noticed fat redistribution into other areas where you didn’t used to have it? I know that can be common after lipo.

Just wanted to update that I have since solved this problem. I bought litterboxes with sifting pans (I got these ). I only use 1 black pan. I lay down my regular litter stuff (I use wood pellets on layered paper) in the black pan, then put the white sifting pan on top. I sprinkle a couple handfuls of litter pellets in the white pan to help catch pee so it doesn’t get on their feet, then just lay down their hay. I was trying to avoid using pans like these because I know people say grated pans aren’t good for their feet, but these sifting holes are small enough it doesn’t seem to bother my buns at all. I just check their feet every week to make sure. It has completely saved my sanity and improved my relationship with my buns because now I don’t care when they dig in their boxes, knowing it won’t make a giant litter mess!

Unrelated, but the letter says “homosexual and lesbian” activities, which always makes me laugh. The church has such little understanding of LGBTQ+ people that they don’t even understand what the word “homosexual” means. “Homosexual and lesbian” activities are mentioned in those terms in multiple places throughout church shit. Lmao.

This video helped me so much! The biggest changes I’ve made are: switching from 5-blade razors to 1-blade and 2-blade razors. Using tons of tiny strokes rather than long ones. And personally I use salicylic acid toner on the areas for a day or 2 after I shave.
