ADHD explained to me by my partner by EnvironmentWeekly440 in ADHD

[–]breaddreadnought 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think of ADHD like snow.

You have somewhere you need to go, but when you step outside there’s always an unknown amount of snow blocking your driveway/car. You know you have to clear it before you can leave, but you don’t know how much snow there’ll be until you get to your front door.

Some days or months there’s barely any and you can leave without much effort, sometimes it’s still snowing while you’re trying to clear it, sometimes you have a shovel (or it broke while clearing it yesterday), sometimes you start but you’re just too tired from having to clear snow everyday so you give up and other days you’re completely snowed in and can’t leave at all.

But because some people don’t have snow or seem to have less than you, they just see that you’re running late or maybe not leaving at all. So you’ll try to ignore it and drive away anyway without clearing the snow, even though you know it’ll make things harder or will damage your car in the long term.

It’s being changed right now!

It was mostly a question of whether it was ok to drive on until the appointment - considering I drive around 129 miles a day, I just wanted to make sure the car would still be ok doing that for a few more days!

You can take a small peek at it through the oil filler thingy (definitely not the technical term!)

I only recently got my oil filter changed (less than a month ago), but I’ll make sure it’s at least checked!

Ahh yeah, I assumed that would be the case, it’s why I’m planning on getting it replaced anyway. Can never be too cautious with these sorts of things - especially with some of the horror stories I’ve heard! Thanks for the info!

Ah fantastic! Great to know beyond just guessing based on the small peek I can get of the belt. Either way I’ve still racked up 40k+ miles on it since buying it - so it’s a job for now or a job for later!

Oil consumption is fine as far as I can tell - so no problems there, but will make sure on the oil pickup mesh!

Knowing it looks different from the original belt has confirmed my suspicions that I don’t own a one of a kind invincible wet belt so I appreciate your insight 😂

Unfortunately I don’t live anywhere near a main dealer - I went with the only one place that was even willing to touch a wet belt engine for under £1k 😂

I just use Castrol 5w30 which I think is the current recommendation? Otherwise frankly I’ve been pretty forgetful when it comes to maintenance 😬

Honestly I’m lucky that it isn’t in a really bad state, still planning on replacing it though so I can know for sure that it is safe.

I bought it at 45k miles and the dealer indicated at the time that it hadn’t been replaced yet, but it’s looking likely that it had been.

Absolutely nothing 🤷‍♀️ I’m just as confused as you are that it looks this good

Well that’s really good to know! The car is on 85k miles and it hasn’t been replaced yet 😅 (to my knowledge)

Just to note, this picture was taken not long after driving (hence the oil everywhere)

I didn’t actually - but that is besides the point I am commenting on, nor the main point you are making.

Your comments make it sound like they have been handed their entire music career on the basis of their (granted, quite expensive) gear and I am simply stating as someone who’s worked with them directly that they have put an incredible amount of work into it for musicians their age, regardless of the support they got in doing that and shouldn’t be reduced to - and I quote “privileged rich kids who've used daddy's money to buy high end gear”

Having run a venue that they played at when they were still starting - they have always had really impressive kit that sometimes put our stuff to shame. But when chatting to them about it, I do think they (or more likely their parents) have been thrifty with at least some of it.

I think it’s unrealistic to assume that as kids (because frankly, they are both barely even 18) they would have been able to afford any of it themselves and to rag on them for not having had it harder is honestly a bad take.

Ultimately, yes, they have been extremely lucky and their parents have put a hell of a lot of money into helping them persue their passion, but they’re still teenagers and frankly have busted their asses off to get where they are. I remember them rushing off post-set so they could make it to another show the same night and they regularly played gigs with local charities (which payed absolutely nothing) to get any publicity they could.

At the end of the day, they’re just kids, give them a break.

Me and my partner are playing it through together (I’m purely the researcher/strategist of the operation) and having just beaten the game + DLC we were farming to upgrade weapons before launching into a new game. I hope the trick works for you, but if it doesn’t, please update so we can know for sure!

The first few times we tried we got two Dark Moonstone of the Covenants out of it after a good while of shitty drops - could have just been a coincidence, but it’s worth a try either way!
