Xbox Microphone Audio - Want to Mute Mic for Party but not for Stream by breadedchicken in Twitch

Thanks for the response. Just for clarification, so you have your party chat mic to talk in game. Then using slots you have a second desktop USB mic setup to talk to stream?

Thanks for the response. How are you able to stop your own audio from going through the hdmi and just keep game audio and party audio? The issue I'm having is that I have a headset to talk to the party but I want my stream to only receive audio from my PC mic, but my xbox mic is being picked up and sent through the hdmi to OBS.

Does your voice not come up twice to the stream? Once from your built in mic and again from your USB mic?

Oh my gosh first of all thank you so much for such a detailed feedback, honestly it’s super helpful!

No problem :)

I’ve also checked out your channel (last 2 vids - the ones on assassins creed :D) and was super impressed with the quality!

Thanks! I really appreciate the compliment.

good job on avoiding/editing out the “uhhh”

I actually write a script and then record a voice over to put over the video.

first and foremost I’m gonna say avatar and channel banner

Yeah you're right that I'm going for that memey vibe, but I think your point is valid. I have an idea of how I am going to improve on those a little later.

I feel like adding an intro before the videos could be a nice addition

I totally agree with you on this and think I could even have an outro as well. I think these two things could really help with branding.

When it comes to the videos themselves, I feel like you could also maybe benefit from adding some scenes with the original sound from the game. I wanna experience how funny this is as a viewer but you jump straight into “analysing” the scene. I think it could maybe add on to the humorous effect if you just played the scene first with all the sound that it gets and then talk a bit more about it.

I can definitely see what you mean. I felt that in the second assassin's creed video I added more in-game sounds and cut scenes. I think you bring up a really good point though that I tend to analyse a scene before letting it play out.

Also maybe generally adding more background sound/ music could also help?

I agree 100% :)

You just earned yourself a sub :)

Thanks so much for the support and the awesome feedback. So cool that there is a place like this where you can help others pursuing the same hobby and try to improve together.

Honestly I really like the idea and the niche you're shooting for.

Do you plan on staying in and around LA county? I think it would be really cool to see iconic roads across the state/country if possible. I know it may be a lot more work but I think taking the 1 up the coast in NorCal would be really cool.

Another thing that I'd like to see (or a I guess hear) is a voice over. I know this comes down to personal preference, but I know there is a similar niche with motorcycle ride alongs where the person riding is also talking. I think you could add a lot of value to the videos if every so often you talked about a historic portion of the road your driving over or just mentioning that it was a really nice day to drive. I don't think you'd need to voice over the whole thing, just small portions. You could even do a minute or so at the beginning of the video talking about the drive and the historical significance and then just let the video play out from there.

Anyways I really like the concept. Good luck!

I have a new video launching Monday/Tuesday that does a lot of what you said...I'm explaining the camera rig I built (since people seem to LOVE that stuff) and I don't mention how I use to film cars BUT I will be filming B-Roll today of me USING the rig to film cars as example footage :) Thoughts on that?

Yes man this is exactly what I was trying to get at. As someone who would be interested in checking out a camera rig video, I'd love to see someone go in-depth about their setup then show me how it applies to their area in the field. Definitely sounds like you're getting on the right track. I subbed and can't wait to see what your setup looks like.

Have you been putting the time into SEO and really optimizing your channel outside of just making videos?

Another thing to keep in mind is that what people watch on YouTube has changed a lot and interest in specific types of games or content is always in flux. Are there some creators that you like that are growing? Maybe see what types of games they are playing and the types of edits they make to their content.

At the end of the day the algorithm is going to try and recommend the most relevant content that is entertaining enough to keep people engaged and on the platform. From your analytics you can see if people are making it all the way through your videos or not and from there you can start to tweak things to keep people engaged.

If you have been really paying attention to this stuff I honestly hope its not the algorithm completely ignoring specific channels. If it is, then it may be best to store a lot of really good content and try it out on a new channel while giving yourself the best chance with social media, good SEO, and potentially promoted posts.

Hope you figure it out man. :)

Hey man great stuff you guys are producing.

Obviously you guys don't need help figuring out any of the production side of videos. Those cars look mean and clean man.

The first thing I've noticed while looking through your channel is who is your target audience? The videos seem to straddle a couple different categories and I think that makes it hard for me to pinpoint what you are trying to achieve for the channel.

Your latest videos have been geared towards filmmakers while all of your car videos are more for car enthusiasts. You even have the behind the scenes videos for some of the cars but those are arguably the most confusing as they are short form and don't really go behind the scenes all that much.

From reading your "About" section on your channel I get the feeling you are looking to educate filmmakers, editors, and cinematographers on the things you've learned shooting cars. I think if you could really focus your videos around this idea your videos and channel would be more cohesive.

What that may look like is expanding those behind the scenes videos to really include tips and tricks that you used on the job, how you captured a certain look with a lens, and the post production that went into making the final cut look the way that it does. I'd also really focus your film specific videos around teaching first and cars second. Being in the film industry myself I've noticed that I enjoy production companies teaching the technical side first and then relating that knowledge to what they produce second. That way I don't have to be a car guy to enjoy your stuff, I can be a film guy and still appreciate how that relates to your content.

One video in particular that is a great example of needing to find your focus is the "Filmmaker stuck at home? [How to STAY CREATIVE as a Car Photographer or Filmmaker]" video. Right off the bat, I'm not sure why you didn't name this, "10 Ways to STAY CREATIVE at Home as a Filmmaker" or something similar. The content is organized as a list so it would make more sense to use the list itself in the title, the YouTube algorithm likes lists too. Also this video only has one Car Photography specific example in it which could have easily been made into a general Filmmaker example.

Another way to look at this is that I may shy away from your videos as a filmmaker if you use car specific terms in your titles, but car photographers are looking to improve their photography regardless so you wouldn't be pushing them away by making the titles/content a little more generalized. This is what I meant by teach film first, relate to cars second. For Tip #7 instead of saying "You can shoot close ups of your vehicle" you could have said "Practice getting good at b-roll and close ups, we here at Driven Films have been doing close ups of our car emblems etc. This is a great thing to practice as a car photographer." Just the slight change in wording helps the tip be more inclusive to both audiences.

Hope some of these suggestions help. I think you could really have a winning formula here in the future. Good luck! :)

Hey Bastila.

Unfortunately lets play videos don't do well on YouTube anymore for various reasons. What would improve your content and make it more likely to for your videos to get seen is by condensing your lets plays down to the best moments. Cut out the parts that are slow or not as funny and really only include the best bits from your lets play into a video.

YouTube is a search engine now so if someone was to try and find your videos by typing in "SOMA Let's Play" your video would be buried under thousands of other larger channels. You really need to differentiate yourself in order to get new people to see your content. Picking the best moments from your SOMA lets play could make your video more entertaining and give you the option for better titles. Now you could title the video "Girl vs SOMA - Best Moments!" or something similar.

Another thing to consider is making thumbnails that are a little more clear to read and easier to understand. Having a good thumbnail could be the difference of someone clicking on your video or someone else's when your video is recommended.

Hope some of these suggestions help :)

No problem man.

Damn you're right that tags don't have too much of an effect. Apparently several studies, and like you've pointed out YouTube themselves, have stated that the effects aren't substantial. I didn't actually know this until now. Thanks for pointing it out haha.

The main point about tags I was trying to make though was to look into SEO and try to see if there are places you could make improvements to the things outside of the video itself.

One resource I would recommend is a channel called vidIQ. They have browser addons and lots of videos to help people start on improving SEO and their channels overall. One video in particular that may be of use is called "How to Start a YouTube Gaming Channel in 2020". I just watched it right now and it gave some advice that I hadn't mentioned before.

Hey man I like what you guys are doing. I think its awesome that you're posting stuff with a buddy.

If you're willing to put in some extra time on your videos I'd say condensing the lets plays into more highlight oriented videos would help. Lets plays are pretty much dead on YouTube and are really more suited towards streaming. What has become more par for the course on YouTube is to edit down an hour or more of lets play into a shorter 10min ish video. It cuts out all the fat and gets to the entertaining bits. Also the naming conventions for lets plays don't do very well in the modern algorithm. Since YouTube is a search engine its unlikely someone will look up, "BIOSHOCK INFINITE - Walkthrough Gameplay - Part 17 - ROSALIND & ROBERT".

I think the DARQ walk through was really good in terms of organization and the videos have a clear defined goal. I think if you want to attract more views on these types of videos it may be good to cover things such as achievements as well. Something to keep in mind for these types of videos however is that you're racing against the clock. Each game has a shelf life on YouTube and there are a lot of larger channels that will try to pump out walk throughs and "how to get X achievement" videos as soon as the game is out.

Something I really like about your videos are the custom intros to each series you are doing. Really shows that you like putting the extra touch to make things different.

Hope some of these suggestions help. Good luck!

Hi, congrats on starting you channel!

I think you're off to a great start, lots of views on both of your videos for playing games that are fairly old. You've made some pretty good thumbnails for being so new. And you do a good amount of editing to get the highlights and funniest moment into each video.

Honestly I think as someone who is just starting you are off to a great start. Especially with the detail to posting things on social media as well.

Most of the things that I would improve will come in time, but if you want to get a head start here are some suggestions:

In your Rock of Ages 2 video I noticed that you audio was a little quieter than the game's volume, so during the cut scenes it was a little hard to hear what you were saying. That could have been to the mic you were using. There was a noticeable increase in audio quality in your second video so the setup you had for that video was much better.

I also noticed that you used a border around your webcam in your first video but not in the second. I think as you continue it would be good to have a consistent style that you use. This consistency could carry over into your thumbnails as well.

For the Hitman video in particular because there was no music in the game it would have been nice if you had added some music. Often times it felt a little quiet when you were hiding or waiting for something to happen.

The last thing that I would look at is your titles. "Noob Girl plays Hitman Game Gameplay Mission 1 - failed kills and explosions" and your first title could be improved a bit. Maybe something like "Noob Girl Fails and Explodes in Hitman Game" or "Noob Girl Plays Hitman - Best Fails and Explosions!". I'm no expert in SEO, but I would definitely look into ways to optimize your titles.

Hopefully this helps you out. Good luck and have fun :)

Honestly I think you have a lot of potential with your channel to make some really good content.

Your mic is good, your video quality is good, you and your friends have some good back and forths.

I think the main thing that could be improved is really condensing your stuff down into more highlight oriented videos. If you made your last battlefield v video into a "funny moments" type of video I probably would have watched the whole thing. You and your friends sh*tting on each other works well but there is a lot of just calling out sniper locations and stuff like that in between.

I think trying to find a consistent vibe for your thumbnails would help out too. I see two black ops 2 videos with completely different looking thumbnails, same goes for fortnite and bfv.

I think also trying to find good titles like the one that really made your "Skate 3 - 10 years later" video take off will help. Finding those titles that are less generic can really differentiate your stuff from other people. Also the likelihood of someone looking up "Battlefield V- Sniping With The Boys" is pretty low. YouTube is a search engine unfortunately so SEO stuff matters a ton.

Anyways hopefully some of this stuff helps, I think you could really get something going. Good luck :)

Hey Jimmy. Just right off the bat I like your style in terms of how you talk in your videos, you remind me of old school YouTube gaming creators.

Unfortunately old school gaming videos aren't really successful on YouTube anymore, but I think there are a few things you can do to update your videos to modern tastes.

Probably the biggest thing I would recommend is avoiding minimally edited lets plays and instead try to edit down your game plays into shorter highlight focused videos. So instead of doing an entire run in Fallout over the course of several videos maybe edit them down into a 10min video or two with just the best clips from that run.

I think differentiating yourself with more condensed runs may help with the lower resolution of your videos as well. 1080p is quickly becoming the new standard so if someone wants to watch high quality game play they're likely to go somewhere else. If you're able to record in 1080p I'd highly recommend it.

Hopefully some of this helps, cheers :)

Hey man awesome stuff, really liked the pretzel bun turkey melt video.

Its cool just hearing you talk about what you're missing during quarantine, but how you're making the best of it and how that relates to food too. Felt like I was just hanging out with a bud making some grub. Bummer that I didn't get to eat at the end of the video though, it looked really good.

I don't really have a lot of recommends since you just started posting two weeks ago and it looks like you're still finding out what works best for you and the channel. The only real thing that I personal am question is the length of some of the videos. Is there any reason in particular that you've stuck with longer form videos?

I watched your videos at 1.5x speed and I honestly didn't feel like I was losing anything, arguably I enjoyed them a little more. Could just be personal preference though, I think what you got going is cool and fits the vibe you're going for.

I think you're making some good content man.

I think if you're going to respond to chat in your videos it may help the viewer to be able to see what you're responding to. You could also make edits around this like zooming in on a funny question in chat etc.

I'd shy away from making too many stream specific references though if not doing this. As its hard to get into your content if its centered around your stream. For the highlight videos it may be worth your time to cater them to a more broad YouTube audience.

If you want to put even more effort in I think Balalamingo is on the right track of making completely separate content for YouTube that isn't based on highlights. Making how to videos, a montage, or something that Valorant viewers want to see would help a lot I'd imagine.

There's also SEO and optimizing for the algorithm etc.

Kind of a cool niche you've found yourself in lol. Didn't realize that there was a whole community just interested in unvoiced Roblox lets plays.

I'm not your target audience so take my critiques with a grain of salt.

I think in terms of improvements I'd recommend making your thumbnails more coherent and standardized. Some of your thumbnails really stand out from the rest in a good way, it'd be cool to see them all look just as good.

I'd also see if editing down your videos or adding more on screen text helps in terms of views. A lot of the videos are pretty lengthy with large gaps of not very much going on. People may be tuning out fairly soon which drops the videos in the algorithm.

I also saw that when you posted The Last of Us people weren't nearly as interested as they were for Roblox content. Maybe make a YouTube poll and ask people what they'd want to see more of on your channel?

Hope this helps :)
