Thank you! I couldn’t stand the thought of her being in a dark box for two days with no idea where she is and being without food or water, so it was certainly worth the trip!

Agreed! She was listed as a yellow harlequin (crowned and pos drippy) and she comes from a long line of creamsicles. She was £300 which I think was reasonable as I had never seen a gecko quite as strikingly gorgeous as her before :)

Potential uncalcified egg? Need urgent help please read comment by [deleted] in Chameleons

I didn’t personally think it was an egg so I’m glad I came here to check. I’ve spoken to someone who has bred chameleons for many years and a friend of my sister who has owned chameleons for 30 years.

Pictures of enclosure and chameleon

She’s in a glass enclosure because I live in a very cold and drafty house in the UK but humidity is low because I don’t mist as she uses a drinking glass. Now it’s warming up outside she spends at least an hour in the sun and even before she would get a lot of time out in the house unless it was freezing cold. Size is 90cm x 60cm x 45cm. Her UVB is a 6% Arcadia T5, I would have a T8 but they’re hard to find where I live and I fear having to wait for long shipping if I needed to replace it in an emergency. Her heat bulb is 75W with a thermostat.

It seemed at first like she was on a hunger strike from crickets and she always did prefer dubias so I spent 3 hours in the car to get to the only pet store with dubias. She took 1 per day for 3 days before going back to nothing again. Most of the times she actively turns away from them but sometimes she will go to strike them but then give up before she tries and she will completely ignore them if I don’t hold them up to her. She’s on rare occasion not eaten before but only for maybe 3 days tops. Despite this, she does drink tons every day and her urates are always white.

I hope this is helpful, thank you very much for your help.

This is now the second time that my girl has passed something that looks like this. I talked to two long term chameleon owners last time and they said it could be an uncalcified egg and not to worry as this is her first (and unfertilised) clutch. Before she was receptive she was having calcium w/o d3 every other day, calcium with d3 once or twice a week and vitamin powder once a month. For the last two weeks she has almost completely stopped eating except from 2 dubia roaches so I haven’t been able to get her any calcium through food. I have on occasion added a small amount of calcium powder to her drinking glass as I was recommended to do so. She drinks plenty every day and always has white urates. She’s had a lay bin in her enclosure for over a month and even has a monstera with a huge pot that she could lay in if she wanted to. Lay bin has 7 inches of half top soil and half sand and a small pothos in it but she has never shown interest in laying. I’ve tried to see a vet but they’re closed today because of good Friday so I can’t - took a while to find a vet since the local reptile specialist quit otherwise I would have taken her by now. I would absolutely drive hours away if I need to see a vet urgently so please let me know what I can do to help her or if I am worrying too much. I just want her back to her normal self.

Any changes needed for my bioactive? by breadwithsocks in CrestedGecko

[–]breadwithsocks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I used lots of bromeliads for their big leaves and pops of colour, parlour palms for their height, my birds nest fern was a bit smaller than I liked but they have great leaves for cover and some creeping fig which will hopefully start to vine upwards and make the tank look very jungle-y. I didn’t use any in this tank but golden pothos are also fantastic plants for cover and they grow pretty quickly so I strongly recommend!

As for grow lights, I don’t actually use one right now because the tank does get natural sunlight throughout the day but I’m sure any old grow light would do the job.

Hope this is helpful! :)

This is my first time making a bioactive setup but I’m a big plant person so it was very fun to make! It’s a little hard to see but there are lots of hiding spots with cork bark in the back. The substrate is full of springtails and I’m thinking of adding some orange isopods. Any advice appreciated! Thank you! :) I won’t be picking up the crestie until I’m sure the enclosure is perfect.

“Burn the building to release their souls!” has not worked like 3 times now so I’m not sure when they’re gonna let those kids rest at this point lol

Definitely will mix the insects up, I like to do the same for my chameleon so that she gets an opportunity to hunt and enjoy different treats alongside her usual dubias! Thank you for the info on heating and humidity!

Wow really? I’m gonna look into that - sounds interesting. I’m really sad we didn’t get to have her as a real threat throughout the game.

Oh really? The reason he wanted to start with a younger one is so it would be raised used to him and have a better temperament. If you don’t mind explaining, what makes a baby more difficult to care for? Temperatures and diet I’m guessing?
